I honestly don't get the idea behind this whole "The Mass Effect 3 trailer must be the beginning of the game" thing. The argument is that we "don't know" when it takes place but if we look back at Bioware's past history of Cinematic trailers it's quite clear that we aren't dealing with an early game scene.
First and foremost, Mass Effect 1:
Now, I think that anyone in this forum should know well that this scene wasn't the beginning, and while not entirely factual, it has to happen at the earliest after your visit to the Citadel. That puts it at roughly an hour to two in, depending on how much side content you do.
Then we have Mass Effect 2:
Now while the argument can be made that some of the footage isn't all during the same time period, it's clear that those are retrospective shots and that the meat and bones of the trailer takes place during an event almost half way through the game. Specifically it seems to be at the end of said event and it's clear that at the very least it's past half way through. Yet again, not a liter translation of the game scenario yet still quite definitively placed in the game's timeline
But that was just two trailers you may be thinking, well I direct your attention to Dragon Age: Origins full cinematic trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNy4C7FQR-w
Now you could argue that this is a nondescript event in the game but if you've played Dragon Age Origins and you look at the title of the video it's clear where this is and when it takes place. Of course this could be the second main quest you complete but even if it is you are still dealing with it being around 10 hours in, assuming you did the sidequests you came across up to this point.
Now, just in case you're still not convinced. In case you think I'm absolutely bonkers and that I have no idea what I'm talking about because you think everything presented up to this point has been rhetoric, spun merely to forward my own agenda I point you towards the Dragon Age 2 trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aM2K4uyPMI
The scene depicted here cannot happen until a predetermined point in the game. I shall not spoil it but again, anyone who has played it shall know when this happens and realizes the significant ammount of content you must play through just to get to this point. It is at least 10 hours in, assuming no glitches are used due to the simple efforts of the first act of the game.
I don't know about you guys, but this doesn't seem like a very good jumping off point. They would be setting you up at the climax, with just the falling action left to satiate you. And what of those who didn't play this DLC. What of them? Do you think Bioware would forsake them to hearing about the invasion second-hand? No.
"So you mean disabling the Charon Mass Relay would be the Sacrifice so Reapers target Earth first before getting control over the Citadel and wreaking havok across entire galaxy."
OMG BEST THEORY EVER!!! That would mean in the teaser when Shepard is looking at Earth as it burns, he actually turns away and walks up to Joker and says "ok Earth is screwed, lets go find a way to beat these bastards!"

Great theory BUT... renegades really wouldn't give a rip.

Sure they would, renegades are pro human, anti alien... at least thats the way the dialog presented itself to me
Its funny how people see an image of a Mass Relay and automatically think that because it is nameed "Arrival" means that its the beginning of the Reaper Invasion. If the Reapers could invade by such an obvious means, they would have when Sovereign realised the Citadel Relay wasnt responding.
Its likely going to be something mundane or relating to a possible ally race you can convince to help in the fight to come.
I agree with that relay being the Charon one. The "Ultimate Sacrifice" thing probably is about closing it/destroying it so no more Reapers get into/out of the Sol system.
Also, I dont know how relevant this is, but judging by how the keyboard on that computer strongly resembles a conventional "human" keyboard, I would say it fits all together.
Hi everyone, I came up with a theory, what if the numbers on the screen are the number of Reapers on their way!
I made a full post about it on my blog if anyone is interested, but in short, the maths add up to them originating some 12 billion years ago. This would make them probably the first race to evolve in the universe and also the first to have had chance to forge the relays, since they did not have the threat of reaper salvation through destruction stuff...
I think the number is the date of how old the relays really are. Its 304,942 years old! If you’ve read the Cerberus Daily News, “01/24/2011 - Paper Suggests Mass Relays Predate Protheans.
“Only a small fraction of the mass effect relays date back 50,000 years.” This blows away any theories that the Protheans ever built the relays.

I wonder what the Illusive Man would think of Earth being the ultimate sacrifice. In a (unlikely) plot twist, perhaps he would have something to do with the actual decision? I don't know lol, at any rate, I'd love to see how Cerberus and the Illusive Man would react to Shepard intentionally sacrificing Earth.
Also, I wonder where Shepard actually is in the screenshot. You can see what looks like a mountain range off in the distance. Mars perhaps? Kinda has that look.

I'd be happy if the Illusive Man simply showed up in the dlc. I still have a few words to say to that guy.
Nice, another new screen. Kind of hard to get an idea what's going on without an idea of where the plot of the DLC is going. Come on Bioware, announce it.
