I have a sneaky suspicion it may be the graphics card unable to keep up but I wanted to double check with people that know!

 I'm running:

Steam version of game on:

 AMD Phenom™ II X4 955 Processor
 ATI Radeon HD 3300 Graphics
 4GB RAM

with

 Windows 7 Home edition

I've tried the new drivers for the graphics but I still crash after i've killed two or three bad guys right at the first scene...

Wait for a patch or get a new graphics card? :)

It's definitely the graphics card. You don't meet the system requirements. The processor is good so upgrading to a better graphics card would make that PC a good gaming machine. Make sure you have a power supply that can support a better graphics card, otherwise you'll have to upgrade that as well.

I have a very similar problem.
the game crashes to desktop in DX 11 after a very short playtime. There are no issues in dx 9 but the game doesn't look as good.

My config:
Intel core i7 2600 (3,4 Ghz)
Nvidia Geforce GTX 570
8GB RAM
Creative X-fi extreme music.
Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1

I have tried installing 267.24, 267.32 and 267.46 drivers but they help only slightly, the game still crashes below 5 minutes of playtime. (driver stopped responding - error)
I have tried virtually every advice posted on these forums, I have been plying with game and driver settings without any luck.
I have already tried disabling every option possible in dx 11 renderer, I have even tried running low settings in dx 11 mode, the game still crashes.

And no, this is not my hardware, the graphics card is brand new, I have bought it specifically to play dragon age 2 the way it is meant to be played
I have been playing battlefield, metro 2033 and crysis without any issues what so ever. I don't have any other issues with the game in dx 11, the game does not lag or stutter, it only crashes to desktop after a short period of gameplay time.
In high settings it takes somewhat longer for the game to crash but still.

I have also tried installing 267.26 driver but the crashing still persists.

DEVS: please let us know when you will release a patch for the game to fix crashing with dx 11 renderer.

I think we must put most of the blame on nVIDIA, actually.

I am not so sure about that, I tried lunching dx 11 rendeder with the low setting which still crashed, and I don't suppose low setting uses tesselation or any dx 10/11 specific features. Hell I even tried to disable the game's sound system just to make sure it is not the sound driver which causes the crashes.

all i could find was in the game's log:
DX11SwapChain::Present has failed. Unable to recover, exiting the game.

whatever is causeing the crashes has to have something to do with the renderer itself, all I would like from developers is to give us some assurance that this bug will also be fixed for Nvidia owners.
Hopefully they would give us an estimation how long would it take for them to issue a high priority fix for this one.

We're working with Nvidia and ATI to resolve many of the DX11 issues.

My crashes have been solved by downclocking my Gigabyte GTX570 OC down to the values recommended by Nvidia. It seems gigabyte has "overdone" this card, they probably have too low voltage on the GPU core.

For anyone having problems with crashes on the factory overclocked cards, try downclocking core and shader frequencies with Msi Afterburner:

stock values for Nvidia GPU's can be found here:

DEVS:

Those crashes occur only in Dragon age 2, I did not have any crashes in other very demanding games and burn-in benchmarks. I know it probably is Gigabyte's fault that they undervoltaged the card too much when they produced the card, but maybe you could go around this problem and somehow fix it for all users with overclocked geforce cards so that their game would be more stable.
