And that quote right there may be the final straw for me with this series. As stated it was done in DA:O. I could sit here and rant about every other thing with DA2 that irritated me but others have already said it and again that quote right there makes me feel like bioware just told us all to go to hell.

Awww common Stanley , you can tell me , just whisper it... nobody can hear.
The real reason is because the guy who made it happen ain't there anymore right :)

Merril can't learn Spirit...but can learn Elemental?
Exactly WHY?

It's the Creation school that Merrill can't learn, which makes perfectly good story sense -- her magic is corrupted by her dark arts, so she can only "heal" parasitically, through blood magic.

Beh. That makes no sense.

The PC cna be a spirit healer and blood mage and learn any magioc school.
Why should Merril be barred from Spirit school? Especially when it doesn't conflict with her personality.

Why should Carver be barred from Sword & shield? Did a shield kill his family or something?

Guess he looked at the ogre in the prologue and was like "holy sh!t that guy´s head looks like a shield now using one is out of character for me!"

I am not fond of not being able to customize your team's armors.

If the intent was to keep a specific *look*, this problem was solved in a previous bioware game (Neverwinter nights).

There are several character models that are not dynamic. You put simple clothing on them, or a suit of full plate mail armor... they *look* the same. Sure it breaks realism that they *look* like they're wearing a 70's style hairy chest shirt while they actually should look like a walking tin can... but realism is obviously out in a fantasy setting.

I don't understand why this couldn't have been done with DA2. I don't see the "development cycle" argument as compelling because there was obviously effort put into the companion armor with the whole "upgrading" situation.

Nor do I necessarily see it as not catering to everyone in allowing gear customization. The people that WISH to muck about with team member gear, can do so. Those that do not.... don't have to. It's not *required* to switch their gear.

It's an option that by no means precludes the other. Not having in that feature however does "cater" to one crowd, but bars another from a rather standard part of an RPG experience.

And a last point... if the development cycle was dictated by EA, then by all means, please relay the comments to EA that not rushing a game may allow BW to fully develop a game that appeals to a greater number of consumers, both the returning fanbase, and the newer fanbase.

And IMO, creating a greater and larger fanbase of new and old consumers is a great goal to shoot for.

Hey I think it would be cool to have Isabela as an archer - Oh wait I can't
..
epic fail BW

So what you're saying is that you think it makes for a better game if you can take a woman whose combat training is defined entirely by being an agile duelist, and who often does battle in close-quarters on board ships, and turn her into an archer?  Bullsh*t.  I think it cheapens her character's individuality.  It makes about as much sense as handing Sten -- a guy whose life literally revolves around melee combat -- a crossbow.

Sure you could do it in DAO if you wanted, but it doesn't make any sense.  Sometimes RPG's are not just about "freedom" to do whatever you want, whenever you want.  Sometimes they are about telling a coherent story with coherent characters.  In fact, I'd argue that they are more about that, but that is just my preference.

It doesn't make sense?!?  I would not call equipping Isabella with a bow "freedom to do whatever I want".  Freedom to do whatever I want would be making Isabella a dragon-shapeshifting blood mage elf-ogre asian.  She's a very agile rogue for gods sake!  I think she would have the ability to pick up a bow!  I don't even care that she doesn't have an archer skill tree.  I would be happy If I could just equip her with it!!

To be honest Mr. Woo, considering Bioware's past RPGs, I think I'd actually believe it if you told me/us that DA2 was made by another branch of EA, and just had the Bioware name tagged on due to your (past) rep.
Especially since the writing, characters, plot/story has always been the greatest strengths of Bioware, it's a shame that it wasn't evident in DA2.
It does seem to reduce the view we have of Bioware itself, and the quality work of your co-workers from past games.
And having played BG1&2, NWN(OC,SOU,HOU), KOTOR, ME1&2, DA:O, it kinda makes me a bitPosted Image to think that DA2 came from you guys.

While not necessary to everyone, it would've been nice to have the option to alter the armor of our companions.
Maybe you could've had a certain number of different armors for the companions?
Upgrades being similar to AC2/Brotherhood, adding the shoulder pads(for instance) to the character's look when buying/equipping them just for the sake of immersion.
Maybe like NWN where you could redesign your armor look anytime you wanted?

While some characters start out more proficient in melee than ranged, surely (immersion-wise speaking) they can hone their ranged skills as they gain more and more experience, yes?

I also agree with the others who thinks DA2 should've stayed in development for a while longer, while not as long as DA:O ofc, after all DA:O had to establish the universe with the lore, races, backgrund, nations etc.

It probably sounds arrogant of me, but maybe you should play your older games and see the appeal of them and try to revive them in one form or another?
After all, the fact that people still compare them so many years later speaks quite highly of them, and rightfully so.

Player Characters are meant to be demigods of awesome. NPCs are just sidekicks who fall short of MY glory.

Many of my forum mates are saying that DA 2 should have been developed longer. That is where the conflict come in between freedom and revenue. As long as Bioware was an independent company from EA it had the freedom to develop longer the problem is that it did not have the resources. Longer development times require more money to pay all those good people who are developing the game. Bioware did not have the necessary resources. EA does.
So Bioware sells itself to EA. You lose the freedom you have but gain the resources. Since you have lost the freedom you have to answer to EA's timetable and EA's budget constraints.
It comes down to economics.

It's not an epic fail....If I trained with/used daggers all my life, I obviously haven't used a bow or a shield in combat....so, they spare you the trouble of TRYING to put those things on certain characters. It would be wasted effort for you to do this, and wasted dialogue for the character to say..."No, I don't know how to use this." Causes confusion and stuff....just unnecessary....not mainstream, streamlined....just a different way of doing things.

In intelligently designed games people can use and train different types of weapons. They can train bows one day a week and use it at times, and they can use and train a sword in other times.

This is how it is in real life too.

That would be valid if you didn't already have armour changing in Origins. Swapping armour isn't a limitation - it's simply dumbing down. Nothing more. You're talking as if switching armour is beyond your capibilities and is futuristic. I suppose another limitation caused you to name every belt 'belt' and every dagger 'dagger'? We're not asking you to step up, we're asking you why you took a step down.

Next time you buy a car it will be sold without windows. If you ask why is this the car merchant tells you it is new streamlined model. But if you wait a 6 month you could get windows as accessory - provided you pay of them.

Edit: (People just would not be so dumb that they would by the car mentioned.)

Im just curious about the CM's from Bioware. I'm german and i haven't seen any comment from Bioware/CM'S so far in the german threads. Do i really have to post my opinion here to get a response?ok....i'm posting here right now and why?But hey...just for Mister Woo......me and my friends won't buy any more Bioware Games. DA2 was way to disappointing.
And one last question: why does Hawk doesn't age?He looks the same from start till the end after 10 YEARS!?????ok.....holy grale or some drugs,i want it too. Guess getting old is not cool for a hero^^. Worst Bioware product so far. I want my BG2 back.....damn it i'm a PC user....i won't get any good treatment anymore. Consoles are the future. Damn why haven't i bought an Xbox....^^.
