"One day the magic will come back. All of it. Everyone will be just like they were. The shadows will part and the skies will open wide. When he rises, everyone will see."
Oh, and he said it in a weird whispering voice. Right after he said it he went back to normal and said "Enchantment!". It wasn't a normal conversation, I just clicked on him.
Bodahn freaked out when he said this in the estate. Sandal is not normal in any way.
Can anyone else make something of this, I don't think it's an easter egg.
Sandal is a prophet?

Gday Widow, i think you read my post in a previous thread, i clearly think that Sandal isnt your run of the mill Dwarf
I find it hard for this not to indicate that he is a mage. Talking about Ghosts could be spirits/demons, he doesnt exactly say much which makes it all the more ambiguous.
But i stand by my other post.
"Does anyone else think that Sandal is a possible halfbreed ? They guy is a dwarf, and when i think about it, when was the last time you saw a perfectly clean shaven dwarf ??? That and over the years that DA:O, and DA2 span, i havent seen a single facial hair even make an attempt to break the surface of his skin on the dwarven fellow. He is clearly not your typical Dwarf !
His parents are unknown, maybe he just has OCD and shaves every few hours, but maybe he has parents that are Dwarf, and Elven (no facial hair here !), which leads him to being "magic sensitive" but perhaps his dwarf side prevents him from being taken in by spirits/demons. It might also explain why he was found in the deep roads "abandoned".
Say for instance his parents are a Dwarf and Elf, given the insanely strict caste`s etc etc, it wouldnt be too hard to believe that a dwarven son would be abandoned because it may "bring the family name down" in Orzammar."
Maybe he is the answer that the Templars and Mages are all looking for in the next part of the story. Maybe he holds the key of being able to control mage powers , without going overboard.

Ktula, I think sandal may be a mage as well. I don't know how that would work, dwarves bot being able to enter the fade and all. Maybe Him spending time near a very concentrated lyrium source could cause it? Templar's gain power by drinking the stuff, why not dwarves?

Yeah im not sure tho, like Dwarf`s whether they live near or trade lyrium, have alot of exposure to it, surely it would have happened before now. I think that could be a reason, i kinda rule it out cause i guess i want something more bizarre. Like what i said above, Sandals parents are unknown, hell flemeth could be his mother for all we know
they have been partiularly quiet in both games about his heritage

I don't think he's a mage (cuz as far as I know dwarves can't be mages), he also does enchanting, which is usually only reserved for the Tranquil, people who have their link to magic completely cut off.
I do believe he's something else entirely though, a hybrid of some sorts is possible, or possibly the link to magic and dwarves, which could prove something interesting for DAIII.
I'm almost positively certain that he is one of the most important characters in the DA world though, especially because it appears Flemeth has an interest in him as well.

This is all very interesting but personally i hope they don't explain Sandal's origin. I'm geussing in DAO they didn't intend for him to be an important character, yet fans loved him so much they brought em back for DA2. He's just one of the great mysteries of Thedas, the only dwarf with magical talent.
With that said though, it's still fun to to speculate on how got so good at enchantments. I'm goin with the theory that he was born in the Deep Roads a long time ago(like a thousand years) and he fell into a lyrium mine where soaked up the stuff and it made him immortal. He's been wondering the Deep Roads on his own up untill he was found by Bodahn.

But what do you all make of his "prophesy"?
It seems kinda apocalyptic with "Him" returning and all the magic will come back. The return of Arlathan? The return of The Maker?
And I still think Flemeth is far more than an old witch who knows a bit of magic.

hidden prophecies, from bioware are always take with a grain of salt. Maybe it means the Thaig we found in DA2 was so insanely old, they had access to magic, but thru a strange means. Maybe Sandal has some relationship to that thaig ? who knows its all speculation, but im goin with his line being halfbreed at some stage (recent or past) and having ties to the Idol.

Also at the end of DA2, it doesnt really get explained, but its 1 thing to sell the broken idol to someone, its a whole other thing to enchant it into a sword! All thats said is that the Dwarf wanted a high price or something along those lines, doesnt mean it didnt get worked on after the deeproads expedition, or then enchanted onto a sword.

The Maker. The Elves have their own name for him. As does every other major civilization of Thedas. They're probably all very wrong about who this figure actually is, as one would expect from an institutionalized religion.
Regardless of what you call Him, what will His return will signify? Who knows. The other, much longer thread on this subject has plenty of great speculation though.

Is not the explaination for Sandal's apparent simple-mindedness and ability to enchant that he was exposed to massive amounts of lyrium while wandering the Deep Roads?

i find this topic humorous. i was talking to my friend about sandal yesterday and what could possibly be his story. my personal thought is that he is going to wind up being some sort of embodiment of the maker helping the people in the world overcome demons and other assorted evil. and maybe in one of the next games he'll have a big role in the plot. again, it's all my own thoughts, and not totally concerned if they explore sandal's story, but i like the character as he is and have got many a chuckle from his scenes in the game.
