Then they should give the soldier the option specialize on something else instead of just weapons (a system like in Dragon Age 2 for each class. One tree for each weapon - only the soldier can train additional skills for some weapons, but ALL classes can use them).

The soldier would then get a "cybernetics" tree for more stormspeed and melee-damage. Another tree for skin-weave and adamant-bones (increasing health and health reg) and a tree for ocular-synaptic processors and adrenaline rush.

The other classes get less weapon trees and instead of the soldier-specific ones, they get offensive/defensive biotics, tech-trees etc.

I've thought about this to and understand why BW changed the weapon load out system but it could have done simpler , the same mechanics from ME1 could have been used let every class be able to choose all weapons but only proficient in two of those weapons, except for soldier who be proficient all weapons , once you reach the collector ship you can choose a third weapon to be proficient in , with the soldier begin able to pick from Rev, Widow , Claymore or have the ability to charge his CS with ammo powers

I'm going to go slightly off topic here, but it ties in, in a way so bear with me...

What happens when you rapidly heat something then rapidly freeze it? It shatters! Why did they not give this combo to Engineers? Adepts get Warp bomb and pull throw combo's, but what combo's do Tech specialists get?

Thanks guys for adding to this discussion, its really nice to see people throwing ideas back and forth. We're never going to agree on everything, but it doesn't hurt at all to talk about the pro's and cons of ideas. As I said one of the dev's might pop along and read one of them and run with it and turn it into something truly awesome. (Hey, stranger things have happened, right?)

*Edit, 'cause I can. :P 458 views so far, granted that means a hell of a lot of people have looked in and said 'Meh, not interested', but for my first thread on here thats not bad!*

A simple slot system would be best IMHO.

Heavy Weapons - exclusive to Soldier class

Advanced Weapons (Revenant*, Claymore**, Widow***) - take up 2 slots
* Soldier only
** Soldier, Vanguard only
*** Soldier, Infiltrator only

Standard Weapons (all other ARs, SGs and SRs) - take up 1 slot

All classes get one of SMG/Pistol (up to the player) for free.

Soldier - 4 slots + heavy weapons + SMG/Pistol

Vanguard, Infiltrator - 3 slots + SMG/Pistol

Sentinel, Adept, Engineer - 2 slots + SMG/Pistol

Simple, yet much better than ME2's system. Adding more weapons wouldn't make the game easier, but more fun.

Having added all the weapons to my adept via modding, I have to disagree. I tended to just use one weapon, favoring the use of biotics 99% of the time.

Not that I would mind the abillity to choose, though. I'd probably just run with a single weapon. Most likely an SMG or AR.

You used only one weapon, and somehow having all others made the game easier for you?
That does not make sense.

I've given this idea some thought, and I like it for the most part, but the only thing that bugs me is the Heavy Weapons. I've played the Soldier the most out of the ME2 classes, and I can go without the Heavy Weapons entirely.

So with SMG's and Pistols both available, I'd definitely go with one of the SMG's over any pistol, as such I'd rather have Heavy Weapons added to Standard Weapons (only so that they take one slot), than to have to lug one around again.

Hehe, I was just thinking about my preferred loadout, I'd likely be rolling with the Claymore, Widow and an SMG.
I'd be the ultimate badass!

Nah, sorry for the confusion. I was replying to the "more fun" part of your post. I had all the weapons at my disposall but it didn't really equate to more fun as I really didn't use them.

Sticky on the General Discussion Forum.  I'll try to find you a good link and edit it into this post.

*Edit* The Mod Javier has a link in his sig. Oh and Weapon Mods make a triumphant return in a new form that I think you'll like. (Link works with IE but not Google Chrome or a few others).

Wow, that sounds great so far :-)

I hope I can create something like a Biotic Infiltrator in ME3.

Claymore/Mattock/Tempest Vanguard. My Dream Loadout. :o

Widow/GPS/Locust Infiltrator. My Other Dream Loadout. :o

Mattock/GPS/Locust Engineer. My Third Dream Loadout. :o

Suddenly there are so many possibilities! And yet things still remain balanced.

I especially like the "Heavy Weapons - Soldier Only" part, as I'm a Vanguard/Infiltrator/Engineer who never uses Heavy Weapons.

You know another great advantage of having only 3 weapons? You can switch to any weapon at any time with the press of a key with a "switch to next weapon" key and a "switch to previous weapon" key. With anything more than 3 weapons, you need to pause the game.

A possible problem with this is that perhaps no one will use Heavy Pistols any more. I at least choose the Heavy Pistols in ME2 based on their appearances in cutscenes.

Balanced, Mattock and GPS don't fit into the same post... ;)

Or the moron who forgot to program some hotkeys could just remember to do it in ME3. But you are right, 3 weapons is the way to go in ME2, I never have more than 3 weapons with any of the 6 classes. I usually remove something if I have more (Heavy Pistol on the Soldier for example) and don't use Heavy Weapons anyway.

Indeed, don't be too surprised if the Mattock doesn't make it into ME:3 or if it does it will be vastly toned down. That weapon was never made to be a balanced weapon. Its massively overpowered.

Well, what I meant is since every class can use them (Mattock & GPS), the classes are balanced (no class is significantly overpowered weapon-wise). As it is, Soldiers can have Widow+Mattock+GPS, while Engineer/Adept/Sentinel can only have one of Mattock of GPS.

In Kronner's model, the caster classes can have Mattcok AND GPS, dramatically improving their firepower, hence it is more "balanced".

Even if the Mattock/GPS don't make it into ME3, the weapon slot system will be more "balanced" as the less weapon-oriented classes will still have access to more decent weapons than before
