Anders has become the new Loghain, apparently.
A lot of people seem to hate him because he attacked the Chantry, but it's the same institution that has enslaved his people for a thousand years. Should Anders have done nothing in the face of mage oppression? Should he have allowed the slavery of his people to continue for another thousand years when no one else was willing to do anything to challenge the authority of the Chantry and it's iron grip on the mages?
It's true that people died, but those same people were members of an organization that was involved in slavery. The slavery of mages across Thedas in all fourteen Circles of Magi. Should Anders have allowed the Chantry to continue enslaving his people, when the horrors of Karl (his first love) begging him to die, or the mages who were getting raped, tortured, and killed were still prevelant in the Chantry controlled Circles?
Andraste didn't write a strongly worded letter to end the slavery committed by the Tevinter Imperium, she waged war for the freedom of her people. All Anders wants to do is accomplish the same thing - see his people freed from the bonds of slavery, so they can have the opportunity to live free.
When it comes to a choice between doing nothing and allowing slavery to flourish, or stopping slavery by any means necessary, I can understand Anders choice. When given a chance between subjugation and freedom, I would take freedom. After all, it's better to die on your feet than live on your knees.
