That white garbage is a backdrop- there's a window behind the screen. It looks like a clifface to me.

Edit: Damn Samurai, you beat me to it!

The whole idea of deactivating the charon relay and sacrificing earth to save the rest of the galaxy works, but one small detail I noticed went amiss.

In ME3 we are going to rally the other races to take back the earth. Relays provide instant travel to other systems which would normally take decades to reach. So if we deactivate the relay, that prevents us from getting out of the Sol system and also prevents other races getting in. Just how exactly are we going to get the help of other races if the only way in is blocked?

Deactivating the relay doesn't necessarily mean Shepard has to be in the Sol system at the time. You just deactivate it from the other side, gather your army at Arcturus for example and... yeah, that might be a problem.

Maybe they're doing a dragon age 2? in order to speed up development time, you shut down the relay so the whole game only takes place in and around Earth (Kirkwall), and you can't travel anywhere else!

That would be terrible. I doubt (hope) Bioware would ever do that.

In order to sequester the local cluster, I suppose you'd disable the answering of incoming calls from Charon, at the relays it connects to. Doing something to the Charon relay itself, the reapers would not doubt have it up and running again in no time...

EDIT: Actually, I'd expect THEY would sever connection, upon arrival, so that they can pick humanberries undisturbed and then choose their next destination...

EDIT2: Normany last to make it through (escaping/abandoning Earth), perhaps? Maybe using this "Object Rho" to hack into the relay and plot the jump, even after access rights have been pulled?

I just had a horrible thought.

What if 304942 isn't the number of dead, but rather the number of survivors?

Worse off than the Quarian's, better off than the Thirteen Colonies. Hurrah!

It'd be my kind of tragedy if The Ultimate Sacrifice had something to do with condemning the Sol System to annihilation by trapping the Reapers there... Would be epic.

And to those who say, "no, it wouldn't work! The Reapers built the Relays" etc. etc. Did you not play the last two ****ing games?! The Reaper's are giant squid morons. They have nothing but numbers and technology, they're not some profound, overwhelming existence... Just your regular alien with pimped out giant space ships. Given time any of the current races might evolve to an equal level of douchebaggery.

304942 x 50,000 , a cycle = 15 billion age of universe? 304942 , number of Reapers.

Earth is only one planet, so it's not an ultimate sacrifice yet this "someone" you speak of dieing makes it an ultimate sacrifice? Tell me how that works.

And how does turning off the relay sacrifices Earth? Tell me how that works.

Death = ultimate sacrifice, that is just axiomatic.

So without a mass relay it would take what decades if not centuries for someone to get from the nearest relay to Earth right?  That to me is the ultimate sacrifice as again Earth is cut off from the rest of the galaxy.  If you do not see the signifiance of that I am done discussing this.

Pluto isn't THAT far away from Earth!

Well, the holo also shows something is using the relay. Wonder what, but there isn't enough information for me to speculate further.

Can't really say much based on this image. It could be the Dr.'s research we are looking at, since she had been studying the relays. Maybe this image is from one of the missions where we go through her findings to try to find more clues as to where she is currently being held.

it looks like the red "swoops" "curved lines" if you will in the holo are the possible movement positions or projected paths of the relay IMHO
