If you select mind blast then one of the peripheral talents (arcane shield, elemental weapons...etc) and crushing prison + upgrade, you can then take away the peripheral talent.  this results in gaining paralyzing prison with 3 total talent points instead of 4 (3 prerequisite).

Am I just sleep deprived or is this a bug or exploit?  -_-

edit:  only works with paralyzing upgrade

Correction this only works with paralyzing prison selected, so "paralyzing prison with 3 talent points"

Basically paralyzing prison upgrade counts as one of the two prerequisite magic talents to obtain crushing prison.

Kind of like a circular time paradox, the universe will now fall apart unless I apply the Novikov self-consistency principle. :P

Do you mean to say that you are getting a free talent?

Are you playing on PC or console?

PC and not exactly. If you are only going to want mindblast (no upgrade) and paralyzing prison then yes. This is only after drinking the Maker's Sigh potion (i.e. you have all talents at your disposal)

I'll try this to see if it is repeatable.

Can you confirm the 4 talents you selected and the order you clicked on them?

This is a bug with Maker's Sigh.

there's a LOT of bugs with the maker's sight potions. i ended up with 4 specialization points and 4 free points in reaver on my 2h warrior.. granted, i was going to put those points in anyway, but the bonus helped me dig a little deeper into the tree and appreciate it even more.

Do you mean that after you drank the maker's sigh, your warrior had 4 free reaver talents already activated before you started spending points?

Or just that you ended up with 4 extra talent points that you could have spent on anything?

the points were already in the tree, and i also had 4 specialization points. i have NO clue how it happened.. i read something about an exploit to get the stat/skill points from a potion by reloading a save right after you allocate the points from a potion, and i guess i may have done that without even noticing/thinking about it too much? i don't know, i'm noticing it a lot on the X360, i'll use a sigh potion, and have points that i'd previously spent on a tree back without spending them again on the re-allocation. I'm beginning to think that the additional points from the tomes get randomly allocated after you spend them.

You need to save before you use the Maker's breath potions. Once it bugs out once every time you respec you get more and more bonus points.

The only way to fix it is to reload a save before the buggy respec.

yeah, I've been saving every time, but usually find a better combo with my respec, so i stick with it... kind of cheapens my first playthrough now, knowing more or less what was going on... i just stuck to berserker/reaver, and never even put anything into Templar so i wouldn't *completely* break the game in that respect.. still, having too many skill points hurts my heart a little..

I got some free talents with my respec as well... I think it was Anders who got some free elemental stuff even though I moved him over to other trees.

It's kind of obvious the respec potion was not originally intended to be in the game and was not tested as much.
