Took me about half a second to decide on killing him. I generally play my characters like I live my life, and what he did was intolerable in so many ways. Letting him walk away or keeping him with me just weren't options for me.

Which other companions are killable in the game?

Fenris. First play through as a rogue I guess I didn't convince him when I sided with the mages, so he sided against me at the end. One twin fang later he was a spray of guts across the courtyard.

Honestly, with having Anders and Isabela as "friends," who needs enemies? Add to the fact that Ander's act of terrorism didn't make any sense. If he hated the templars so much, why not blow up the Gallows along with Meredith?

I went to the last fight without a #$%^ healer--there was just no other way from an immersion perspective. On my second playthrough I'm mass producing potions and sitting both drama queens out of the line up.

You can still get a healer like Hawke's sister if you play as warrior and rogue and send Hawke sister to grey Warden. She will eventually join you at the final stage. That's the best thing you can get. But TBH, in my first play through as warrior (with 2h + reaver and potion in hard mode) i don't think healer is necessary. Bethnay's healing spell is just for security in case if something went wrong and you really need a quick heal. she is the best choice.

Yeah I killed him. I appreciated the fact that his dealings with Justice/Vengeance made him a different character than he was in Awakenings. He was more serious, and lost his sarcasm. It was weird at first, but after hearing what he'd been through, that character wouldnt have made sense any longer. In my eyes, there was no justifying what he'd done. I thought about bringing him with me so he could set things right, but realistically he just committed an atrocious act, and there was no way he could just make up for that.

This. It's like...

"I know your upset about the turn of events Sebastian but to be fair Ander's is going to heal our butts and all you have is a bow. Sorry mate. You can come back and 'Muhhhrrderrr' me later."

That and Brid the Gentle Rogue had started a relationship with him and it seemed like such a waste.

If you dont do Anders personal quest to gather the items that create the explosion, will the Chantry blow up anyway, or is that quest line there just to give context to that part of the story which will happen no matter what?

Funny Anders> Insane Terrorist Anders.
I'm sorry but he really pissed me off and dragged me into some crappy conflict - I don't like templars and I don't like mages, why can't Hawke kill everyone but Anders can?

I couldn't kill Anders.. because he was the only @#$%ing healer in the game!!!

Way to ruin the dramatic tension of that scene for everyone but PC Mages, Bioware.

I only played on normal, but I was a 2handed warrior and used two tanks, and Varric. It actually worked pretty well.

Btw, even if you killed Anders Bioware will bring him in DA3 because they can bring back to life whomever the hell they want.

Might as well not kill him.

I decided not to kill Anders... it seemed Orsino and Meredith were on two way opposite sides, one was far left, and the other was far right - and while I don't exactly agree with Anders, I can see where he was coming from... going to the Chantry would only delay the coming battle, let things build up more and more... Personally, I wanted to resolve it peacefully, maybe kick Meredith out of her spot... didn't work out too well.

Anders seems like a good person, with a good heart... he's just misled, my only question is - why does "justice" still have control of him, even though I completed the quest where he's supposedly going to kick "justice" out?

Oh come on now! All Anders did was burn down a chantry.
Surely he deserves a stern scolding, but besides that I doubt there is much to fuss over.

All he really did was steal your kill, I mean I bet plenty of you would have burned down that chantry yourselves if you could. Unless you hate mages of course, in which case you're probably delighted to get to butcher them.

As long as Anders lets me to destroy the next chantry we're cool.

Butcher EVERY mage, ohhh yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

To be fair,

Siding with the mages is win, win if you hate both parties. You end up killing everyone anyway.

Uh... hate to break it to you, but there never was a potion... he tells you so if you question him hard enough.  Basically he used you to gather up the ingredients for his massive reaper-bomb.

I killed him. Felt like the only proper thing to do. First, he was annoying as hell. Then he blew up the Chantry. :/

Lucinda (my PC) did not kill Anders because they had a strong friendship, combined with his obvious tumult of emotions. But she was disgusted with him all the same - she'd refused to aid whatever he was wanting to do, since he wouldn't tell her, yet never imagined it was this. For the sake of their friendship, she merely told him to leave. When he showed up to offer his support one more time, she dismissed him again.

IRL? That little ****. Disgusting, wallowing in self-pity and his undoubted martyr complex. At least Loghain didn't act like a wilting, fragile tear of Andraste about what he'd done.
