I thought the "what do the numbers mean" thing was a reference to Call of Duty Black Ops?

Am I the only one that thinks these numbers were just OVERLAYED to some actual DLC in-game art? The numbers are a RED HERRING! Bioware is trying to confuse us!

They do appear to be "photoshopped" in, of sorts, they cover up the readouts on the screen behind them (and the font seems different). Wish we could zoom in better and read what else is on the display (aside form the relay and that trajectory-looking thing).

I certainly can't recall numbers showing up on any computer screens in ME1 or ME2 that looked like that.. the keyboard and other features seem fairly familiar (ok maybe not the red-button-thing) but those numbers really stand out, don't they?

I'll throw my hat in here.

This is Kenson's lab and research computer. The number is the estimated age of the particles she was studying from the relay. 300k years old. That's only 6 cycles, easily fitting into the Reaper numbers without any trouble.

I doubt it's a hint to a release date.

It's a screenshot. Not a freaking puzzle.

there's really no corrolation between that number and a release date, it probably has story signifigance which we wont understand till we play it

whats even more interesting is the fact that the numbers 304942 arent pert of the original screenshot, they have been photoshopped in :D

Maybe they are the release date for the dlc and it willbe released on the 30/8/11? =]

Marketing stuff rarely bothers me, but this seems a bit daft. A facebook scheme just for the release of a few screenshots that barely tell us anything? Really? D: Ah well, the hype train rolls on and they know we are all aboard. ;P

While we're busy going for wild speculation, the square root of 304942 is approximately 552.22 and the calculated velocity of the Milky Way relative to the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation is 552 km/s.... just sayin' ;)

I think you're right. Perhaps this is due to the stable operation of the Relay, or dark energy?

This DLC will tell us the release date of Mass Effect 3. Remember the last Cerberus Network post.

"A week of posts will precede a downloadable content release, and two more weeks will lead up to the release of Mass Effect 3"

So Mass Effect 3 should be released 3 weeks after this DLC.
If this is the last Mass Effect 2 DLC...

Er, no. It means one week of CDN entries = ME2 DLC (which is coming up, indicating this is probably the last ME2 DLC).

Then later in the year there will be two weeks of CDN entries = ME3 (probably around November/December).

Granted, English isn't my first language, but to my knowledge, that cerberus network message is in no way saying that the dlc will be launched two weeks prior to ME3. In the week leading up to the DLC there will be more CDN messages, and in the two weeks leading up to the release of ME3 there will be CDN messages, that doesn't necessarily say these weeks leading up to an event can all be added up together.

I don't get why people think the number is Photoshop'd. I assume everyone here at this point actually knows how the game/models works? Right, I'll explain briefly.

Example (monitor):
Image IPB

Most -- if not all -- of the monitors, holographic interfaces, keyboards, etc, etc. are all made up of either one, two, or three layers.

So, basically, it makes it easier for BioWare -- or indeed any developer -- to make or modify items in-game without having to put in much effort or resources into redesigning something. Effectively cutting down the amount of space (for resources on your HDD) and time it takes to make the game or add-on. You'll notice in many places around the game where the same monitor (not the one in the example, but others) can be seen, but with different overlays (i.e. graphs, text, etc.). In the example below I've used 3DSMax to add another layer to the textures already present, but not photshoping the image.

Example:
Image IPB

As for the number itself, it could be anything.

It could be the distance from the Relay.
It could be the mass to be transported.
It could be the last time it was used.
It could be when it was created.
It could be the last time it was deactivated.
It could be the last time it was activated.
It could be the time remaining until something happens (either in-game or a countdown until the DLC arrives)
It could be a counter for a build-up of some sort (i.e. Energy build-up, or Dark energy build-up, etc, etc.).

Or the counter may have nothing to do with the actual relay itself and it could indeed be photoshoped just to throw everyone off, but why bother when the DLC is just over the horizon?

My answer: we'll know what the number is about when we play the DLC.

Ok, fine, it's not "photoshopped" but it doesn't look like those numbers are supposed to be on that monitor either. Can you show me a screenshot where numbers show up on a monitor in-game looking like that? Preferably overlapping some background text of a different colour/font type. There is just something "off" about their appearance. And obviously that is the part of the screenshot the devs want us to focus in on, otherwise why would they have made it clear enough to read (and not say, the background text behind the numbers)?

I can't play the game right now, but I will in a few hours. To my knowledge there isn't another place which looks like that (edit: although now that I think of it possibly Overlord? I can't remember.). Whether or not they look like they are supposed to be there, my bet is that they are and it is obviously something that the devs want us to focus on because it's (possibly?) something important to the mission, something that they want us to know or remember.

It's definitely something memorable, I'll hand that to them.

I do like how everyone is trying to claim that a QWERTY keyboard is indicative of a human location. Even the Migrant Fleet uses QWERTY keyboards.. as do all the other species with less than 10 fingers.

The numbers though.. they stand out to me. Just wish I knew what it meant!

I think the number is a contdown.Maybee minutes: 304942/60 is approximately 5082 hours and per 24 hours its approx 211 days. So I think it means november, a possible date for the Reapers invasion, and the release date of Mass Effect 3... But it could be the price of a new, upgraded hamster in Shepards room... I dont know..
