Can someone please explain how Staffs work for mages? The stats listed in green are pretty self explanitory (+4 mana, etc,) but the base stat confuses me.

If a staff does 15 electricity damage is that a bonus to a spell that the mage casts that does electricity damage? Or is that the damage done when an enemy is close and the mage wacks him over the head with it (melee)? I can;t see how melee damage can be electrically based but that seems to me to be how it is working cause I am not seeing a bump in my spells fron similar staffs

Really confused has to which staffs are better for which character. Dont want to give a 15 electricity damage staff to Betheny if it boosts spells because she doesn;t have any lightening spells but if it is just the amount of damage the staff itself generates when it smacks someone then any of my mages can use it and just benefit fron the extra green stat bonuses.

Thanks!!!

ok, im just gonna take a stab here, this is just my interpretation with absolutely nothing to back it up. the hard numbers are the numbers your staff is gonna do. The +% numbers apply to your spells.

melee dmg can be elemental based, youc an find some items in the stores that are like electricity dmg swords etc

So a staff that does 15 fire damage as its base stat will do 15 fire for any mage as melee damage. That spec has nothing to do with the Spells cast by the mage and is not a boost to fire based spells?

Staves are both melee and ranged weapons at the same time, doing elemental or physical damage,i.e. a staff doing 15 fire damage will do 15 fire damage to its target at range or in close combat (depending on how close the mage is to his enemy), a staff doing 15 physical damage will do physical damage like a normal weapon (like a sword) either at range or close up. It also determines what element is used when casting "Elemental Weapons" on your allies.

Other than determining what element is used as extra  damage  for "Elemental Weapons", no, it has no added effect on other spells. It only affects what type of damage is done at range/in melee.

I think it's pretty much covered, but yea the 15 fire dmg would be like the normal attack dmg of the staff and what kind of dmg it does.  But I think that adds to your total "Attack" score which is based off your magic score.

For example I have around 42 magic score which gives me a 324 Attack score.  I am using a Spirit staff that does 28 Spirit dmg.  On average I get around 80 dmg per hit during normal attack.

The total will vary depending on enemy resistance and defense.

That score does not effect spell dmg that I am aware of, but if the staff lists in green like +15% spirit dmg, then yes it would effect all spirit dmg effects.  I think that would also increase the staff dmg as well if it was a spirit staff.

Not that I am aware of.  I've never really used one.  They would probably be good as an anti-mage staff sense they are most likely more vulnerable to physical dmg.

these are exactly the questions i wanted to ask: +%...damage is adding to spell-damage of the related magic school? and also adding like in the example +15% spirit dmg to say a staff that does cold damage?

could somebody verify? thank you.
