Generally I like this game, can't give a full assessment as I just finished the Deep Roads, but so far the game is great.

Pros
1. Combat is much more engaging on the 360.
2. Companion Interaction is way improved. Find me one person who didn't at least laugh once at some of the things said.
3. An evolving story that made me question ethics and rights, not just a story where you are out to crush the Big Bad.
4. Unique Companion Models: I am willing to trade equipping armor to my companions since we get better looking characters as a result. Also lets be serious every armor looked the same in DA:O, just varitation on colors (every leather armor was blue or brown). However I would like at least a second outfit to choose from if you unlock their friendship, and maybe even a different version if you obtain rivalry.
5. At the end of the game I felt like I was setting a new path for Thedas just not saving it from destruction. BioWare this gives you tough project trying to tailor the story to as epic for all sides (people chose)
6. This is the first game that impacted my decisions in game based on an attachment to a virtual family. Seriously I replayed a whole entire quest for Bethany (you all should knows which one). My end game decision was again affected by Bethany. I also grew atttached to Leandra and even Uncle Gamlen. Massive Kudos for getting me to feel for a game. I really hope the family element carries over to the next game (if applicable for some people)
Quests: So so many quests.
Cameos from Origins: I like them and want more of therm.

Cons
1.The Maps: I get short dev period but a little more variety would have been welcome. Overall I didn't mind it too much.
2.Some Quests: I felt a few quests could have been fleshed out a little more. One quest springs to mind one that involves a cheating dwarf yeah there weren't any consequences there. Also I would have liked to lead a certain heir to the throne to reclaim it, but no that option was not available.
3. Why was everyone except one or two mages practicing blood magic?

Other opinions.
1. Would have liked more history into companions. We got to know Isabela more only if we engaged her as an LI. Let me know their quirks.
2. Where are the weapons that look like a staff with a blade on them? I see in trailer but not in game:(
3. More unique looking armors always appreciated.

I give the game an 8.8 out of 10. Very enjoyable but a little more fleshing out and polishing would have made it stellar.

oh on 2nd act of second play through.

9 out of 10. The things preventing it from being a 10: Not enough interaction with love interest or conversation with companions, recycled maps and limited locations, art style I didn't like on talent/spell icons, endless waves of spawning enemies were a bit much at times, some actions seemed a little over the top.

Well I'm not finished yet, so I can't give it a proper rating. I can give it up to 8.5 so far, tho.

8 to 8.5, the deja vus in all the dungeons was quite an annoyance, it became easy to know where to go and where to find the treasure among other things, but i still liked it and don't feel cheated.

Im noticing that on this forum the 10/10's and 1/10's seem to be mostly gone, meaning those that said it was the worst or best hadnt actually played the game for the most part.

8.5 out of 10 - played around 15 hours so far and even though its not 'really' a direct descendant of DA:O its a great step in the Dragon Age puddle.

I'm not sure why so many people rate it so high for it's story. By Act 3 I'm wondering why Hawke is staying in Kirkwall, if it was my choice I would just leave.
I had low expectations because of the short development time, but it's even worse than I had feared. If this kind of story is the future of Dragon Age then it's a dead franchise for me.
Rather than role playing YOUR character, you're just watching Biowares character. I don't feel immersed at all and at the end I'm wondering WHY I need to "Rise to Power".
I don't mind the Rags to Riches story, but atleast make me feel like I really want to become powerful, if you don't then it's not us who's not ready for your "different" story, it's you who has failed to make an immersive game.

And Mike Laidlaws saying in the below interview that they aim for mor than 9/10. And his defence of the game against the low scores it's recieved is just pathetic.

About a 9, same as Origins. They fixed a lot of things, however, they, imo, waisted time fixing some things that didn't need fixing(they didnt make it worse really, though), while leaving some of the issues I had with Origins in.

Only just up chapter 2 , so not sure how accurate this is as a
reflection of the whole game. Hope this doesn't offended anyone.

Negatives:
> Not enough enviromental objects / people (90% of people which are there can't be selected / have no use)
>The enemy spawning is a little odd at times.
> Dialogue seems to have a little too many sexual references?  o-o
> No item history/descriptions (one of the my personal favourite parts)
> Diffiuclty rearranging equipment as you seem unable to have your characters in your party by your storage.
> Item icons are very generic.

Positives:
> The story is good (have to make aquite a few asumptions tat the start it seems ;])
> Fast comabt is more interesting.
> New intereface is more organised (little bit dark tho ? )
> Immeserive cinematics (few too many in places.)
> Graphical Improvments.
> Better paced Story.
> Good voice overs ,the irish accent for the dalish is great.
> Resouce discovery points , i like this :)
> Improved character designs, ( some a little ambiguious) Flemeth and Merril are fantastic.

7/10 - PC so far  :)

Up there with Origins, if slightly below (which I'd rate 9.5/10 as it was a great game, but not truly perfect).

8.5 solidly. I enjoyed it, thought it was a good game, but never excelled at anything and had some flaws. But it didn't fail at anything, aside from the recycled maps, as it had better combat and much better questing.

I'd give it an 8.5/10.

The improvements to gameplay and UI were great. Crafting in Origins was boring and unnecessary even at Nightmare. From my standpoint, outside of quests that required it, I never bothered with it. The streamlined process in DA:2 actually made it more appealing for me and less of an annoyance. My disappointment was that we couldn't equip our companions with the armour pieces we gained.

I think Bioware took a lot of risks with the storyline and for the most part I enjoyed it. Although I felt there were two plotholes, one minor and one major, that needed to be addressed to better keep within the context of the setting.

A lot of hypervole of those knocking the game seems directed at the companions. In Origins, I felt there were several characters that stood out more (Alistair, Morrigan, Leliana, Sten) than in DA:2 but that there were also quite a few others that were very underwhelming (Shale, Zevran, Oghren, Dog, Wynne) but due to the strength of the first half made the group more memorable. In DA:2 I felt the characters were more fleshed out in terms of having their own goals and aspirations. In Origins, Sten and Morrigan were the only ones that really seemed to have their own ambitions outside of the Warden's. Sure you could say that Zevran wanted to survive the Crows but survival is not what I would call an ambition that puts him above a normal individual. Albeit the situation is more dangerous in Zev's case.

One reviewer I follow had critisized a lot of the sidequests as having "Hawke run chores" for the ancillary companions which I felt was misrepresenting the fact that many of these quests were to pursue and advance the goals of the companions.

Where the weakness lies I think is that one of the companions in particular can be quite self-righteous. Depending on your choice of class at the start of the game you are essentially pigeon-holed into keeping said companion in your party for most of the game to deal with most encounters at the harder difficulties. This leads to a faitgue or antagonistic response to the character and thus the overall gameplay. If another companion could also bring a similar if even lesser skillset to the table I think it would have addressed quite a large number of complaints people have. Going back to Origins, Wynne could have the same effect with her preachiness but at least Morrigan was a more viable option if you couldn't stomach the former.

In general, the graphical updates were welcome and the animators did a good job of making the character models seem more real and natural than in the first game. There was less of the "hidden valley" look on most of the important characters. But the reuse of similar maps for different locations and the blandness or lack of distinctiveness in Kirkwall deterred from the score by .5 in my book.

7/10 AT MOST ... honestly this is the last time ill be preordering a bioware game (i might even go as far as not buying anymore bioware games-which hurts to say, as i have followed this company from baldurs gate days), recycled areas, shallow companions who all seem to want into your pants/knickers, combat that reminds me of diablo/WoW... really cant understand why they called this dragon age 2, first dragon age was an deep crpg, da2 on the other hand seems like it was a "rush it out the door" job (with lots of AWESOME) made to cater to the short attention span among us (they might not actually have noticed the same cave being used from everything from a pirate hideout to a secret templar meeting place.. ill prolly get flamed for this, but i paid good money for it and dont feel im getting what i was expecting (or was lead to believe)

5/10 or 6/10 if I'm being generous.

-The game especially suffers once you go through the game again making different choices and discovering how shallow the illusion of choice and consequence is. Even ignoring the length of DA:O versus DA2, just think about the number of plot flags from the imports. These were decisions made in DA:O that might not have vastly altered the plot, but nevertheless had an effect in DA:O. In DA2, I struggle to think of any meaningful choices that don't end up with exactly the same result.

-The above point isn't stating that I was expecting the plot to massively change- I was simply expecting there to be differing consequences whether in the short or long term. Even if there was no long term change, there are very little things Hawke can do which affect the way scenes play out in the short term. There are perhaps two fights in the game you can talk your way out of, and there are never any alternate solutions to the various quests. Being railroaded isn't a problem if you are at least given some leeway in how you go about accomplishing your goals. This leads directly into characterisation:

-Hawke as a character simply isn't compelling. This is a relatively complex issue and I'm not sure how it would be possible to fix this. There isn't anything wrong with a voiced or fixed character in an RPG, but it still demands the ability for the player to step into the role even if he can't make it his own. Shepherd is a compelling character- he has an established background, he's a career soldier, and the choices he is given reflect that background. Geralt has an established background, and his profession (slaying monsters) is opened up for the player to determine what exactly that means. All his choices stem from his background and imperative, but each choice allows the player to make their own definition. This is true for many other RPG protagonists (The Nameless One, Michael Thornton, etc.). We don't know anything about Hawke, and are constantly told rather than shown elements of his and his family's characterisation. Further, his choices in dialogue are schizophrenic, and rather than presenting any true choices the game mechanisms reinforce a strategy of choosing one of three attitudes for the entire game. The only solution I can think of would have been setting the prologue earlier in time and giving us more dialogue and interaction with Hawke and his family before their flight from Lothering.

-Wildly uneven writing that leads one to think there wasn't enough cohesion among the writing staff as regards to characterisation or pacing. There are moments of real innovation and brilliance that get buried under hours of fanfic/high school level writing. Bioware has shown itself capable of reasonably good writing in many of their other products, and this makes the failures in DA2 more poignant.

-Combat was improved on the player's end, but enemies were almost nondescript. You had either leader/normal/scrub enemies that were either archer/melee/mage/assassin types. They didn't possess different abilities among different types, making every fight regardless of who you were fighting feel the same. The "Boss" battles were definitely a highlight, however.

-The music was decent for what it was, but never really reached the same level of quality as Origins. Its perfectly serviceable but not outstanding in any way.

-The area design seems schizophrenic as well. When entering the deep roads, I couldn't help but think "this is how the deep roads should have looked in Origins". There is some very creative design at work that is a clear step above origins. Unfortunately, these set pieces are few and far between. As many others have stated, the repetition of the same five or so maps throughout the entire game is absolutely shoddy and lazy. There was no artful way to do this, and it begs the question why the internal toolset couldn't have been used to change the overall layout while keeping the same textures/objects.

-Kirkwall as a city is equally compelling and frustrating. There is a good aesthetic, ruined by a city layout that feels ripped from the blocky days of the original NWN campaign design. The history and mystery that should dovetail with the wonderful artistic direction is further undermined by the incredibly shallow and lazy naming conventions. Why not invest the rest of the city with the same level of history and function as used in the Gallows?

Overall, it is a very flawed piece and I've only touched the surface of some of my issues with the game. That being said, it was a serviceable game that was reasonable fun for a little while. It wore out its welcome by the end of the second act- the shoddy third act is probably the weakest all around part of a game Bioware has ever designed. I've finished the game twice now- the second playthrough was done to see if any of my complaints changed while trying out other companions/classes/choices. There is so much potential in this game, but it falls so very short when compared to other recent RPG releases, and Bioware's own back catalog (note that this is not saying I would prefer it to be the same as BG or DA:O- innovation and streamlining can be a very good thing when done well).

So, 5 or 6 out of 10. Fun, but not worth the sixty dollar price point at this time. While I doubt patches and DLC can meaningfully change some of the structural issues with this game, I'll still keep an eye out to see if they can improve it in the coming months.

8/10

Cons:
-Way too much recycled areas.
-Dialogue wheel is fine, but the icons dont really help. Sometimes they even doesnt make sense.
-Not enough interactions with your companions or LI.
-Inventory looks oversimplified. The star system dont help, and there a lot of items with same icon and name with different properties.
-Items dont make a real difference. You have to change them at a certain point, but there isnt the same need as in DAO to improve your equipment.
-In many times my choices dont affect the outcome at all, I understand this can be a need sometimes, but not always.

Pros:
-Great story.
-Hawkes family. Is nice playing a character that have a history.
-I like all the companions, even those I hate.
-Voice acting.
-Companions help in some dialogues
-The dialogues between companions.
-Improved combat. I miss some things but I rather have this fast paced combat.
-No talents. They were almost useless to anyone but rogues in DAO.
-New skill trees.
-New interface

I miss some things from Origins, but I think there is a lot of improvements.

5/10 Really people should not have such high expectations, after playing and seeing for myself I think it's just Bioware cashing in on the name of their game dragon age orgins was much better, but alot of sequels are like that

The way I feel about it, the lack of varied endings paired with the re-use of areas and blandness of Kirkwall as a whole makes DA2 have very little replay value for me.

I feel disconnected from the rest of my party, also.  The limited conversations and limited times/places in which to HAVE these conversations feels like huge step backwards for me.  Part of the appeal of Origins for me was getting to know the people around me so richly and in-depth.  Forming bonds with them felt more important, and felt like it had more impact in Origins.

While I don't completely like the direction the combat has taken, I feel it has improved somewhat from Origins.  I'm glad moving from mob to mob has sped up to this degree.  I don't miss the shuffling at ALL!  However, I was not pleased with the waves of mobs spawning from above.  I personally would have preferred fewer mobs that were more challenging to defeat than the waves that made it feel I was farming kills.

I miss being able to choose every piece of gear for my party members, and the "challenge" of figuring out what suits them best on my own.  The star system in DA2 felt almost insulting to me, as well.  I suppose I just prefer a challenge, if I can even describe picking gear as such.

I don't even understand the added junk loot.  I'd rather have fewer crates and barrels to loot than find sparkly sacks in every room I enter.  I think I would have been satisified with just finding more gear that wasn't usable to sell.

For story, I felt drawn in enough to finish one playthrough so far.  A few story directions I did not like at all, and I felt the ending fell flat, and yet had enough impact for me to want to know what happens next.  Overall I felt it was a decent story, but not up to par with what Bioware has given me up to this point.

What I was hoping for out of DA2 was not what I got; what I got was enjoyable enough, just not worth the emotion I had invested in its release, which I feel is partly to blame for such a huge and immediate backlash of some degree.

So I basically need two separate scales to rate DA2.  To compare it to Origins and to acknowledge it as a  Bioware product, I have to give it a 6 out of 10.  I enjoyed it well enough, but I was hoping and expecting so much more for it to be of the Dragon Age (and Bioware) name.  Coming from Origins to this felt like it was no longer a RPG.  It felt too simple to play, and that's not a reference to combat.

Had it been called something other than Dragon Age 2 and perhaps had nothing to do with it, and not using Origins as a standard to compare it to, I'd give it a 7 out of 10.  If it could escape the Origins bubble, it would feel like a different game, and in that it would be more enjoyable.
