I have an Intel Quad Core PC, running Windows XP (32-bit), with a nVidia GeForce 9800 GT (512MB).

This means by definition I cannot access DirectX 11. I cannot afford to upgrade my system to buy a new graphics card and Windows 7 or Vista. Considering how amazing Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins looks using this same system, I cannot believe I have to settle for "medium" settings.

It looks awful! I can't stand playing the game but I really, really want to. What can I do? Is there going to be a patch which allows us lowly non-DirectX 11 people to be able to have at least hi-res, anti-aliasing (I can't even put anti-aliasing on!)? This really disappoints me considering how amazing everything from Mass Effect to Dragon Age: Origins looks ont this same system.

Please help.

I installed the high res texture pack and played in DirectX 9 mode on a Geforce 9600 GT 512 MB (the 1 GB requirement is crap). I saw a major improvement in armor textures. No performance drop.

DirectX 11 is not a requirement for the texture pack.

you could try forcing AA in the nvidia control panel and seeing if that works too

Thanks for the advice.

I am more interested in being able to see more than just one-tone skin on my characters. I'm thinking of how amazing Zaeed looks, on this same system; but my characters look like something out of some pre-2000 PC game. It's so digusting.

I realised that I can actually enable anti-aliasing, but that I get no anisotropic filtering and that the textures are either all smudges or fuzzy marks.

Please, Bioware. Give me a patch so that I can actually see the game's beauty. There doesn't appear to be a good reason not to see the incredible detail on my characters' skins just because I don't have DirectX 11. Think of Mass Effect 2!

Have you updated your drivers? There is a thread stickied near the top of this forumregarding DX11 performance issues - Some of the suggestions there may help you out too like the new beta drivers from Nvidia (267.59) That are currently getting rave reviews from myself and others.

As I've indicated, I can't run DirectX 11. nVidia GeForce 9800 GT is only DirectX 10 compatible.

Besides which my OS is Windows XP.

I threw my old 9800GT in my son's PC after I upgraded. Good card. Ran DA:O without any issues. These new drivers apparently improve perfomance on them as well. Worth a shot at the very least.

for "DX10 mode" the following settings need to be used:

DX11 / High Graphics

What do you mean by DX 10 Mode?
