 HI everyone,

I just got to act 3 and I'm getting the bug where when I visit Merrill, she is crying in front of the mirror (out of order cut scene).

Is there any work around for this?   I have a save prior to ending act 2 and I have a save in act 3 before talking to her.

I have also just started Act 3 and am suffering the same problem. I reloaded from the start and until they fix it I am just going to leave her alone and do other things.

It's annoying really, as this is the only major problem I have had so far, it's been pretty smooth otherwise.

Well as of now I'm trying to figure out if I want to keep playing this character or just wait for the patch. Problem is that patches take so much longer to come out on the 360 due to the certification process.

I've also had a very smooth game up until this point BTW.

Yeah same, it seems to be a rather constant problem. Considering the version they had for the release didn't have the auto-attack GUI implemented like they had intended, I get a feeling this may also be because of that. Like an older version made it onto the print lacking a few fixes and implementations.

Hope they can get a patch out by the end of the month (that's counting certification). Who knows though. Kinda curious if anyone ISN'T getting this problem though.

the 360 version of this game doesn't have an auto-attack feature. I know, I've checked all the options for the game and also all the in game stuff. No auto-attack feature Adhin.

Furthermore, this is a bug everyone is having Paladin. It's waiting to be patched.

You must of not read what I said. I know there isn't one. They had intended there to be one and they're looking into how to patch it in. It's been commented on before. I was USING that as a reference as to reasoning why such an obvious is take must of been made with Merrill quest. It's rather obvious and constant, not sure how it gets missed. Little things I can understand, big story points broken like that though...

Seriously though the auto-attack thing was confirmed before release, and a mix-up is why its not in the game currently. I hope they just put an option for it in the menus, though I believe it was in the radial in the version meant to be printed.

I'll find the quote on it if you want but its floating around in this forum.

The mixup in the order of Merrill's cutscenes is disappointing and distracting, and for me, it lead to the Friend or Foe dialogue quest never even showing up at all. However, for those of you who are waiting, despite the order mixup and the Friend or Foe dialogue never even triggering, I was still able to finish the game and earn the achievement for romancing Merrill, so it's safe to play to the end even without the patch.

I just don't plan to romance Merrill on any subsequent playthrough until AFTER a patch is released to fix her storyline.

Well thanks for clarifying that!  I might just plow through to the end anyway.  But part of the problem is that who knows what state the final game save will be in.  That is, your choices might not be recorded properly for import into future DLC and sequels.

I admit I'm being overal anal, but this is an RPG and I get into the characters and story... ;)

But can we still romance Merrill, right?

You aren't, I won't jump on the Bioware hate bandwagon, but this kind of thing should not be in a final product. Especially considering that this screw up with the dialogue actually gives some fairly major spoilers regarding Merrill and the Dalish.

This is a rather big problem. I don't think I've ever come across a bug in a Bioware game (except for the neck stretching glitch at the start of the fight against Benezia in Mass Effect. I honestly never expected DA2 to be this buggy. I hope the quest and flag bugs get fixed soon.

I believe this related to Merill too. But as for my playthrough I did not give her the dagger. I, like many others, did get the scene where she was crying. Though nothing came of it. But -NOW- I am getting quests and scenes as if I DID give her the dagger.

Suddenly I have the quest A new path. Since I already saw the results of that quest through the scene glitch(And reading about it) I am fairly worried. Merrill says she will try it without me, and it kinda ruins all I was going for here.

The whole point was I didn't give her the dagger. I was high enough with friendship it didn't matter and then actually convinced her what she was doing was wrong. Kinda screws that all to wall with this bug that seems to reset that.

I did give Merrill the dagger, did romance her, and did have the cutscene trigger early. But I still had her Act III quest correctly trigger/initiate/complete, despite the early cutscene.

Just curious because I'm on my second playthrough and I'd prefer to romance Merill again: for those of you encountering the bug, are you maxed out on friendship with her at the beginning of the third act? I ask because I didn't max out friendship with her or even start a romance until Act 3, and never encountered the bug, so my scenes played in-sequence (and were quite effective as a result).

Just trying to figure out if this is caused because of max friendship, romance, or some other cause to see if it's avoidable. Really sucks for all those who encountered it, because honestly when it falls in-sequence correctly, I found it to be one of the most evocative scenes in the whole game. Final product definitely had no business shipping out that way.

Yes I had Merril moved in with me by the end of act 2 and I did get the bug.  I think the key to avoiding the bug is to save the romance until act 3.

So I have a save before I actually go to Merrill's house to start the quest, and she never started the finishing dialogue for A New Path before I started the quest. But after I finish A New Path there is no dialogue after to conclude it. Do you have to continue for it to give you another Merrill quest or should it pop up right away after finishing a New Path?

I agree. I didn't romance Merrill, and I had her loyalty sort of mid-rival (I kept the eluvian tool away from her). No bugs whatsoever.

However I refused to help her talk to a demon, but I still had to do the quest. Not sure if that's intentional though.

Just to confirm: The Act 3 Merill bug will NOT occur if her friendship isn't maxed out. I started a relationship with her in Act 2, but managed to prevent her friendship meter from maxing out and didn't encounter the bug. It's not much of a work-around, I'll grant you, but at least it's something to keep in mind.

For the record, I'm having this problem too and finding it really frustrating. I maxed out her friendship really early-- around the begining of Act II, so there's nothing I can really do about that. I'd consider waiting until a patch comes out to go forward, but then again I don't know how long I would have to wait or if it will even be fixed in the first patch. This is the first negative issue I've had with the game, but I'm not too happy about it, particularly because of the spoilers.
