Given that they're seem to be a finite number of missions and encounters, how is it possible to ever purchase those store items that are in excess of 100 sovereigns?  Are there repeatables somewhere?  Can you streetsweep at night for an endless supply of thugs?

Use the Fortune runes and fortune bracelets to get more loot I guess

Not sure, but I'm toward the end of Act 3, have bought two Crazy Expensive things so far, and have about 119 gold left.

Do every side quest, explore every part of every cave, go back to areas you've already been when a new act begins, do all of the secret bosses, and use the items that make enemies drop more coin and better loot.

As far as I can tell, that's the only way to get rich. No crafting exploits for infinite money like in Origins.

You'll get enough via drops to create a very formidable party and you should have (provided you're something of a completionist) 250-350 gold near the end of the game. Lower end should you run without the aforementioned drop buff items and higher with them. You'll also fare a little lower if you try to ensure that you're entire party (including inactive members) are well geared. This is my experience and I missed several of the street-sweeping caches from early ignorance of the quest. My first play-through kept the strategy guide closed. If you complete those chains you get some pretty nice items that either enhance your party or bring in some wonderful gold.

Indeed, it's very possible to afford some of the very expensive items but you won't be buying all of them and you kinda need to do everything to be able to afford them and not spend tons of money on other things.

There is a finite amount of coin in the game.

Personally I find it more efficient to budget for appropriate runes for each fight that to try to afford the really expensive items. Most of them (such as the Forgotten King armor in the Black Emporium) don't even have rune slots, making them inferior to other, seemingly less impressive pieces.

Hmm, thats kind of lame. In every rpg game there doesn't have to be some cheap way of amassing gold, but there should always be a place or something you can farm for xp/gold.

You can buy a few maker's sigh potions, then use the item glitch with your personal storage to get 999 of them, then sell 990 for about 106 sovereigns - then rinse and repeat until you're the wealthiest fella (or gal) in Kirkwall

At least, that's what I did. But I'm not above cheating to get the goods.

There is always the item double sell glitch... other than that, gold is indeed dry.

An idea that I had, though haven't tried, to squeeze out a little more money is to sell potions. You have a max potion count, after which you won't get any drops, so if you keep your potion count low you get more, and thus can sell more. They only end up as a few silver, but hey, that's a few silver you didn't have before.

This could probably be very useful if you aren't playing Nightmare, as you have little need of them at all anyways.

Alternative: runscript addmoney 100000.

There is a glitch that works on the xbox I know that also worked on orgins where u take ur most expensive item that sells for the most place it in junk byitself go to vendor go to sell junk and you have to hit y and a at almost the same time have to hit y just before u hit a. Takes some pratice u should basically be selling the item twice then buy item back rinse repeat. A word of warning make sure u buy back ur item before u exit from vendor lost a item doing that this also takes ahwile because so most expensive item iv found only sold for 9gold

You don't need those items to finish the game.

One glitch I came across from a site somewhere, is when you go to turn in a normal quest, like one that doesnt initiate a dialogue or cut scene, making sure you run up to the turn in person with your weapon unsheathed, and just as your character re-sheathes their weapon start repeatedly pushing the X button and you should get coin/xp for every push of the X button.

I did this for a solid 10minutes and got tired but when I decided to stop my toons were already at lvl 30 and I now have 933 sovereigns! and this is before I even did the deep roads quest. So now Im just taking my time on someof the sidequests before I give my 50sovereigns to whats his face.

Hope this helps, if people don't already know this. I will probably do it again later on down the track.

EDIT: Just thought to mention this glitch is for PS3 I'm not sure if it works on xbox or pc.  And I did it again last night now lvl 44 and 1340 sovereigns! Still haven't done deep roads yet lol, just enjoy sidequests a little and maxed out ability charts. Now working on some cool tactic combos

I easily had 250 sovereigns at the end of the game and I did spend money on some equipment, potions.

Slapping Fortune runes into all companion armor til you have access to Runes of Valiance (some time in Act 3) is the best way to accrue extra money throughout the game IMO beyond the obvious complete all quests, loot all mobs, etc.

Each rune from Act 2 onward is roughly 1 extra silver per mob. And I'm pretty sure the runes increase all money drops, as in the 20g~ you get after the Rock Wraith or the gold after the Varterral, etc.

And there are actually two Varterrals in the game, each with a treasure pile.  #2 is in Zevran's quest, so if he died in Origins I don't think you can even do it.  But there's some extra cash for you.

For those just wanting the achievement, you can make a save, sell your expensive equipment till you get the achievement, and then reload.

I got that much without even trying.  I didn't do excessive side quests either.  I guess because i never bought potions (they are for wusses) or any thing else since most of it was worse than what I already had

No cheat method worked for me, 100 gold before the Deep Roads by:
1. careful shopping, armorers buy armor for more than other vendors etc.
2. buying as little as possible
3. selling all "Hawke only" items that don't match what I am doing.. ie 2H swords for Mage Hawke (doh) hey, my companions are on there own since they insist on wearing their own gear anyway.
4. plus coin and better drops accessories
5. doing most side quests and careful searching
6. never, ever selling anything, not even junk to the Black Emporium... that sucker is a cheat!

I don't get it. I search EVERYTHING. I don't buy all kinds of random stuff. I do buy all tomes for myself, as well as backpacks and armor upgrades for my 3 main party members.

But I do not have anywhere near the amount that some people claim to have.

Then again I also think some people are flat out lying about it. I've seen claims of earning over 500 gold. Perhaps by cheating/exploiting yes. But otherwise I'd like the know where the secret stash of gold is.

One last thing. Man does it feel silly to kill a dragon or other huge boss and then they drop 20-30 silver. That's not a proper reward!

Edit: Good tips LeonBrass. I never noticed the prices varied from vendor to vendor. That might actually help me a bit.

One tactic I've been experimenting with is the constant selling of the four basic potions.

The droprate of Health Potions, Lyrium Potions, Stamina Draughts, and Injury Kits is directly related to the amount of them in your inventory. I believe the droprate is nearly 100% if you have 0 in you inventory, which scales down to 0% at around the 8 potion mark. I will mention I do believe there's a few enemies which have guaranteed potion drops, usually prior to boss encounters, so there'll be times where you exceed the 8 potion mark. Additionally, I believe Lyrium, Injury, and Stamina pots cap at 6 naturally.

Selling a full "set" of potions nets around 1g, and will replenish in 2-3 skirmishes.

However, the factor that I'm not sure on is whether or not potions replace equipment or junk or both on the loot table. It's obviously better to get potions in lieu of (most) junk but most equipment sells for more than 4s a pop.

After going through Act 1 just recently doing this strategy, I had accrued somewhere around 165g in total after the Deep Roads.
