I'd rather not have loot than have the trash loot.
But trash loot is a CORE RPG ELEMENT! Without it, DA2 can no longer claim to be an RPG!!!

7/10 console
I own pc, played once on 360
Alienated many pc gamers with this console port. And everyone should be angry with the extreme reuse of dungeons. Made this game too linear and too much like me2 (me2 being far superior).

- The story was weak. Had no real clear goal.

I continue to stand by that. I am very disappointed in how DA2 turned out as a product but it has good points. What looks like cutting corners and such to meet a deadline is what truly turns me off on it. That and I was tired of playing it by the end of Act 1. I do like the the combat is more fast paced, the player character is voiced, and the new talent/spell advancement system. I wanted to give it a higher score but I feel a 7/10 is still being generous. The game feels rushed. Missing textures, reused areas, less conversation with companions that in the previous game. "Junk" to sell that really has no reason to be there, though I think DAO had some as well. Why did I give it a 7/10 if there are so many things I don't like about DA2? And there other things I don't like... Simply looking at it as a stand alone game it gets a 7/10. It's not likely a game I will play often and I will be careful before purchasing any further DLC for it and I will not be pre-ordering DA3 based on what I've seen of DA2. I pre-order DA2 because I like DA:O and DA2 looked good. I will be giving a DA3, when the time comes, a chance to come out and I will decide then. But I'm just disappointed with DA2.

Without DA:O as its father, i would give it 6/10 for a first try.
As a console gamer, comparing to what i tried as a RPG on X360 it's a good 7.5/10.

I play it at the moment in PC with high textures and DX11 in normal difficulty as mage Hawke. I have played 24 hours so far.
DA2 is beautiful game and gameplay is very nice. Then why only 7.5?
DA2 lacks in one major thing. To play story of Hawke, players needs to know the goal as what Hawke is trying to do in story as motive. Now hole story feels like random quest without knowing why Hawke is really doing something. There is no goal other than just survive or become rich or help others. What reduse alot of my interest to play the game. Why I do what I do, is important factor to keep player interested to game. So I redused 1 score point, because lack of it.
Other reasons to cause as not have perfect score point is, recycled enviroment, combat while it's good fast action like, it has too much weight in damage solve's everyting. Also some limitation as customation (companion armor, talent trees, gear attributes) and unability choose (companions who to have, because class player has), redused the total score. Also while graphics is not really required to be perfect for this kind of games, I think for todays standard it's not really that good. I mean effects and quality is fine, but doesn't really give me any wow feelings. Faces are pretty statics and hairs doesn't move. Sound and voices are exelent. Quests are well writen. Story telling by scenes are excelent.

I'm going 9/10.
Recycled maps were a little odd at first, specially after DAO's maps. However, in a theater you can often see the same set pieces used over and over again... because the set doesn't really matter. It's the story that is told.
I loved how the game and the story fit together. It was perfect. The boring camp click fest is gone at long last, the boring dialogue click fest is gone at long last. A voiced protagonist is now a must in RPGs and the convo wheel can stay too.
Companions were great, though will say I could have used 2-3 more exchanges before or during the romances. Still, I got plenty of interaction with them through the travel banter, the cut scene dialogue, and their personal cut scenes.
Action was actiony. :-) I play on casual and flat out loved smashing the crap through every thing came at my team. It ruled. It was very much battle-story-battle-story and I loved that. The waves... I'm not such a fan of waves of monsters. They totally have their place.. but wave after wave of the random attack groups were amazingly dull during the night sections when I was trying to get to quest/story objectives. Waves have their place... Not all over the place. :-)
The cinematics were great and I loved how they blended into the action. They should all work that way. I want all of them to be 2-3 times longer than they were. :-D
Are you my long lost twin?

-Area recycling
-Disgusting amounts of DLC that for some reason can't just be added to the game for free
-Health bars on UI, trying to click person in Inventory screen and getting redirected to character level up screen
-lots and lots of useless items
-No inspect option
-Little codex lore
-Little main character to party interaction
-No top down view
-Wave system for enemies is annoying
-No feel of a bustling city
-Bad textures on city background folk
-Bad finger textures
-No character tracking, kills, % damage etc
-Still feel like I need to run around the whole game holding tab so I don't miss anything
-Weak main plot, felt stunted and binary decision at the end was bad
-Character personality change for Anders, I liked him more in Awakening when he was funny and not trying to jump onto the end of my man-sword
-Retcons saves from Origins and expansions/dlc
-Forgettable characters
-Short
-Lots of much better items for party members, but due to the stupid system they can't wear it
-Glitches and bugs everywhere
-Can't access inventory from main base/house for all party members, have to go in and out repeatedly to level/give them items
-Can no longer steal from everybody
-The dialogue paraphrasing is annoying
-The dialogue wheel is annoying, click the top right to be the good guy and get friends, click bottom right to be the bad guy and get rivals
-Everything exploding into jelly is juvenile
-New character models for Darkspawn (especially Ogres) is disappointing
-Unresolved and open ending
-A full game price for half a game
-No middle ground, everyone is either a raving blood mage or a mage-killing templar
+Combat is more fluid, teleporting everywhere as a rogue is decent
+Background chatter between party members and party members and NPC's is fantastic
+New character models for Qunari look well done
+The loading screens

I really, really like the user interface and combat. They were both slow and dragged on in Origins, unless you played from the top down in which case it was a rather different experience. If DA2 had the top down view available that'd be awesome. Still, I really like the fast menus and the way the talent trees are presented.
One thing that the game really could have done without are the mindless fetch and return quests. When I returned an item I had no idea what I was turning in and didn't care.

I have to disagree with ure views on the chat system cuz mass effect 2 was so easy to get people to like you. This is more realistic cuz u have to think of the charactors persoanlity and then come up with a response.

The recycled areas bugged me, but not as much as the generic return item quests. I found the remains of Sister Someone in a dungeon and returned them to the Chantry. Hawke asked the NPC "did you lose this?", the guy answered "I was wondering where I had put that" (paraphrasing). The Chantry really respect their people...
Combat reminded me of Serious Sam. Every combat in the game, no matter how small the quest, had multiple waves. Even when you were supposed to surprise someone they had a gang of people waiting in the wings.
No matter how much I knew about the friendship/rivalry system my brain wouldn't fathom how it works. It's very counter-intuitive that people who disapprove of your every action would be loyal to you in the end. And apparently they don't talk to each other during the entire 10 years. For example, as long as I don't bring Anders with me when I do it he doesn't care if I give every mage in Kirkwall to the templars (or just kill them).
Maybe it was my own fault, but when I learned that you could become Viscount I expected that there would be more to this game than just wading through waves of enemies. I did my best to befriend Aveline (even though my Hawke didn't care about the law) just so I could have the captain of the guard on my side as ruler. I helped Magistrate Vanard cover up his son's secret to gain an influentiual ally. I tried getting my mother to remarry in the hope that her suitor was powerful. None of these things mattered in the end because the game went in a whole different direction.
I don't care at all about combat or strategy, only about story, quests and the ability to influence the world. For me this game was a letdown and the last time I preordered a Bioware game, no matter how many dlcs they offer as an incentive.

6,5 or 7 out of 10.
It's not as bad as some say and it's not as good as some say. It's a ok game but below BW standard in my opinion.
I give it about 7/10 at the most,PC Gamers rating is a joke,DAO was a game I could not put down, however I'm sad to say I can only play DA2 few hours max at a time, lets hope DA3 is better and they actually deliver something thats worthy of 9/10 rating.

Likes:
Dynamic personality system - which was only possible with a voiced character
Combat speed improvements, not as awkward
Difficulty of Nightmare is nice and challenging, while Normal lets more casual players to go through the game w/o feeling frustrated.
Better boss fights, less tank and spank more moving around.
A more personal story that allows us to focus on the lore and the depth of Kirkwall rather then have it spread out and unfocused. Sadly, this focus had some bad repercussions mostly with the re-use of areas and the same environments over and over again.
Good storytelling, much more personal and emotional
Nice enemy variety.
The decisions in DA2. Oh my god the decisions. I love them and how they were done.
Good soundtrack.
Nice crafting system, not tedious at all.
Friendship/Rivalry system
Neutral:
Companion Armors - its a love/hate relationship. I like the fact that the companions don't have to look ugly, but I feel restricted in customizing them.
Being restricted to a human. (I don't really care that I play a human or an elf or a dwarf, but I kind of liked the fact I had the choice to play them, but the restriction as a human allowed better storytelling in my opinion, the trade offs sigh)
Dislikes:
Recycled environments.
Removal of features like armor penetration and other combat features that added depth to combat (not really saying DA2's combat isn't deep, but it is simplified and is only harder and requires more tactical thinking because of the more variations of enemies and waves...)
Bosses have too much HP and once you figure out the pattern can be very easy... Still better than tank and spank, but there are no surprises once you figure them out.

I really hate that you can't buy games blind anymore. BW used to stand for quality and value, now I have to read reviews, play demo's,. etc before I buy a game. Same happened with CiV. Would not have bought this game and actually I haven't
