My personal take on this is a bit of a middle road, I think. I like the relationship aspect of Dragon Age and DA2 far better than Mass Effect. As others have said, in Mass Effect, there's no real emotional content to the relationships in comparison to Dragon Age. However, in terms of a "Sex Scene", if that's really important to you, I think Mass Effect 1 nailed it. Not overly racy or trashy, just a quick, sweet little culmination to the relationship. The problem is, Bioware got TONS of heat for including it, so we probably won't ever see it done that way again.
I liked the romance with Merill in DA2. I liked that she said she loved Hawke, and not just to Hawke, but to others in the party banter. It was sweet (and Merill is just the cutest character ever). I can agree to some point with people who were disappointed with the lack of nudity, not because I particularly care about the nudity, but because as an M-rated game, there's no reason nudity should be so taboo for this game. However, I really do have to voice the first thought I have every time a topic like this pops up:
Keep complaining about what they DO give us, and eventually it will disappear completely. I'd rather have sweet little romantic subplots with a "fade to black" love scene than no romantic subplots at all. Maybe I'm in the minority, but SOMETHING is better than nothing.
Yeah I agree, in Mass effect it feels like: Well, it's the end of the universe, so lets get dirty, but not now, wait until the last mission and then you'll get lucky. So I like the dragon age format better, but some skin is indeed a nice touch, since you usually work a lot for that
And well, like I said, thanks to the great American public, fox news and the parents, showing off skin in a game is now considered hardcore adult films. Gotta love censorship. That's why I like God of war, they don't care about parents crying. You get dismemberment sex, nudity and swearing.
Not like the PG-13 films, where it's hard to see blood anymore.
Die hard 4 PG 13 = Yippy kay yay mother pow pow pow... yep, they even screwed that.
