Is it wrong to want to give Merriel a serious beating?

... and the dining room table, the kitchen counter top, the tub, and maybe the bed, if I was feeling cliched.

I couldn't grasp why she was trying to kill everyone with that mirror the whole game, knowing full well the thing was evil. But she still somehow ended up being my fav character right under varric.
An Eluvian isn't enheritly evil, they were crafted by elves and then this one was corrupted by the darkspawn taint.
She's naive as heck, but not evil.
I found her both sweet and funny.

I was into her until I recognised who was voicing her. Eve Myles. Now, I don't have anything against her, but I loathe her Torchwood character and then I just couldn't get it out of my head. Add to that Merrill's constant moping and übercuteness & by the end she felt sickening.
Funny. The fact it was Eve Myles was the reason I loved her instantly.
Of course I also wanted to berate her for being so foolishly BLIND in regard to the consequences of her actions, but my first Hawke was always the peacemaker, so I didn't. Eventually I'll play someone who draws a hard and fast line at blood magic, and I imagine my rivalry with her will build really quickly.

Indeed, or if you take her back to speak with the craftsman at the Dalish camp. Her naïveté, it would seem, is at least partially sarcastic.MasterSamson88 wrote...
I'm sort of surprised by all these folks saying she's an idiot. If you listen to some of the banter between her and Anders it becomes pretty clear that she's got a fair idea of what she's doing.

True. She isn't ignorant. What she is is a fool. She's doing it anyway, sure she can prove everyone wrong. She'd have been helpless against the Eluvian's demon, if she's fixed the mirror. Any demon of pride would have discovered a great big open door to walk through in order to eat her soul.
That isn't even why she made me sigh and facepalm in frustration, though. She was willing to pay that price, you see, if it would help her people. That can be respected. It is that she ignored, or was incapable of realizing, that she couldn't gaurantee that she's be the one to pay the price. The reality of blood magic, which this game does an excellent job of demonstarting, is that eventually it harms everyone in the vicinity, not just the user. Merrill couldn't ever see that, untill the end.
However! The fact that her story happens the way it does is one of the reasons it's so good. Tragic figures are as necessary in stories as heroic and comedic ones.

While I would never think of beating Merrill, I wouldn't mind roughing up the uncle.
I would like to slap Gamlen, Carver and especially Fenris (so that he comes to his senses again ... I, as a mage, help him in everything he does and still the rivalry grows and grows, just because I don't kill any mage at sight ... stubborn little emo-elf -.-)

Agreed, espicially Fenris. I've been super nice to him all the time and even flirted with him but just bacause I always side with the mages were rivals! How does that work?
And also NO! Would you kick a puppy in the face? Merril is so cute and adorable and she has by far some of the best party banter.

She was cute, but she was so god damn stupid.
No Merrill, we can't go frolic with the demon, he doesn't want to frolic Merrill... he wants to consume your soul and use your body to leave the fade. Yes that's bad. Yes I know he said he won't, he's a demon. You honestly think he's going to tell you if he was planning to do those horrible things? Oh look you went and did it anyway. What do you mean why did I smack you with that sword? you were going to be possessed. Yes I bet it did hurt, but I hope you've learned your lesson. Being an abomination is like that but with your blood on fire all the time. Anders told you that too. I know you're sorry, don't do it again.
WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN YOU WANT TO DO IT AGAIN!? Ughhh god damn it Merrill...
THIS! THISTHISTHIS times a million.
Demons are BAAAAAAD, quit hating me for not liking them!
Sometimes I just want to put her in a box with Fenris, leave for an hour, and see which one survives.

Her quests and romance are so bloody bugged in Act 2 and 3. A complete killjoy.
That deserves some buttkicking for goodness.
