Honestly, you can do without a healer, on Normal. You've even got Life Ward potions now, to replace Revival. But I think the writers wanted most players to at least use Anders part of the time, to get to know him before the finale.

If it hasn't already been done, I'm sure that someone will make a mod that gives Merrill access to the Creation tree, if not making her a spirit healer.

I know i just felt bit like i was stuck with him, seems alot the boss fights can be a nuke race or potion drinking festival without a healer along. I had easy route and was healer - aoe/single dps with main as i wanted to make a mage like in trailer, but i just got annoyed with only being able to use Anders for healing, no offense to him his great character just feel used to having more freedom.

They just did it because if you are not a mage then you are force to take Anders with you in the end. It really kills the "RP" aspect for me as any class but mage.

I even wished that Qunari Mage I guarded for a certain quest would join me, no such luck, the idiot had to go and burn himself to death.

I was also wondering if I could join forces with the Qunari when they try to take over the city ... though that might not be logical as mages and Qunari usually don't work well together ...

Yeah apart from going mage yourself there is no choice when you are looking for a healer. I am on my 2nd playthrough atm. Went mage this time ... gonna try to get Anders to rival and join the templars on the final fight ... if that is possible ...

Just ask the qunari mage who burned himself to death.

Well, ive been asking myself why is it less you make a mage, Anders basically only healer option in game, Merill can't learn healing spells it seems, and Bethany is stripped away early in game to go train at the circle. I feel like its kinda lame as it really limit you gameplay exsperience, i realise Anders play a major role in DA2 but does it mean he has to be only healer option there? What do everyone else think?
Yes, this annoys me. Then I discovered Restoration potions:
80% health
60% stamina/mana
30 second cool down
They're actually better than the mage's healing spells. Since you can have Bethany until the end of Act 1, you don't need to worry about their price as by Act 2, you have enough coin to buy them in bucketfulls.
Origins had two healers.UltiPup wrote...
You act like Origins didn't have exactly one healer.

No problem for me, no healer really isn't that bad, on hard anyways. Actually I ran without a tank & healer most of the game.
Same, well... Fenris and Warrior Hawke, even though 2h, can pretty much double as tanks more often than not. Healer can generally be substituted for potions though--still, it'd be nice to at least have another healer option aside from freaggin Anders. I can't stand him, and he only proves he's a bastard as the game progresses.

I don't really care though. Just roll a MaleHawke and get a beard. Basically makes him impervious to death.

Frankly that's frustrating in of itself.
I shouldn't have to use Isabela to have a dual wielding rogue that's not the PC in the party.

Really I only have one option for a 2HD
warrior and that's Fen because Carver bounces after act 1, If you don't
have Seb you have one archer which is Varric, One DW rogue which is
Isabela. Most of the choices are restricted.

I agree they need to come out with a FREE DLC or I pray to Andrastes teets someone makes a mod to fix the pigeon holing.
Face it folks this game's suppoused 'freedom,' in class building is an illusion.
Save character specilizations, which the majority just sucks I'd like for all the characters to be able to choose a specilization like Hawke... hell like Dragon Age Origins.
Anyways if BIOWARE is smare they'll realize this, if not then oh well. Still a good game.
