If you choose the blood mage spec, does anyone call you on it? Or is it like in DA:O?

I've been wondering this myself.
My mage didn't go blood because I wanted him to be an example but since there are like only 2 mages in the game who don't use blood magic and one of them is an abomination there don't seem to be much point.

Same, but I just curious, some of spells looks cool but if it'll be a problem I wont. cant seem to find an answer.
Also was trying to find the move that is used in the prologue when hawke rips the ogre apart or is that not a real spell?

I sometimes see something similar when I have a mage in the party, but since I don't have any spells that might have caused it (I think) I guess it's a mage's critical hit

It looks like a channeled version of virulent bomb or what's it's name.
That DoT from spirit tree that does AoE dmg when it explodes.

There's never any mention of Hawke being a blood mage... as far as I know, you can't even say "but I'm a blood mage!" at any point... disappointing.
Edit: The blood mage spec, however, is a lot of fun... it just has no impact on the story.

Being a mage itself has little impact on the story. Heck, even two minutes into the game meeting Wesley the Templar...even he doesn't seem to realize you're a mage, just your sister.

No, just like in Dragon Age Origins, they did not want to punish the player for choosing a game mechanic. Originally in Dragon Age Origins Wynne DID call you on your blood magic use, however due to the possibility of breaking the game (depending on what you say, you could end up with both Irving and Gregaoir dead, leaving you with no ally and the game becomes broken) and the above idea, the scene was removed. If you look it up on you tube, you can find videos of the scene(s) restored.

it would be interesting to have some blood mage options in dialogs. like, you know, "these aren't the droids you're looking for"... alas
