I was frustrated until I tried playing without one and realized ... healers actually made it harder to play! My only frustration was not being able to revive people so easily, which is true even with Anders in the party, because he needs to know certain abilities, activate a sustained mode ...

I agree with whoever said having Merril instead of Anders was as breezy, if not breezier.

Really I only have one option for a 2HD warrior and that's Fen because Carver bounces after act 1, If you don't have Seb you have one archer which is Varric, One DW rogue which is Isabela. Most of the choices are restricted.

Frankly that's frustrating in of itself.

I shouldn't have to use Isabela to have a dual wielding rogue that's not the PC in the party.

The complaint isn't lack of mage choices. It's healer choices.

DPS? Crowd Control? Tanking? Can be done by more than one character. Healing? A single character.

Ah I see the point. Slightly irritating but potions and vials are there for a reason.

Game might be too trivial if you can have more than two healers in a party.

I would have preferred another sword & board character over another archer, to be honest.

I just took points in spirit healer. Easier to do it myself then to rely on anders ;p I actually send anders down the Justice path most of the time. I give him enough spells in life so he can cast haste, and then I just 4 dps my way to victory with just enough points in spirit healer to res and group heal should I actually need it. But then, I'm a mage ;x

I agree with the lack of healers in the game.

After my sister was removed i had nobody to heal so i was very upset with the way the game was done.

I think Anders is one of the worst characters ever made so i will not use him in my team so basically we are left with only one option unless we play as a mage.

Very disappointed with the forced character selections in the game, it's as if Bioware is trying to tell me how i should play my games.

Well, most characters in RPGs where you don't create your whole group yourself seem to have a predefined ocupation. Sometimes you can avert this because talents have certain "pools", e.g. every mage could learn every available spell.
But in this game it isn't possible, so this is rather sad. And the need to take Anders with you unless you play a healer yourself is again a matter of personal preference, although it does limit your options when you want to encounter harder fights. If you like him, it's good, if you don't, it's bad. But having only one choice may have been a story decision.
Personally, I have no problems with it.

Well, the only healer in DAO was Wynne unless you played a mage or destroyed Morrigan's battle skills, so I don't see the problem XD Use potions!

You act like Origins didn't have exactly one healer.

 Origins had at least two companions that could heal, you got Morrigan really early on in the game and you could spec her into spirit healer and level 14 so she was a perfectly viable healer.

As far as there being only one companion that can heal in DA2, it annoyed me too but then I realized that it's not that necessary to have a healer, just make sure to manage your potions well and use as much CC as possible, plus with Mythal's favor you can even res your fallen companions ;)

Just having the heal spell in DAO was enough.

But once Bethany leaves, or your Hawke isnt a mage, there is only Anders that can have any sort of heal spell or the creation tree.

Thats the issue, and i agree its frustrating. Though i do rely more on potions, crowd control and damage rather than the healing spell. But i would like Merrill to get the paralyze glyph.

I made anders stay in vengeance mode and gave him primal spells, he is so much better with vengeance on, cos you can spam martyr for shorter cooldowns

I hated it too atleast in origins you could make both Wynne and Morrigan healers but in this game one of your healers, who can only learn one healing ability, disappears for over an entire act or dies. Which leaves you with Anders as the only potential permanent healer.

i think they want you to rely less on healing and more on out damaging your opponents.

I so can't stand this guy so much that for the first time doing an RPG I'm playing without a healer.  Sure, it's possible, stocking up on potions, high dps -- but it is certanly irritating. Almost stopped me from playing the game since I wanted a different experience other than a mage and this irritating ***** Anders made the whole experience a constant agrivation. I want to kill him and let my Mabari eat his liver. I sure wish bioware would fix this.

This would be my experience. I'll probably use the mod that makes Merrill a healer when I next play.

It doesn't just make Merrill a healer. It makes Aveline a 2h warrior, Isabela an archer, etc. All skills for all, yay!

I will admit the only reason I had Anders with half the time was for healing. If Merrill could have healed he'd be pretty much in the broom closet storage. Heck he really contributed nothing to damage anyway. I had his tactics set up so all he did was stay in Pancea mode and heal.

Well, you don't HAVE to put points in those trees. Just saying, you can make Fenris W&S if you want to :D

Yea, I kept Anders in my party the whole first playthrough I did, and I was romancing him, so that was fine. Now I want to replay with a rogue, and use party members I didn't keep around as much - so I'm kind of annoyed that it seems like I will still have to bring him with me a lot. sigh.

Yes, I dislike Anders. I resorted to playing the healer my self by going into healing mode when required. Nightmare as is is not doable without one. Thankfully I found mods to add in the missing skill trees in all companions so Merrill can be my cuddly blood mage healer.
