Am I the only one that thinks Hawke and Warden meeting in-game is the most dreadful idea ever? No offense, I just don't think Bioware can pull it off convincingly.
It's impossible to pull off. That's why it's a terrible idea.
The graphics and engine change means you won't import appearance. You'll import race and class. Which means they'll need to design a whole suit of armor (or robes) and something to cover the face. Then they need 6 voice actors and dialogue changes for each Origin (after all a Dalish Elf, City Elf, and Mage Elf would all have very different experiences despite being the same race... and Dalish Elf would need their own VO since Dalish now sound Welsh).
So now we're up to 8 voice actors for the Warden. And they can't talk about Origins stuff because of all the massive amounts of import errors between games and DLC. But also because then the dialouge would expand massively for the Warden which will only increase the distance players felt with their Warden and how BioWare casts and directs this Warden.
And if they leave the Warden speechless then it'll be a joke. There's no way around it. If Ban Teagan, Alistair, or Leliana came with the Warden and did all the talking for this faceless nameless mute then all it'll do is draw attention to the fact that here's a needless cameo.
And what could the quest possibly be here? What does the Warden (Blight Quelling, Parent of a God, and all around roaring success on the battlefield) need Hawke (all around loser and passive protagonist) for? What? The Warden's now a Warden-Commander with an army of super competent warriors solving something in the Deep Roads that we know next to nothing about (other than a few hints in DA2's core game).
Hawke could have a Warden sibling, true... but they're just as likely dead or not Wardens. So that can't be the connection because it'd be terribly weak and stupid for non-Warden Sibling Hawkes.
What's the benefit? You can't have the Warden talk. You can't show the Warden's face. They already can't keep what your Warden did straight with the current import bugs. I don't see a win here.
As others have said the only way it would possibly work is if you played the Warden. And Laidlaw and Gaider both said that we're not going to replay protagonists.
What's the point here, guys? What's the story? Why?
It's easy to just say things. But try to look at how they'd do it. And what the benefit of even attempting those things would be. Warden DLC just wouldn't work. And it's lack of working would only ****** off people. Especially if they had to simplify scripting and cut costs by establishing a canon Warden.
EDIT:
And the Warden had their big goodbye. The fantastic ending for Origins if they didn't agree with Morrigan. And the meh ending in Witch Hunt if they did. There's no more need for a big goodbye to that PC. We've had two already.
