the community is divided enough as it is over this...there's enough pr disaster going on w/out this adding to it

and what is it with saying all the haters don't own the game? I haven't yet seen anything to prove that theory...I can just as easily say that all the people who love the game only say that 'cause they're fanboys and haven't actually played the game themselves

I'm not saying this is the case...it's the same type of logic

Certainly cut down on the trolls though. And by trolls I mean people who simply joined a few days ago and spammed images or insulted everyone, not people who just had negative opinions.

Pretty simple really, it looks bad.  No other forums have similar "registered only" sections.  It's not a big deal but it sends a bad message.

And I've been browsing these forums since the game came out, I haven't seen this "spam" you're talking about.  Unless negative criticism counts.

Exactly, it accomplishes nothing except adding fuel to the fire.

Just off the top of my head, yesterday there were a couple of really *nice* threads dedicated to Stanley Woo's ethnicity that had to be removed, including one whose title stretched out the boards and contained profanity. The new board probably would have prevented something like this, or at least keep the user who seemed unhappy with some previous moderation from ban-dodging to do it multiple times. On this board, he can keep coming back as long as his little racist troglodyte attention span holds out.

The quality of discussion on this board is pretty poor. If the restricted board makes people put a little more thought into what they say, how they say it, or if it really even needs to be said before they hit the "submit" button, I think it's worth it. It's really not that hard to be civil and keep yourself from being banned.

If you want to stay in the sandbox with the kids who think that pooping in the sandbox is a ton of fun, that's your prerogative and you're welcome to do it.

Pretty sure I can go d/l the demo and post to those boards.  Contrast this with Bioware where I can d/l the demo,  but am now segregated out because I don't think it was a quality game.

Bioware made a very poor demo (IMO)... it is not representative of the final product.

The threads, comments and reviews being discussed in the game owner section seem to be (not so) surprisingly positive... kind of goes to show just how often people will mouth off about something they really know little to nothing about.

That's on Bioware,  the demo is what I judge the final product on,  as that's the intent of a demo.  It's supposed to sell a game.

Actually,  all it shows is that when you put people in a room to talk about a game they bought after having played a demo,  they like the game.  When you put people in a room to talk about a game they didn't buy after having played a demo,  they don't like the game.

Honestly,  you're trying to create an "Elitist" standard here.  "Oh,  those people can't know anything about the game because they didn't buy it,  the Demo doesn't count!".  I do know,  I know I hate color coded dialogue,  and the combat plays like a mid-80's arcade game.  I really don't need to buy the whole game to determine that I really do hate color coded dialogue and that the combat still sucks.

But now apparently my viewpoint isn't valid anymore,  because I didn't pay Bioware $60 to determine that yes,  I really do hate those things I thought I hated with the demo.

A forum for talking about the game that is restricted to people who own the game. Seen as the non-registered owners forum is still running I realy see no issue with this.

I must respectfully disagree.

The quality of discussion here is at a pretty high standard considering the high amount of traffic.

I most certainly would not call the honored posters here "kids pooping in a sandbox".

Regarding personal attacks, I think that kind of posts are equally unacceptable in this forum as in the closed one. But the moderators do a really good job at rooting out the worst ones.

For how long though? Now they have everyone where they can keep an eye on them.

Eh? From an admin/monitoring point of view nothing has changed!

Realy whats the issue? both forums are still usable. I for one am very displeased with DA2, and appreciate a seperate forum to post in as well as this one where you know any critticism or counter critticism is by people who actualy own the game

I disagree because there is very little discussion going on.

Praise is dismissed as easily as criticism. It doesn't seem to matter if or what you've actually played. Critics are whiners. Satisifed customers are suck-ups. There hasn't been an original legit complaint in days.

Unproven conspiracy theories and paranoia abound. A chunk of the board is so scared of Bioware and EA locking them out of their games for a day or two that they won't register their games because of things they've heard fourth or fifth-hand at this point. Some stranger on the internet told them, also strangers on the internet, that it was true - and that stranger has seen the screencaps, all very damning - so it must be so.

The "I told you so" crowd start up brand new threads to gnash their teeth about what the game could have - SHOULD HAVE! - been and swear to never buy another Bioware game, while other players scratch their heads looking for the key elements whose removal supposedly ruins the whole game even though they never noticed these elements after 100 hours of playing DA:O. ("Tactical wha?")

We complain about the board's requiring software registration like it's never happened before to any game anywhere, when Bioware's other game boards have been just like this for years. There's "THE PIT" (this board - general discussion) and the rest is safely tucked away behind walls to keep out the sociopaths.

Bioware's old games are periodically dredged up so we can all wander down memory lane and think about how cool 3/4s of Baldur's Gate 2 was while forgetting what an uneven mess 3/4s of Neverwinter Nights was.

As someone who initially came to these boards for info about the game, this place is poison.

(Why am I still here then? I won't have my copy of the game until later in the week, so I can't go to the restricted boards yet.)

I most certainly would not call the honored posters here "kids pooping in a sandbox".

I didn't say we all are - and I don't believe any of us are "honored" - but some of us most definitely don't know how to behave around others. Every board has some and these boards are no different.

Frankly, the boards have made me glad the game lacks a multiplayer component so I don't have to worry about running into any of you in-game.

Regarding personal attacks, I think that kind of posts are equally unacceptable in this forum as in the closed one. But the moderators do a really good job at rooting out the worst ones.

And in this forum, it's just about impossible to prevent repeat offenders.

Tied to his software registration in the other forum, troll gets his one shot at infamy and then he gets a vacation, possibly permanently.

Creating a separate forum won't change the fact that DA2 is a bad game.

Bioware made this Restricted Section because there was so much hate.
But guess what?
Us "haters" have our own "Restricted Section" RPGCodex.com!

I for one like the idea of not being spammed by people with multiple accounts pretending to be unique users just to get their point across.

Personally speaking, I'm not a hater, but I know crap when I see it and if that crap comes from Bioware at $60 a pop, I'm going to rail against it, especially if it's a rushed hack job a game with an insane amount of repeated areas.

FYI, if you take a look at the registered area, you'll still see disparaging remarks re DA 2.

So now we are users with multiple accounts ? Just accept the fact the opinions differ. It's a game. A bad game. Hate doesn't have anything to do with it. We just don't like it as a game and we are using the forum to express our dislike. How simple is this? Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

i bought this game used so....i don't think i even could register it, and i returned it anyway. just because you don't have the game registered, doesn't mean you didn't play it.

This.

The replayability of this game is next to zero. No multiplayer, only some upcoming dlc which if they are similar to the 10 minutes extra content from Origins would be laughable. 60 euro for a 25 hour long game in nightmare? Sorry but no thanks EAware. I will patiently wait until the price is =~ 10 euro with all DLCs just to add this in my collection of RPGs.

apparently if you don't like the game and / or don't register you're either a hater, troll, pirate, pc elitest, or someone who creates multiple accounts *smirks*

Yeah, I'm sure that's exactly what the plan was. Please.  No, the other forum was created to cope with the spamming, period.  Now, true, it's a futile effort, but that is why they did it.

Nope.  Not so long as the 360 and PS3 versions use infinitely-reusable, non-unique UPC codes to register.  Then they've got as many shots as they care to take.
