Varric is probably the best written companion in any Bioware game I know. So no, he's not the Garrus of Dragon Age. If Garrus is lucky he can one day be the Varric of Mass Effect.
I like this human. He understands.
Women fans will be naming their firstborn sons Varric just like that couple who named their daughter Leliana a while back.

Ouch, that hurts.
I'm a Mass Effect fanboy so i'm with Garrus but i wouldn't mind seeing both em go toe-to-toe. Varric and Bicanca vs Garrus and his M-97 Viper sniper rifle.

And Garrus is cool too but not better than Varric.

He is an equal, but given that Garrus has been in our consciousness for so long, it may take a while for Varric to truly make his place as one of BioWare's best characters.

I never liked Garrus much. I mean he was ok, but not really awesome or anything. And he kept doing his calibrations instead of talking to me. Varric is more like a type that you want for a friend.Icy Magebane wrote...
Varric was cool, but come on... this is Garrus you're comparing him to. Not even close. That said, Varric is the one companion that I never had any problem with. Everyone else annoyed me to varying degrees.

Nobody.

chased a mouse onto a ship and ended up in Kirkwall. It was the weirdest
thing.

My memory may be long but my wrath isn't too terrible. It's like a kitten unleashed from the vet after being dosed with anesthetics.

However, this is the Bioware forums I should not be surprised.
I'll reserve judgement on Varric=DA version of Garrus when I've finished playing.
