To all the comments about retcons, do we even know how many were retcons and how many were incorrectly set save flags?

Thats the question isn't it, for most anyhow. David Gaider (kinda) said that in the case of one cameo (Nightengale) that whether they are dead or not doesn't count, they -will- be back and around in DA2 (and probably 3)

*chuckle*

Oh well with that one we need a category that is for "damned inexcusable" the epilouges can be 'forgiven' as they happened off screen, (frankly I'd be willing to believe if you handed Anders over to the templars he simply escaped again, or managed to not die in a non upgraded vigils keep and again used it as a way to escape)

At the very least try to lampshade Lelianna making her perform something along the lines of "I can't believe we're looking for that bastard after he stabbed me in the chest and left me to die" then you only have the complaints of people who had the head cutting off animation.

Come now guys, this isn't a comic book, you've got to at least make bad attempts to explain things away....

I know I know, a wizard did it.

Am I the only person that actually thinks the conversation wheel is perfect now that it has the "intent icons"? I barely read the options at all anymore. All I need to know is that the option I intend to use is sarcastic, or that if I choose this option I will be initiating an assault or starting a romance. The only time I really needed to worry about reading the choices was when the options were mutually exclusive.

This is the very reason why I disliked the conversation wheel. With the tone icons, I felt completely pigeon holed into choosing the same dialogue option every time. If I'm RPing a character their gonna react differently to different situations, and therefore I'd choose alternate dialogue options, but because of the stark contrast between each tone, my Hawke just sounded awkward and completely OOC at times.

Gotta admit....DA2 grew on me more and more as I played. I pretty much think the original post was spot on.

The biggest advantage Origins had for me were the companions. With the exception of Isabela, who was very strong IMO, I found your comrades in Origins to be much more interesting.

Yeah I updated the needs tweaking section to mention the lack of development between companions etc.

Actually I chose difefrent options all the time based on the situation.

A good post, but seriously, add some bullet points or something. Presentation and format count. Nice use of colours though.

I may be wrong but I believe the waves of enemys are there to let you really use  your skills.

As for the recycled enviorments...To be honest I never paid attention during my first play through and don't too much care now.
I wouldn't expect the team to break their necks making a new enviorment for every scenerio.

All comments suggesting or implying that Merrill was not the greatest companion ever are invalid by the way.

WRONG

-Removing isometric camera from PC users. I play Dragon Age on PS3 but it's not right to screw with your most loyal fanbase. Shame on you!

-Waves of enemies and monsters appearing from thin air.

-Dialogue wheel

The conversation lottery. I wasn't roleplaying my character and most of the time I didnt know what Hawke was even going to say. This was one of the things that killed the game for me. Press "x" to have sex with this woman? Really Bioware really? This is what you have sunk into.

-Lack of choices

There are none. The ending is the same regardless of how you play the game. Unacceptable from Bioware but others seem to like it.

-Less customization

Isabela fighting against a high-dragon in a prostitute uniform. Ok, dont fix it if it isn't broken. Revert back Origins.

Bring back :

Stealing
Alchemy
Poison making
Traps
Harvesting resources and picking up flowers

-Make the world more open AND STOP RECYCLING THE SAME MAPS. How many times do I have to complete some pointless coin quest in Wounded Coast?

-Remove voice acting from the main character and give us the ability to play a dwarf or an elf again.

Those are my main gripes.

Let me start out by saying that Bioware has earned my respect with both Mass Effects and DAO. WIth that out of the way, I must say that, on the whole, I was generally disappointed with the finished product of DA2.

I sort of feel like I was misled by Bioware regarding this game. I was led to believe that while the world was on the brink of war, it was ultimately our choices, as the Champion, that led us there. When in reality, Choice had nothing to do with the Linear path the game pushed me to.  A lot of talk about Anders and Isabela and I don't disagree. On my first playthough, I went with Anders on his quest to "sneak" into the gallows and uncover the grand "Tranquil Solution", when Anders threatened the Mage girl we saved, I scolded him and told him that I didn't want to have anything to do with him. But instead of turning him over to the templars/chantry, which should have been the outcome, Hawke has the choice to have Anders "leave" the party but continue being a threat to Kirkwall's people.

It was basically: Lose an Ally and the best healer in the game because you make what really equates to a meaningless "choice" in hindsight.

It was the same thing with Isabela, Lose an Ally in the game because you make, at that point, a meaningless choice...

When I play this game, I don't feel like a Great Champion/protector of Kirkwall. I feel like the NPC's generally drive every aspect of this game and it takes away from the importance that your character should feel as the PC.

The ending was particularly disappointing from the standpoint of choice, Whoever you side with, the sequence is exactly the same. When I began a second playthrough, I really started to feel like there wasn't much point because Kirkwall was "doomed" before you're ship even came into dock from Gwaren, and it feels hollow when you stand before the Arishok and he asks why you stay here and you respond with the line "I hope to make it better"

The framed narrative still felt like a film vs. the "interactive experience" we were supposed to be getting, Your choices all led to the same conculsions, it just were you a jerk or nice guy/gal.

Companion armor: The upgrades were great, however removing the ability for companions to equip armor was a HUGE no no! You did this with ME2 and saw our anger, not sure why you decided to do it here. Go back to the original DA:O method so all that extra armor we find is useful for more then just vender trash. I did not notice many NPC's etc. with different body sizes to justify this change. In fact, I cannot think of any companions that had different bodies from their related NPC's except Isabella and perhaps Carver.

I don't even think they were super commited to not being able to change armor, considering how much gear you find in the game specifically says "Hawk only" or to that effect. It makes it seem like either it took them awhile to finally decide to go with it or it was a time saver so the didnt have to "fit" the armor to everyone.

Let's be honest, Folks are usually going wear same 3 armor "Sets", you get in each chapter, rest of armor just junk to sell off, your not going use it.  I have come across so much armor, that it's retarded.  At least with weapons you can use them on your buds.

Another thing, I am sorry for Rogues stuck with Daggers(Short Swords, those too damn big for a dagger). I miss my Maces & Hand Axes.

As for how things ended & certain elements in the game, I keep telling folks. Just you wait & see, this just 70 dollar game(if you didn't get Sig & got Vael later on). That nothing more then a Platform for 7-12 dollar DLCs to cover all holes in the game.

Sebastian was a good example, you play game without him, some things don't make sense, you have him in the game, stuff starts to connect the dots, which proves he was originally suppose to be in, but taken out to make more money.

All valid points JJDrakken. However I think micro managing should be there for those who wish to do so.

I agree with... almost everything you said. Except for the stuff about crafting, and the prices at vendors. The ridiculously expensive stuff can seriously overpower your character, so I don't think it's so terrible that you can only afford a couple of those items.

Same here. My current character can be a goodie goodie, or a smart ass,
or a bully whenever I see fit to the situation. The intent icon doesn't
do anything to me except show the intent the line is meant to have. I
did play the first two characters as only one way kind of characters but
that's the boring way to play.

Pick according to the situations
and the story rationalities in your head. There's no Paragon/Renegade
meter and your companions will still hang around if they're a rival. Be
the Hawke you want to be.

I just wanted to add that I was disappointed with the way classes were handled. There wasn't much variety. I mean, tanks are the only people who use swords? Really? No one uses swords as offensive weapons? Why a rogue was limited to just dagger was really not called for. I understand that they were trying to make it so that rogues didn't have to invest in STR in order to use gear, but not being able to use swords at all was crazy. Same with dual wielding warriors.

Also, I miss the ability to have another weapon equipped and being able to switch between the two. There were times when I wanted to use a bow in situations where being in too close would spell doom (hello, Mr. Dragon). In the first game I would switch pretty often, but with no way to switch, all bows went to the vendor and it just felt like such a waste.

As for everything else, I think the OP covered a lot of points, though I wasn't too happy with not being able to just sit down and chat with companions whenever I wanted to. That was one of the things I really enjoyed in the first game. It allowed me to really connect with them.

Something I liked was that the Friend/Rival bar didn't go down once you maxed it out. It allowed me to have a lot more freedom in what I was doing and saying without constantly worrying about whether or not my "friend" was going to like it.

Considering the massive plotholes and retcons during the game I wasnt overly impressed with these 2:

Cameos from past characters.

Save game import.

My liking of the game took a serious hit everytime I met another dead person.

Oh also an improvement could be made with the amount of weapon types. Bring back crossbows and dual wield for warriors? Also, since the staff melee animation is allready in, where's the polearm weapons? A warrior hawke with a glaive would be nice.

This, i want my warrior to swing around a glaive with the same model / animations as my mage does with the staff of Parlathan (you know, with the blade on the end of it :D )

Those moves are so awesome!
