The monster spider does not move anywhere on all occassions I have met it because bioware made the environment too small for it. This has made this boss not even a boss because it cannot move anywhere don't know if this is a glitch or bug. It is just annoying to find a boss that cannot do anything to archers and mages because of the environment being too small for it.
Monster spider problems because of it size easy kill for mages and archers

It's probably just a bug with its tactics, similar to how companions just stand around and do nothing during a fight. It also seems to effect some other bosses/enemies as well.
