Hey I think it would be cool to have Isabela as an archer - Oh wait I can't
That would be so cool to throw a shield on my mage sometimes - Oh wait I can't
Wow this armor I found would be perfecet for Fenris - OH WAIT HE CAN'T [UMBRELLA] WEAR IT

epic fail BW

It's not an epic fail....If I trained with/used daggers all my life, I obviously haven't used a bow or a shield in combat....so, they spare you the trouble of TRYING to put those things on certain characters. It would be wasted effort for you to do this, and wasted dialogue for the character to say..."No, I don't know how to use this." Causes confusion and stuff....just unnecessary....not mainstream, streamlined....just a different way of doing things.

I can understand not being able to make Isabela an archer but the rest I have adapted to.

You can find armour upgrades for Fenris that "would be perfect for Fenris." All games have limitations. We can't cater to every individual's imagination.

Wow, they can't put different clothes on? No wonder they're wearing the same thing 3 years later. So it's just the characters that are stupid and not the game.

It's about taking customization away, nothing else

I really am glad I did not get this game, the restrictions just seem too much.

If you’re playing on the PC download this file http://www.dragonage...ile.php?id=2143 and all worries will be solved :)

Quick edit its only for weapons not companion armour

I thought it would have been cool if Leliana was a mage, but I never could get her to learn any spells.

Sten also refused to wear any Kaddis I tried to give him, the stubborn bastard.

"Looks confused"; DA:O did not have these limitations.

Yeah, they could of...but I try not to nitpick too much, you know? Plus, we all know that Bioware was under pressure and a strict time limit...so we all should cut them a little bit of slack. Oh, and some outfits CAN change, I know this....like Merrills and such. But yeah, it would have been cool if their outfits were different in each act.

Maybe Varric wanted it to be that way!Posted Image

You could if you didnt strip the freedom that was given to the player in the original game from the sequal. Just sayin' though.

This one is kind of big... If you wanted to go that route it would have been better to only have stuff that can be equipped by current Hawke drop, otherwise it just draws attention to the non armour customisation and frustrates people. Especially when companion armour if very low compared to what Hawke can get.

Well...DA:O was also a game of less quality in comparison to DA2....low quality graphics and the silent protagonist allow for different characteristics to be strengthened. Plus, they had more time to work on it.

If Varric was allowed to wear armor that covered his chest then all the companion comments about his hairy chest wouldn't make sense!  Posted Image

Another one of those "The game you're asking for is an impossibility!" quotes.  Right up there with "What were all the disappointed people expecting??"  As if DA:O weren't sitting right there in plain sight.

How about from a statistics on the piece point of view.  That isn't outside the realms of imagination.

As a class picking up amazing pieces of armour left and right that isn't for your class why can't you give them to your companions and why wouldn't they choose to upgrade?

This comes down to design decisions having poor effect on in game sense and makes things unintuitive.  I completely get not changing the style of another character because a knife fighter as an archer doesn't make sense, but in terms of their armour it really doesn't help to be wandering around with sacks full of the latest and greatest and for nobody else to use it because in two hours time you can buy upgrade x from store y.

That's an odd statement, considering you could turn Nathaniel into a dual-wielder, Anders into a Spirit mage and Justice into an Archer in Awakenings.

The combination of freedom of talent-specs and the ability to respec gives us whatever freedom we wanted in Awakenings. The talent respec is important, otherwise you get the non-modded DAO situation where, say, Alistair is stuck with a bunch of sword/board talents and it doesn't feel worth persuing another avenue with a bunch of talent points spent in areas that you'll never use.

Its unclear why this kind of thing wasn't accomplished in DA2, except if Isabella's character animations literally lack bow-related stuff. Granted, if you made Varric a dual-wielder, you couldn't have played out the eerie Bianca thing. Was it to reduce the complexity, and ensure that someone didn't end up speccing Isabella badly? If so, maybe you can appreciate why people think you're catering to the lowest-common-denominator.
