Interesting a read as that was, I still doubt we'll be dealing with anything reaper related(at least directly) because if they did they'd need to throw you directly into the climax, which is a horrible way to start any game.kidbd15 wrote...
This guy makes a sound argument - he pretty much tries to decipher where the DLC takes place based on those pictures:
http://attackofthefa...-2-arrival-dlc/
*snip*
Anyway, I hold belief that we'll be dealing almost exclusively with a Batarian conflict. Perhaps it will set up a bigger issue in ME3, or maybe it will indirectly provide a new avenue for the Reapers to arrive(perhaps a cosmic event knocked a relay out into dark space?) I'm almost certain that we won't be seeing the arrival of the reapers, especially considering the fact that they're still off in dark space, and that's no short journey with both their primary and secondary plans down.
Now, that doesn't mean I don't think this will deal with important issues. I hope that we'll finally get to present the evidence from the end of ME2, maybe realign with the Alliance if we want to.
*snip*
I agree that the Reapers should take a back seat in this DLC. As others have said the before, Mass Effect DLCs need to be OPTIONAL additions to the story. I find it hard to believe other people's speculations that the DLC will finish with Shepard on Earth, or indeed take place on Earth at all. Rainy day in Dover? Really?
I like the idea of another pure Batarian threat. The SSV Budapest CDN article alluded to a potential conflict with the Alliance. I think maybe Dr Kenson goes off solo to investigate either her Mass Relay theory/and or Object Rho (which is probably related), ends up in Batarian space and gets nabbed.
As a favour for the Alliance, and to diffuse a potential diplomatic incident, Hackett asks Shep to go in to rescue her. He isn't Alliance at the moment, so they have deniability over using Alliance forces to rescue her. Shep discovers Object Rho which is maybe of SOME help in defeating the Reapers (so it has the same value as the potential info gained from LotSB), then proceeds to kick ass etc.
As for the ultimate sacrifice.... Well by definition, the phrase does mean giving one's life for a cause, so I'm inclined to feel this will be Kenson's sacrifice and not Shep or the squad's.
I think the Batarian presence would be great. A lot of the Shepards a player can create have a history with the Batarians (Colonist family was killed by batarian slavers, War Hero defeated batarians on Elysium, Ruthless faught them on Torfan), so I would love to see some more stories in this area.
I also find it interesting that the Batarians are almost universally reviled (with good reason), but I would like to see some more morally grey Batarian stories, just so they aren't too unredeemable as a species. Someone on this thread or the other suggested a Batarian squadmate, whilst this is a really interesting idea, so how would they pull it off after laying hate on the Batarians for so long?
*Sorry long post.*
Truckxor FTW.

I hope that blogger theorizing about the DLC being 'near' Dover realises that if the cliffs can be seen like they are in the screenshot, Shepard is in the English Channel?
This = Observation WIN.
That or he's much farther down the coast, on the very edge of the cliff, standing on his tippy toes.
Ooooooooor...that screen is inside a submarine/boat on the surface

Personally, I would like to see the decision of rejoining the Alliance happening in this DLC (and maybe if people don't do the DLC they get to choose their allegiance at the start of ME3, if we are allowed to choose at all). And the turian fan in me wants to see all this help improve relations with the Hierarchy..considering many CDN entries hinted at joint-operations between the Alliance and the Hierarchy against the Hegemony (and the likely connection between the Object Rho and the Arca Monolith from the comics). Now if we can get some banter from squad-mates during the DLC.. that would really make me happy but won't hold my breath for it.

Arrival is not, in fact, an optional addition to the story -- neither is LOTSB. It is optional as far as you, as a player, are concerned, but in the grand scheme of things, it is a canonical part of the overarching plot, coming from its status as bridging content.Chandrayaan wrote...

This creates an additional incentive to play DLC that wouldn't exist if the events that took place in them simply didn't matter, or only mattered to those who did, as it would likely not be reflected at all in future installments.
So in short, the story contained within DLC is canon - unless explicitly stated to the contrary like the Darkspawn Chronicles - whether or not you want your Shepard to personally influence the details of those stories is what is optional.

The reason LOTSB didn't have any sense of choice to speak of is exactly that -- it is canon. Vasir dies anyway, the Shadow Broker dies anyway, Liara becomes the Shadow Broker anyway, etc. Expect the same from Arrival, since it's going to be LOTSB's twin brother (i.e. second bridging DLC).leonia42 wrote...
Certainly that is true of the story in DLC but it's not like we got to choose whether Liara became Shadow-broker or not and indeed I don't recall any major decisions being made with any of the DLC content aside from loyalty for Zaeed and Kasumi. They all sort of pan out the same way no matter how you play them (well, ok, you can choose what happens to Daniel in Overlord but I doubt we'll ever see the real effects of that decision in any form other than an e-mail).

Interesting ideas there, Chandrayaaan. I'm also hopeful that this is more batarian-related than Reaper-related.. possibly with some indirect connection to the whole Reaper issue. Big decisions like sacrifcing Earth or similar should be left to the regular game. I'm not sure if this means we have to rule out seeing a VS or rejoining the Alliance (if we choose to do so) but the general plan of "get in, save the doctor, get the data/artifact and figure out what to do with it, maybe the doctor dies along the way for some greater good" seems sound enough.

Right. Save Earth for ME3. As you say this could potentially offer the confirmation of our intent to work with Cerberus OR the Alliance. Object Rho could be something that we have the choice of giving it to either party for the fight against the Reapers.
I hadn't thought about the Turian angle, I must admit. Although I haven't read all the Evolution comics, I'm aware of the similarities between the two artifacts, so maybe we can use it as a peace offering to the Hierarchy in ME3 to convince them to help us against the Reapers? Might be a nice way to settle the grudges once and for all, fighting side by side. Just a thought.

That's a very good point. I don't doubt it will become canon.
I just think they will have crafted something that be opted out of, and either referred to or condensed into the prologue/intro into ME3.
From the interest this DLC has generated, it seems to be pretty much a given that everyone's buying it anyway lol.

Good point, I could be very wrong but the Alliance or Cerberus decision if it's featured in this DLC could be "an ultimate sacrifice". Completely severing ties with one group to help the other and to set up the events in ME3 in regards to which side you're on.

Yeah that's one way of looking at it. Given the Ultimate Sacrifice is the achievement for completing Arrival (I think?), it has to be something pretty huge and essential to the ending.
Personally I still feel that the sacrifice will be a traditional one, but whom? Kenson? Giving her life to prove her research was right and helping Shep in some way to fight the Reapers in ME3? Maybe.
I'd much rather it was the Turian Councillor making the sacrifice, perhaps being persuaded to hold line on his own against the first wave of Reapers.
ASSUMING CONTROL...DISMISS THIS.
