Okay I don't know what is going on, but I'm getting very bad fps. I'd say the average is around ten fps. I am over the recommended requirements for the game. Also I have tried lowered all the settings to low and the the resolution to as low as it will go, and that doesn't help at all. I've tried setting the game to running on only one processor like some have said. So has anyone found anything to help with this problem? Thanks!!

Dual core 2.6
4 gigs of ram
nvidia 9800 gt
vista 32bit

Hi Enokiel! I had the exact same problem as yourself and it seems we share a few similarities. The post I made about this issue can be found HERE . but in the effort of saving you time from having to sift through the entire post (i encourage you to go over as it may have something I miss in this response) I will explain the situation i was suffering my setup and the solution i found. I will also explain the basis of how i came to the conclusion of why i suspect the cause issue.

Current computer setup:

CPU: AMD X2 4400+ (939 Pin)
Motherboard: ASUS AN8-Deluxe
Memory: Mushkin 4 x 1 gig DDR 3200
Video: EVGA 9800 GT 512
Harddrive: 2 x 150 gig Western Digital Raid 0\\
Resolution: 1280x1024 (19 inch View Sonic LCD)

History: Orignally I started playing my game on Windows Vista 32 Professional (at the time I only had 3 gig ram). The game was patched with the 1.01a patch. The framerate was generally smooth with "most" of the settings turned up but not maxed AA was @ 4x I beleive. I decided that I wanted to run windows 7 as a format of my pc was long overdue. So I went out and purchased an additiona l 2 x 1 gig set of Mushkin ram and formatted my PC which I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit as I now had 4 gigs of ram. (to which I had a long and obnoxious battle of making my motherboard read the full 4 gigs of ram thank you s/w memory mapping obscure option hidden in bios that has no description nor info on functionality in manual LOL).

With that all said and done the problems started from here.

After installing DA:O on the PC the 1.01B patch came along. Me being OCD in the fact that I like to have all patches and updates applied to my machine to ensure security, stablility, and all fixes are in place I happily downloaded and installed the 1.01B patch after it became available figuring it would do no harm. Little did I know that when I loaded up the game the framerate was just horrid. The impact to my framerate was so bad that I literally had to turn off everything minus the 2x AA (jagged lines make me cry). To which of course make me scratch my head as the game was running fine in Vista 32 bit.

So of course my suspicsion instantly went to Windows 7. Being a new OS and all bugs are not uncommon and I am running fairly older hardware CPU, MB, Nforce 4 which is now leagacy etc. No problem. So to put my theory to the test I shrank some space on my hard drive installed a copy of Windows XP 64 bit and applied all Service packs updated all the drivers Etc etc. and installed DA:O with the 1.01b patch (DLC and a few mods same as original install). Again same loss of frame rate. So after, lurking on the forums for days on end I decided to attempt to run the game vanilla with no patches to see how performance would be impacted.

BOOYA, I boot back into windows 7 do a complete uninstall (I did NOT delete my save games) and reinstalled the game, installed DLC, installed Mods but do NOT upgrade to ANY patch. Load the game max out all settings and sure enough. Games runs smooth as butter. (Minor lag spurts in Denerim as there is much more to render then say a dungeon room with afew NPCs). I was even able to reload my save game with zero problems (some games are not able to load version specific save games).

Tested the above on windows XP 64 bit same results (wanted to be sure). So of course I deleted the XP 64 partition, resized my drive back to normal and have been happily progressing through the game on my first full play through as we speak.

I do not know if this will help you or not. I tried to be as detailed in exactly what I did as possible as someone sent me a private message stating you suffered from the same problems as myself so I wanted to reply to see if I could help you out as well. I hope it reads quite clearly and apologize for any grammatical or spelling mistakes that may exsist.

On a side note: Please make a list of ANY 3rd party mods you have installed (Example:Party camp Chest storage mod). I strongly feel that failure to reload any mod you had installed on the orignal install including all of your DLC content on the fresh install and then trying to reload a save game will result in a game crash and possible corruption of said save game. While I have no proof to back this claim up. Common sense dictates that when you change a variable it is unreasonable to expect the same result as the original variables. So minus the game version update please replicate all the DLC and mods you have currently installed on the new install should you decide to try my suggestion above.

Let me know if you have any questions I will answer as best as I can, and good luck to you!

(Sorry for the double post) But on a side note there is yet another person who posted in this thread who also has a EVGA 9800 GT. But other hardware specs differ yet again. I wonder if something in the patch is impacting our EVGA 9800 GT 512 cards. That is the only common theme I see in this problem thus far. Can Anyone else who reads this thread that has a EVGA 9800 GT 512 card please let us know if you are experiencing these problems, what version of the game are you running? 1.00, 1.01A, 1.01B. Etc. Thanks

I'm having the same problem. The Denerim market place is always a problem. I also went through the final battle last night and it was a virtual slide show. Other times the FPS is OK, though. I also have tried adjusting the detail levels to no avail. Here's my spec...

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+
4 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280
Realtek High Definition Audio
Microsoft Windows 7 x64 Professional
1680x1050 (though I've tried various other resolutions as well)

Installed from CE DVD, but even tried using a no-DVD crack, as copy protection is known to sometimes degrade performance.
