alliance destroying it or disabling it for the sacrifice and the reapers can make a new one to get to earth and a destroyed sol relay would make sense with the me3 trailer and the normandy can still use the relays if the reapers lock them because of the iff

Think of the larger picture. It wouldn't simply be turn off relay, it would cripple humanity by cutting them off from the homeworld. I am not saying this is what is going to happen but I almost expect something like this to happen by the end of ME3
Humanity? Earth is only one planet, humans populate many other planets, stations and whatnot. Earth is not that important. Turning off the relay changes nothing, Reapers can get wherever they want anyway.
I hope it is really ultimate sacrifice - as in, someone (or more than one person) dies.

Well, either disabling or enabling. Both have their merits depending on the circumstances.tg1413 wrote...

It's official: The Ultimate Sacrifice is disabling a mass relay!
This fits with the achievement, but what would be the point in disabling one? We already know the Reaper's can travel perfectly well without them, albeit very slowly. All it would do is cut off parts of the galaxy from its citizens and slightly delay the Reapers.

Uhm, I disagree. Earth is the homeworld of Humanity and where the bulk of humans still live. Taking Earth takes humanity out of the picture for the most part.

Earth is not gonna fight the Reapers, human Alliance ships/soldiers on the other hand..
Attacking Earth might be a good choice (by the reapers), if they want to lure in Shepard in ME3, but that's about it IMHO.

Just from the small stuff I see...."If Shepard cant get help in time"......"ultimate sacrifice"....that relay....Im getting the picture here that in ME3 we are going to be cut off from an area at a time...or for a time...maybe we will be prevented from being able to get near earth for a period of time that makes it impossible for us to rush there...meaning we would still go on about things like we did in ME1 and ME2...sidequests and what not...
Also if my idea is anywhere near right...then it would indeed make sense for this to be the last DLC...It really seems like this one is setting us up for ME3....heres to hoping its an all out Awakenings like expansion...or maybe even a 2 part DLC...who knows
ERRRR ya know whats so annoying is that its probably DONE...the DLC is done and ready to go...but if I rememeber correct...didnt the last time they announced the SB DLC it ended up being like 2 months until release? GOD I want this DLC quickly and I know its likely gonna be 2 months away/

Think this DLC may mention those?

Anyone remember that Cerberus Daily News story a while back that was edited? It said something about Mass Relays having "Dark Switches" that could change their function if anyone figured out how to change them.
Think this DLC may mention those?
What is this? I don't recall hearing that at all.

They were mentioned in a Cerberus Daily News story last year, then retracted. It seems they came up again a little while later:
03/18/2010 - TR-15 Letus Becomes Closest Probe to a Neutron Star
“Astronomers are excited tonight as the probe TR-15 Letus comes the closest any probe has ever come to a neutron star. The star in question is in a globular cluster approximately 18,000 light-years from Earth. Though it contains slightly more than two times the mass of Earth's sun, its radius is a tiny 15.8 kilometers, spinning at approximately 24% of the speed of light. The probe was sent to the star via the Kappa Iota Relay, a charted but rarely-used relay predating the Rachni War. The relay was abandoned due to the highly lethal radiation found on the other side, but the small doses that pass through the relay are manageable for a shielded probe. Control of the radiation emission and reception of Letus's signal is made possible by the infamous Dark Switches, a set of previously unknown control functions the Protheans installed on mass effect relays.”

Earth is only one planet, so it's not an ultimate sacrifice yet this "someone" you speak of dieing makes it an ultimate sacrifice? Tell me how that works.

And how does turning off the relay sacrifices Earth? Tell me how that works.
Death = ultimate sacrifice, that is just axiomatic.
