Also, Anders gains +5 rivalry just for selecting him to go into the fade,

You can take the diplomatic path when you first talk to Justice and negate the +5 Rivalry. No way to get Friendship though. Loaded and tried all options there with a 50~% Friend Anders.

There's actually an assured way that you can not be betrayed by your friends in The Lesser Evil (Sort of). If you take Anders, Isabella, and Aveline, not only is the group makeup perfect for any class you play to complement it, but also having Isabella in the party prevents Aveline from betraying you (so long as you choose Feynriel's Pride as the first door to go through), after that, go through the other door and though the desire demon turns isabella against you with promises of a ship and "fully willing" crew, As long as you respond in the conversation wheel with the sarcastic remark, you will gain friendship points with isabella, rather than rivalry. Oh, and the painfully obvious part about Anders. Be smart. Don't consort with demons, especially with the shade at the beginning of the quest where Anders warns you about him. Just refuse to deal with the demon and get 10 points of friendship with Anders. The alternative is gaining Rivalry with Anders and getting an extra skill/attribute point from the demon's task (I can't remember which it is). But as easy as it is to buy tomes to augment your powers in the same way, you can't "buy" friendship points with your party members.

Anders won't betray you period because in the Fade he's more personality tuned toward Justice, everyone else is likely to betray you in some way. Best thing to do is to level up a good while to a point where you can do good half way on your own and take Anders with you. And boom! No betrayal, and besides I'd go ahead and let one betray you because afterwards can improve rivalry/friendship.

Considering my personal dislike of anders I rival him every time. This provides some rivalvry points lol

Well, i loved Anders in DA:O Awakening. It really bummed me when Anders started flirting with me, being a possible "romance". I am still torn in my opinion of him, because i remember the awesomeness Anders from Awakening, and that deserves respect. But then i look at the Anders now, and he's an entirely different person. :/

The stupid thing is that when you say something bad to your companions in the fade, the rivalry/friendship points gained are balanced by their dialogues in the outside world!

Yes, that is the only way it happens. I just do the fade with just Anders so I don't have to deal with *betrayals* yes a cheat I suppose.

I would dearly have loved some of the demons trying to tempt Anders/Justice. I would have laughed as they all failed. sigh

I really don't get this aversion against companion betrayal. The apology quests provide a good way for F/R points (not to mention a role-playing opportunity).

Yeah I thought it was a cool little addition instead of just saving them again and Isabela's is comic gold.

Was I the only one that disliked Aveline's response if you choose diplomatic options. She sounds almost...templar. I was quite annoyed. She can be quite a pain in the ass at times.

Is it though? The day that Aveline met Hawke was the day she lost the man she loved, and because she was doing a favour to Hawke in helping him with Fenyriel, she had to go back and relive that pain all over again? I think she was saying what she did out of anger and fear at the time, rather than actually meaning what she said about Mages.

As said before, if you parlay at all with the sloth demon, Anders.. or rather justice, will attack you. It's actually how i do it every time to get the extra scene with Anders, who will yell at you about it afterwards.

If you take the deal and let the kid be taken over by the demon, Anders will break all romantic ties, and I believe he may even leave. If you deny the sloth demon in the end, you can tell Anders as much for bonus Friendship.
