Hello everyone. After the massive cliffhanger that is the ending I find it only natural to wonder what the future has in store for Thedas. To do so, I have a list below of the things that I've learned in DA1+2 that can be used to deduce what we might see a future story elements, and ofc I would greatly appreciate everyone's contributions as I certainly did not notice everything.

 - Qunari. Fenris tells us that the war between tevinter and the Qunari is restricted to the qunari simply holding ground, not at all going into the offensive. Fenris speculates they are building up their forces to the point where they can commit to war with all of Thedas, as they could conquer Tevinter as it is with relative ease(or so he estimates). Sten also mentions at the end of origin that it's a matter of when, not if that the Qunari will go to war with Thedas. Having developed an understanding of their belief system this is hardly surprising.
The problem for Thedas ofc, is with inner turmoil brought on by the mage-templar wars, it could largely be an easy target.

- Mage-Templar war.
As Varric tells it, 3 years after Meredith's death all 14 circles have succesfully liberated themselves from the chantry and templar control. Does this mean we have territory controlled by mage factions or simply a bunch of people hiding in woods fleeing recapture? Another question is whether Tevinter dares intervene on their mage breathens behalf.
Varric also mentions that templars have abandoned the chantry to hunt the mages. I'm not entirely sure what this actually means, but it would seem the chantry's military arm has grown a body of it's own. That templars are now a full-fledged military organization devoted to mage-genocide.

- The Chantry
If the templars had to separate themselves from the chantry and become a independant military organization in other to wage war against the mages this would indicate to me that chantry is not interested in a mage-templar war, and wants to work diplomacy. This could be hugely important with how great sway over the population the chantry holds.
A big question is the chantry's power without it's templar enforcers.
One of the rumours you get from the barkeep is that the Divine in Val Royouex(spelling) is getting old and has not selected an heir. I believe I got this rumour already in act 2 so by the time Cassandra questions Varric it has been another 6 years and she could likely be on her deathbed. If no obvious heir has been selected this could create massive internal friction between those who favour diplomacy and those who favour  the templar way of the iron fist.

- Ferelden
Alistair lets slip that a war could be brewing between Orlais and Ferelden. Certainly not a war Ferelden would seem equipped to win or even tie in it's current state of reeling from the blight.

- Future blight.
I've seen speculation of a 6'th blight coming. Certainly the Architect looks to continue his work, but it seems unlikely he would risk starting yet another blight. As I understand it, this speculation is mostly based on the orlesian warden from Awakening being called to Weisshaupt?

Add to the list and discuss away :)

What I'm looking forward to is being let down again, to be honest. Not going to get my hopes up again.

Yeah, being let down... having even LESS choice with respect to my characters' armor/appearances... having even more respawning enemies to bore me to death... having an even weaker 3rd act (if that is even possible)...

Dragon Age 2 should have been be called Dragon Age: Side Quests, since there doesn't seem to be any point in actually playing past the end of Act 2.

I'm indeed looking forward to it :) Just a shame not many appreciate/like plot but I loved every bit of it, sure it disgusted me and made me think meh but I been thinking a lot after I completed it and frankly I think it was amazing, tragic and beautiful in the end and it's obviously they can do a lot with it in the next dragon age :)

DA3 will be in Orlais...Sandal is going there...and there is no way that there will be a DA game without Sandel....so the next game has to be in Orlais

I'm not looking forward for DA3 if they are giving the same kind of "choices" we had in DA2. Or the same level of difficulty. The game is just too easy, too short, too straightforward. Too much like Mass Effect 2.

Just not my kind of game.

To me DA2 was really just a way to set up what's coming in DA3, obviously Thedas is in great turmoil and both the hero of Ferelden and the Champion of Kirkwall have mysteriously disappeared. The Qunari seem ready to strike at Thedas, specially after the events of Act 2, the Chantry seems to have lost a lot of its power with the loss of its templars and the mages seem to find it easy to use blood magic every time they're in danger, so we can expect lots of abominations walking about. While DA2 wasn't as awesome as DA:O, I bet DA3 will be much better, specially because by then Bioware will have learned from its mistakes, hopefully. The only bad thing, or perhaps good thing, is that DA3 will likely have a much longer development period than DA2, I'm sure Bioware wouldn't make the same mistake twice, and I'm hoping neither would EA.

The Chantry has a new military arm, the Seekers, since the Templars rebelled against the Chantry, most likely when the current Divine accepted the Circle cession, remember the Grand Cleric and the Divine refused the "Tranquil Solution", and you could tell the Grand Cleric in Kirkwall was not a blind zealot. It's not the first time this has happen remember how Fenris described the Circle in the Imperium. The Templars now hunt the Circle and vise versa. I am certain that in itself would stem any wars between nations. Everyone over night found themselves in a Templar-Mage war right in their own nation.

I did like DA2 in terms of the story, but I definitely wanted more options like in DA origins. The things that bug me the most is what happens afterwards regarding mages and templars. I also wanted to know regarding the seeker that talked to varric.

The biggest problem I had in terms of game play was the options such as armor. I had no idea about the armor upgrade for companions and I was stuck with the same armor for most of them throughout the game. They needed more mages in the game in my opinion (that can heal). As the game went on, I found myself relied on anders magic since potions have such a long cooldown time. This forced me to not kill anders and side with mages.

Edit:I wonder when DA3 will be out.

Let me go ahead and spoil how DA3's third act goes if this trend continues.

Merrill tells you that she can concoct a potion to revive the Keeper and asks you to help her gather ingredients to brew it. Unbeknown to you however she is secretly making a bomb that she later tricks you into helping her plant in the Divine's hospital ward. In the next scene you flee the explosion down a corridor identical to every building you've been in while pushing down elderly folk, destroying the peaceful Chantry and killing hundreds of senior citizens.

Then everyone dies.

I am apparently looking to the future (because I'm not sure how much I'm looking forward to playing DA3 right now... have to think about it) to see another nicely voiced, interactive, graphic novel telling a story I have no true impact on.
Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely looking game, and fun in its own way. It just isn't so much a roleplaying game in this incarnation as much as it is an action/adventure game where you can chose the tone of voice you'd like your character to take while not blowing things up.
But there are already a few dozen threads on this issue, so to get to the OP's point, here is a little of what I'm thinking we may 'read' in the next installment:

The Templars, if they have really broken from the Chantry fully, will have had to carve out at least one large base of operation, probably causing no small bit of friction in the kingdom they are in. They would also have to either establish friendly trade relations with Orzamar, or heavily involve themselves in illegal smuggling operations. Remember, Templars require lyrium to acquire and use their anti-magic abilities, and in the process become addicted to it. We've already seen the effects withdrawal can have on former members. They are, essentially, a bunch of very dangerous junkies.

The Qunari are all but sure to launch an attack on the lands of men (and dwarves, and elves), most likely at a time when those parties are at a heightened state of war amongst themselves. This makes sense both strategically and from a philosophical standpoint. The Qun require order in the world, and a time of continent-wide war would be a morass of chaos they might not be psychologically able to avoid striking out against.

Flemeth is sure to play some role again, most likely in some important yet background manner, much like the first two games... we may even learn who or what she is (current speculation puts her as anything from dragon to demon, to old god, to Andraste herself reincarnated).

Sandal will again steal the show (because who doesn't love a seemingly autistic dwarf who can seemingly beat an ogre to death with his bare hands, among other, let's just call them, quirks).

I think people are getting caught up in the "Empire" syndrome...that what this is Empire Strikes Back of course you have only very little control in how you go into 3. The next game should return to the how does the Champion change the world, not how does it lead up to him changing the world.
