One thing to remember among all this criticism is that DA:O had legions of complaints about bugs and DLC problems and generally over not being Baldur's bloody Gate when it came out, it's only with the release of DA2 that Origins got the rose-tinted treatment and became the second coming of Christ so people would have something to scream about.

I played through Origins right before (in fact I was in Awakening when DA2 released) so.. I have played through DA:O a number of times, with pauses and without pauses and I did it right before DA2. DA:O on the latest playthroughs has been a little rough on me in the start of the adventure.. but once passing the fade I am as sucked into the game as ever (I do fade immediately after lothering)

in DA2 I can't get passed beginning of Act 2.

I see myself perfectly entiteld to complain about everything that made me not beeing able to continue in DA2. It is not like I wanted to dislike it... I would be rather stupid to spend money on something I want to dislike. I should however have read more about the game before preordering it .. instead of thinking that it would be like DA:O just a different story, different culture (read graphics) and some gameplay changes like the difference between ME and ME2...But things like if I had known that Kirkwall would be the only location in the game I would NEVER have bought it or the reusing of maps, or the fact that it is not an Epic Fantasy story to me etc..

This IS a different game than DA:O .. like miles away. I would consider the second game in a series would be at least true to it's origin. This was not the case and the path they have choosen with DA2 is not the type of games I want to play or like.. this makes me angry on myself that I fell for the "fanlol" and bought the game without a second thought. The game might be good or even fantastic to those who likes this type of whatever game it is. But to me it is a horrible game that I wouldn't have bought if DA:O had never existed just like I havn't bought or tested God of War or Pokemon or Crysis or Call of Duty (1,2,3,4,5,,6.. or how many they are up in now) or Batman Arkham City (?).

This is my guess why people are angry. At least that is why I am angry. It is not really Biowares fault.. it is my own fault and it is me that I am angry on... just like I would be pissed of if I had a sport car and bought another sport car of the same brand and series..just newer.. just to find out they made it a jeep once I recieved it because they wanted to cater to a different audiance. They had probably written it somewhere, just that I didnt check it up closer. Well.. won't do the same mistake twice :)

EDIT: IMO .. it was either a Dragon Age: The Champion ... or Dragon Age 1 title... it should not have gone by the name Dragon Age 2.. indicating that Dragon Age: Origins was Dragon Age 1. They didnt make Star Wars Episode V a drama set in the desert on earth when Star Wars Episode IV was a si fic set in space. Although I bet even if they would have done that there would have been fans saying dooh obvisouly it is the same the second once does not have to be the same as first =) I agree with that.. but I do not like big changes that changes the soul of it into a new soul. That makes the games completely different. Like saying Mario Kart is Super Mario 5... :S The fact that elves looks like pale char from Avatar really was a kick in the groin for me, Like changing chewbacca into a robot... and I do not even like Star Wars! :D

I figure you have heard enough of the interwebs bitter vitrol and could hear good stuffs too. Not all anonymous posters feel the need to turn into turdburglers on escape from blame.

It's kind of you to stick up for the developers but this probably isn't the right thread and your choice of language is a little antagonistic - the majority of people posting here are taking the time to do so because they want to help the devs address issues brought up by customers across the web, that's what constructive criticism is all about.

Agreed on the Anders snog though - that was good stuff :)

+1 On the reused locations. Throughout the 1st & half way in the 2nd Act i was feeling really gutted about walking around the same brown tunnels and seeing the same Dalish camp on sundermount. I think i was just waiting to go past sundermount to another locale or anything (considering its pretty much the first quest you get) but alas no. It dawned on me that i was stuck in Kirkwall and had 3/4 locations out side of it which for me made it seem very small, and almost boring. Don't get me wrong once i had gotten over the shock and continued playing i enjoyed it, but not being able to actually go any where was a killer. In Origins & Awakening the other areas probably weren't as different in size as in DA2, but the fact that you went some where else for a few quests at a time (such as the woods for the Dalish/werewolf quests or Orzamar(sp?) and along the deep roads) was refreshing. By the time you were sick of wondering the forests or chopping your way through countless darkspawn underground you could go somewhere else. In DA2 however if you felt tired of walking in the brown tunnels of darktown or walking around the same bit of the wounded coast there was no where else to go, you had to continue walking through the same environments for 30+hrs (i pretty much did every quest) and this saddend me. Overall i loved the game once i got into it, if i hadn't played DA:O it perhaps wouldn't have bothered me as such, it just really wasn't what i was expecting from the company that got me into RPG's years ago. So for DLC, let me go outside please...... :D

i will add to this by saying that the game is good, but its not on DAO's level. Heres some crit.

Why cant we travel by foot or by boat to other cities and areas in the game world? Why cant we go to Par Vollen to do qunari related missions then travel back to kirkwall or other cities in the game world. Isabella is a captain of a ship but there is no time when this can be used. Why?. Id love to be in Orlais then Starkhaven, Kirkwall or Par Vollen. It adds more immersion because it feels like your actually in a world, not one city.

no re-used maps and more out of city maps. The maps are beautiful but theres not enough variation. Re-using maps just seems lazy.

Let us chose companion armor again. If the reason this was removed was to allow the game to be easier for new players to join, then they shouldnt be playing an rpg game like this, in my opinon. Although i realise that sales are important so if this has to be done to appeal to a wider audience then fine but include an option to turn pre-determined armors on or off.

More armor sets like DAO, 3 per class is terrible. It does add to the rare feel but again there just isnt enough variation. A big part of RPG's is collecting items, why do i want 15 superior plate armors but only 3 full sets.

Junk Items!? Why?, just get creatures to drop the money instead. Unless things like broken swords, torn trousers can be crafted with other items to make changes to armor or new armor. Which would be a very nice feature. Could take the broken sword/ripped trousers to a smith, add a rune and some other items and bingo. Could find blueprints for armor and weapons just like you do with potion recipes.

Enemy Spawning has to change, the dropping out the sky and randomly appearing is so lame. It feels unrealistic which again, takes away from the immersion which is proberly the most important part of any RPG

Less blood splatter unless its from a realistic weapon/situation. Stabbing someone in the back doesnt cause an explosion of blood and guts. Stabbing will cause more blood than a maul etc.

Let us use duel wield warriors again

Let us speak to companions anywhere again. I dont want to travel to a different location to enter a conversation with someone who is already in my party. Lets say im in hightown, merril is with me but i have to travel to her house in lowtown before i can speak to her. Its abit weird and again a bit unrealistic. Its fine to have houses for the player and companions, infact its good addition but not being able to talk to companions outside of those areas is not.

Bring back different races, id love to plays as an elf again, or a dwarf etc. Id like to play as a qunari aswell.

Bring back the origins storylines. It adds variation and will add to the replayability of a game like this. I liked being able to chose a different origin on each playthrough.

Summary:

Overall the game is very good but its not on par with DAO - its kinda got that hollywood movie sequel feel to it where the original is much better than the sequel. Mass Effect was brilliant but Mass Effect 2 expanded on that and was just as good if not better, in my opinon. Dragon Age is another story though. I enjoyed DA2 but it was still disappointing. The Housing/Family thing is really good, the combat system and the crafting system is good. Add that to DAO with world travel and you have an amazing game.
.
P.s - Please release a Qunari companion as DLC. Let him be available for the whole game, he could be defect that decides the qunaris attacks are wrong and helps you.

I made a write-up about how DA2 is difficult to get into and giving false and bad first impressions in this thread here =) I hope it isn't considered cross-posting that I'm pasting the link here, merely wanted fan feedback in the thread while this is for BioWare.

I would like to add something that I really think Dragon Age 2 did well, and something that I also hope the developers can learn from!

Overall, I enjoyed the quests (side-quests, in particular) in Dragon Age 2.

There was one side-quest that really stood out, and is also the most fun I've had in a video game (so far!).
I don't think I stopped smiling/laughing when doing this quest. Without spoling, it's the quest chain that involves Aveline and Donnic. After I finished it I had to reload to an earlier save to show my girlfriend why I had been laughing for the past ~20 minutes. The writing there was spot on, and the facial expressions, just simply, fantastic.

I hope there will be more of these moments in future Bioware games.

Wow must of missed that.I was too busy playing the game.Since it was so much better than DA2 to me.DA2 is ok but that is it.I am sure there was criticism but that is peoples right.Feedback is important for the Devs.If it goes beyond forum guildlines I am sure mods will step in.Just a note:It seems some of those complaining about people complaining bring up the bg thing as well as nerds...blah blah. Those talking points really dont wash.

My opinion on this game, is that this game is a really improvement in combat system (at least for ps3) and i really like the characters movement. Maybe there is a few things that was left on origins that could be on DA2, but my overral is that DA2 is better than DAorigins. That's my opinion, and i'm allready waiting for DA3.

Where's the wonder, the surprise, the "yikes", the awe, the sense of accomplishment that I felt with DA-O? I'm two-thirds of the way through DA2 and have yet to feel the presence of my companions, my sense of who I am and what I'm doing, or the immersion that was so available in DA-O. Sequels are always hard, but for me, DA 2 is a pale, somewhat sad, follow on to a game I loved.

There are some notably funny "ahah's - if you're a fan of British films, to hear the phrase, "I saw something nasty in the wood shed" is a complete delight, but has nothing to do with the game.

I'm disappointed, feeling somewhat empty, mad about the lost potential, and looking around for something else to play. I agree with the positive comments about facial animation, some of the glib side quests - but those aren't why I game.

I'm sure I'll finish the game, but I doubt I'll play it through again. There's nothing to pull me into it. No place to explore, no exhilarating fights I want to try and do better, no storyline that I want to try out differently to see what happens. No addictive quality. The developers somehow missed out on giving DA-2 a soul. I know that's an odd thing to say about a game.

I agree with all JimReaperROK's specific comments - and with many of the other more detailed posts that comment on game play, lack of environments. Good forum.

Well if you liked the game more power to you.I have never used a console so I have no idea how DAO played for those that own one.To me it was a much better game.DA2 the storyline had alot of holes. As far as the combat in some ways it seemed a little odd.Maybe because I was use to DAO and other games.I going wait and not pre order again. Not even ME3.Could be they are the best games to ever come out.Still I'll wait to see the direction they take.

I would never play an RPG myself on a console asking for trouble, I never had issues running DA:O or DA:2, glitches or other wise (beside the huge memory leak on DA:O) on PC.   Have to admit I'm a bit excited for ME3 but scared at the same time, loved ME to a much lesser extent ME2, interested to see how they put them together.

Slower paced combat in DA:O was a huge bit more appealing to me as well, made me feel more immersed in the tatical aspects of the genre and faster paced doesn't fit well with the genre. :(

1. I would like auto attack, which is one of the main reasons I loved DAO. I'm on the ps3 and the button mashing is killing me! I have carpal tunnel and this has made the game extreemely difficult to play for me.

2. It would be nice to be able to talk to your companions more often. It just doesn't make sense to me that once you're in a relationship, that's it. You can't break up, you're stuck with them? I would think that I should be able to go to their house at any time before the final battle and dump them if I had changed my mind. Also, wouldn't it make more sense from a rpg perspective that when a certain family member dies, that more of your friends might want to talk to you about it or you talk to them? I'd rather have less companion quests, which seemed a bit tedious to me, and replace those with more companion discussions.

I love both DA games. I'm on my third time through DA2. I don't like the huge two-handed weapons, and I use sword and shield (currenly using a warrior) simply because of that. The large two-handed weapons look silly. A realisitic-sized two-handed sword is impressive enough.  Anyone who has played Medieval II: Total War probably remembers what the Zweihanders, Forlorn Hope, and Dismounted Gothic Knights looked like--they were very cool and realistic looking at the same time.  Same with Norse axeman and Varangian Guard (using two-handed axes).  So, two-handed weapons don't have to look freakishly big (like the swords you see in anime-style games sometimes--ridiculous) to be cool. It's an aesthetic thing, but it's one of my few criticisms. I guess I also thought some of the damage was strange. Bows doing so much damage, and swords doing so little in comparison. I guess maybe it works out in the actual gameplay, but it seemed strange when looking at stats. Oh, and I got very tired of how often enemies were exploding into pieces. And how much blood can a body hold? Maybe an ogre using a club could smash someone into pieces, but my fighter using a shield? Even an ogre probably wouldn't smash someone into pieces; if one remembers the cave troll in the Fellowship of the Ring movie, that was a cool scene without needing to have bodies splattering into pieces. I'm not blood squeamish at all, but it feels like a cartoon when it's too unrealistic.  A little exaggeration is fine, but too much and it becomes unintentionally funny.  I much preferred sometimes how it looked when I knocked a guy back and he staggered, or I knocked him down.  Smashing them into pieces and it doesn't look like hitting a body with bones, but a body-shaped baloon filled with blood.  Anyway, it is a game, and I look forward to future DLC and more DA games.

My main gripes are the animation speed. A 2 handed sword should feel heavy when it hits. You don't go swinging one around like a lightsabre. Watch the 2handed attack animations. They aren't even using 2 hands. They are still holding it one handed.
Some of the weapon sizes need to be re-scaled. This isn't a japanese RPG. Some of the 2-handed weapons on Fenris' back looked so ridiculously large I didn't use them, even if it was a better weapon.
MORE DIALOG!.. Honestly, I didn't think I would like the voiced player, but it does grow on you. However, make MANY more option on the dialog wheel. There should be no less than 6 ways to respond to someone... 2 "good", 2 "neutral", 2 "evil" choices. I realize that won't be true in all situations, but more choices is far better.
Along those lines I would also like to see more replayability. I probably played origins through from beginning to end about 8 times because I always wanted to see what happens if I did 'so-and-so'. I am having trouble currently started even a 2nd playthrough because it doesn't seem like I really missed much after the first time through. Not being able to choose your race probably contributes to that a lot. Again.... its not so much what changed, but the amount of stuff that was "cut out" to make it simpler that seems to make the biggest complaints from me.
More dialog, and more choices to make it appear that there is more to the game and the world than if I were just sitting down and reading a book.

Since we talk 2-handed Weapons right now:
Is it just me or do these weapons have the lowest DPS of all weapons available?
Sure, 2-handed is slow but it`s still supposed to hit like a truck, right?
Even my mages do more DPS.
Something`s off there

Placing rune/potion/poison recipes as well as crafting materials in missable places really got me. Also having Ambrosia only findable on Isabellas Act 3 quest when its entirely possible for her to leave for good in Act 2 is an annoyance. Having crafting materials and recipes in Hidden but easy to return to places would be a good compromise, i'm sure having missable items was intentional to get people to explore more but its pretty annoying. I'm now replaying the game with a guide open at all times just so I don't miss a thing!

My other main gripes have already been addressed, otherwise good game Bioware!

As much as I've enjoyed Dragon Age 2, I do have a few criticisms, although I think they're probably not going to be anything new:

-Recycled Environments: At first I didn't think it would bother me too much, but fifty to sixty hours into the game and still finding the exact same sewers and caves is a bit of a bummer. It just seems offputting.

-Glitches: There really are a lot of them. It's not as bad as it could be, I suppose, and there are always going to be a few glitches in a game, but major bugs such as the main character permanently attacking in slow motion, the chronological bugs in Merrill's last quest, or the bugs with the respec option really do hamper enjoyment, and make the game feel unfinished.

-Waves of Enemies: It's only really starting to bother me on nightmare, which of course is supposed to be hard, but it just seems to have been done in an ineligant way, with entire crowds of enemies descending from the sky like ninjas. It's weird. Ultimately not a gamebreaker, but a bit jarring. It also makes keeping enemies away from your mages a lot more difficult, and leads to a lot of encounters where I just lure them out of the room, away from reinforcements. Maybe that's how I'm supposed to play it, I dunno.

-Darkspawn Redesign: Ultimately a personal preference issue. But they look a little silly to me. I still prefer the Disciples from Awakening as the best Darkspawn design you guys have done.

-Camera on the PC: I was open to the idea of replacing the tactical camera from Origins. But what we have now just doesn't do the job. It's hard to get a good view of the battlefield or target enemies long distance. If a character is backed into a corner, it's straight up hard to see anything at all. It's just not working for me.

It should be pointed out that I do really enjoy this game, and I think you guys did a lot right with it. I got a lot more invested in the Hawke and his party members than I did the characters from Origins, and that's probably the main thing that makes me think I like this game more than Origins. And I think the game looks very good. The crafting system is also leagues above Origins. I think my favorite thing about the new combat is the impact weapons can have, where weaker characters can be knocked off balance by regular attacks if you aren't careful.

So anyway, sorry for rambling a bit, but I'd say that sums up my thoughts on the game.

Huge Bioware fan... I enjoyed DA2, but it was...disappointing. Here are a few of my criticisms.

1) The recycled environments have been mentioned a million times over, but I hated -- HATED -- the fact that the minimap showed areas that were inaccessible in particular dungeons. This draws further attention to the fact that the areas are recycled, which leads to a break in immersion (coupled with annoyance). Random stone walls blocking doorways? Really?

2) I don't like the fact that I can't look at the descriptions of items before I pick them up. It also doesn't help that almost every single one of them is just called "Belt."

3) Maybe I just have ADD, but at times I felt like there were so many random quests with unremarkable, interchangeable NPCs that at times I would forget who was who or what I was supposed to be doing in this cave in the first place. Plus, there wasn't much incentive for me to undertake these quests since the reward, more often than not, seemed to be a handful of coins and "Belt." Why not throw in something awesome every once in a while as a reward for a particularly difficult sidequest? Maybe I just missed the awesome things somewhere along the way... or overlooked them. It's easy to do when you can't examine the things you pick up without pausing the game and searching for them in your inventory.

4) OK, here's my main issue. I like all the companions (especially Merrill) and I appreciate the focus on making them all individuals with their own strong morals and principles... but I really wanted to talk with them more. I miss hearing Morrigan tell about her stolen mirror and her tentative forays into the civilized world, Leliana's ramblings about Orlesian fashion, Alistair's endearing awkwardness, etc. I didn't like the fact that I couldn't talk to my companions whenever I wished in Awakening, and I like it even less in a full game as opposed to a large expansion. It just feels...unpolished.

I suppose my disappointment in this regard stems from the fact that the main reason I play Bioware games is because I love stories and I love the characters, and thus I hate having my interactions with said characters be so limited. Why couldn't I hug Merrill, tell her I loved her and that it would be okay? Why couldn't I ask Anders more about the Hero of Ferelden's exploits? I find it curious that Hawke wouldn't be at least mildly curious about hearing a few of Anders' stories about the person who managed to raise an army out of nothing and vanquish the Blight, Why couldn't I have a few drinks with Varric at the Hanged Man, as opposed to, more or less, only being allowed to talk with him when he needed something? Am I wrong in thinking that there was much more of this in Origins, in Mass Effect or even in Knights of the Old Republic? It seemed like Canderous NEVER ran out of old war stories.

I may be in the minority in being fixated on these things, I dunno. And I understand why the game is the way it is. But a guy can wish, right?

I do enjoy the game but it does feel more like a console game than PC mostly because of the camera and movement. I like to point and click to move my party an select my targets, but because the camera is locked with no top down view or what feels like ceiling height, it makes it really hard move and select a target when half your party goes through a door and half does not when combat is triggered (or even maneuvering through all the twisting and turning corridors)...or during combat, especially if someone is caught on stairs and the enemy is around and the corner and down...you can't select who you want to attack...your stuck with a random press "r" for nearest enemy...which may not be who you want your party member to engage...aside from that the reused areas are very boring and annoying especially since the map view shows the whole map for that generic location, but you can only access parts of the map for the different scenarios...as a person that likes to completely explore every area I come across I find this pulls me out of the immersion because I am left wondering if I missed something or if there was some secret door or trigger I missed...at the very least the re-used maps should have masked out the areas you could not access.

Combat is awesome very fast paced. Cool downs especially on health potions seems really long and with the limited types of health restoration potions, it seems out of balance with the extended length of most combats with the constant added waves of enemies coming at you.

I do miss the ability to initiate conversation with my companions. It takes me out of the game that they will only talk to me when they have something to say, but I have no investigation into who they are, there is no give and take conversation, no history to explore. I do like the dialog wheel and the fully voiced main character, it's a step up from having to always read what my character is saying, but if I had to choose between more dialog with my companions or a fully voiced main character, I tihnk I would pick more dialog every time.

I like the specialized ability trees for each companion. It really helps each one feel unique and I find myself switching between who I have come with me based on what I am trying to do as opposed to DA:O where I would tend to stick with the same party composition during each run and felt like I had a lot of wasted companions dependent on the type of main character I was playing. I would like to be able to have more armor options to equip on my companions. It kinds of breaks the immersion that over the years, each companions kind of looks exactly the same. As someone already said, I miss all the sets of armor too, but I do like the rating system in the inventory to give me a clue to what I can sell and what I might want to hold on too.

Also I miss the ability to swap out armor and weapon runes...what's with making them destroyed if you replace them?  I can't see the sense in it.

My character is level 16, act 2 i belive, so i have yet to finish the game. By now i should feel a connection to him, i should have a intrest in what happens to him, his friends and the world. I do not. I dont really care about any of them to be honest. When i play RPGs i want to get pulled away into another world, a world that makes me forget about the real one, just for a few hours.

Glorindel709 says it better than me, so let me quote him:
"They were me - I was no longer some guy sitting in his crappy apartment, I was running around Tattooine or questing across Ferelden. The people, my companions, the entire country or galaxy mattered to *me* because *I* was apart of it. In Dragon Age 2, I felt like I was a puppet master controlling my puppet through a shock collar."

Bioware have always been the masters of connecting you to the world, sure there are some other companys out there that do a good job also, but Bioware is the company that sets the high bar that others have to climb over. With this game you crawled under it and in the process probably even knocked it down.

What could have been done to better make the player connect with the world and Hawke..

* Voiced over main character that didnt really say what i wanted to say only made me feel more distanced to him. I understand that it on paper looks really cool to make a game where everyone always have a voice and you dont have to read conversations but in reality it takes away the players imagination that it is him/her that says it. In a RPG imagination play a huge part even in a computer game.

* Interaction with my team of happy helpers. In DAO you could have long conversations with your crew and that helped sell the idea that you were part of the world. In DA2 its almost none exsistent, atleast compared to that game. Lets compare the two ladies i shaged in the games for example. Morrigan, had a personality and a character that i remember and that i could describe. Isabela on the other hand.. is a pirate that i got into bed from clicking 2-3 heart symbols in the conversation wheel. She is a pushover, i know ;)

* Recycled maps. Kills the idea that im in a real world and makes me feel distant to it.

* Its strange to talk about realism in a Fantasy game but when a enemy explode from me hitting him with two knives its kinda over the top. It kills the idea that this is a real world. Fantasy worlds also need to follow some set of rules connected to the real world or it simply get to much and just looks stupid.

One more thing..

* I want to change the armor on my team, did not enjoy the "upgrade" system.

I dont usualy write feedback like this on msg boards, i find that most of the time it only gets flamed and i find it hard to belive that game companys care anyhow. The game is out and its really to late to do anything about it anyhow. But i do hope that Bioware take all the feedback they have gotten to heart and see that maby they need to change some things for their next game. They have made some of the best RPGs out there and they sure can do it again. They just need to restart and rethink their design.

I loved DA2, every moment of it, even when you killed my mother, you jerks.
There are a few things I think would have made it even better, though.

First, companions. I really liked the companions, all of them. But I want more. More conversations, and not necessarily all about deep topics. I'd be happy just have normal old conversations about nothing. You know, like real friends have. There were some nice instances of this, but I'd just love to have more. Perhaps make it so you can only have one such conversation each time you enter their homebase, to prevent us from accidently splurging all their conversation in one sitting (I did it all the time in Origins, and while enjoyable it wasn't exactly realistic). It'd be nice encouragement to roam around the city with normal, visitng friends objectives.

Second, the music. I liked the music, it really worked with the feel of DA2. It was much less subdued than the triumphant Origins epic music, and fit the story of DA2, which was about the build up of tensions, not the triumph over them. However, I think DA2 would have been benefited by having music more like we heard in the Destiny trailer, especially during combat and whenever Varric started embelishing. Having the guitar randomly chime in with the more traditional fantasy epic music definitely would have made me feel more legendary (and embelished upon. C'mon Varric, everyone knows electric guitars weren't invented until after the Champion left Kirkwall), and the new pace of combat is certainly appropriate for the guitar-enhanced music in Destiny. There is no reason the combat music can't be incredibly epic, in fact other than when Hawke is saying anything to anyone, combat is the most badass part of the game. The music should match the fact that I just started raining down a firestorm on top of my enemies or jumped forward and cut eight darkspawn in half with a blade bigger than my tallest elf friends. I also think it'd be a nice touch to pause the music when you pause the game. That way I'd feel more like time has stopped, and it'd be that much more awesome when the epic music returns with the epic combo I've just racked up while paused.

I suppose I wouldn't mind seeing less re-used maps, and perhaps some more obvious changes to the environments as time goes on. However, I was quite satisfied with the environments. They were in no way a dissappointment. And contrary to what everyone is whining about, walking through the same cave didn't detract from my roleplaying experience. I mean, its a cave, not the Grand Cathedral in Val Royeaux. What is there to look at? Honestly, if they were less well lit and the doorways were fully covered people probably wouldn't have noticed the difference.

I would also suggest a little more armor variety. I'm not a dig fan of being a mage in a dress (I found the notorious pirate robes the greatest thing in the world for this reason, thank you for adding that it), and I wouldn't mind more armor on my clothy clothes. The Robes of the Champion had plate on them, Bethany had chainmail on her outfit, I'd say it's reasonable for other mage clothing (especially since the player is going into combat all the time, unlike those dressing wearing circle sissies) to have more armor protection. Also, for warriors I'd like a greater variety of armor types than just platemail. The coolest part of the Champion Armor was the chainmail underneath the plating: I'd love to have more traditional, medieval chainmail options, they look awesome.
Also on the topic of armor, I'd like it if picking up the companion upgrades unlocked costumization options for their armor. That way there can be a bit of variety in their look throughout the game, as opposed to just a sudden switch when you romance them or complete their quest. I also wouldn't mind a sort of upgradable, unlocking armor for the PC (in addition to the current armor system. More option is always better when it comes to equipment). Hawke was always shown with his very distinct champion armor, and I think it'd be cool if that armor was just the clothing he'd always worn, just with more plating and ornamentation tacked on throughout the years. After all, your companions have their prefered style of clothing that they upgrade over the years, why can't Hawke?

Obviously these suggestions are things I'd like to see in DA2, and thus are a bit too late, but I think they can all apply to any future DA installments, or at least are concepts that can be adapted to the circumstance of coming DA games.

Since we talk 2-handed Weapons right now:
Is it just me or do these weapons have the lowest DPS of all weapons available?
Sure, 2-handed is slow but it`s still supposed to hit like a truck, right?
Even my mages do more DPS.
Something`s off there

I've noticed this as well even daggers had higher end damage then two handers.  If you look at the abilities though the multiplier is probably higher then the one handed weapons leaving it still doing more damage regardless. Two handed weapons seem to have more aoe abilities as well.

I agree though two handed even with higher multiplier should still have higher max damage by far over one handed :S

Currently I'm trying out a dual wielding rogue and there are several things that stick out (PC version):

1. If you backstab after the animation is finished you are too far away from your target to continue attacking it, your character just stands there.

2. Shortening distance to your target by jumping in the air like some kind of gravity-defying flea breaks immersion. I'd even prefer the shuffling dance in Origins to this.

3. There should be an option to switch to a bow using a 2nd weapon set toggle as was possible in Origins. I really miss shooting enemies at range and then using dual daggers after closing in.

4. Please bring back stealing and coercion, it's a fun part of playing a rogue. It would also be a good way of avoiding fights should you wish to, there are so many unnecessary fights in DA2 that persuading enemies to walk away would be a nice option. Like with the highwaymen near Lothering in Origins, that was a really nice touch.

5. Traps should be easier to spot from farther away, I usually spot them just as I'm about to step on them. Load game galore.

6. No junk in locked chests please, there should be some reward for bringing a rogue along with high cunning.

I only received my copy on the 21st, and so haven't completed the whole thing yet. It reminds me more of Mass Effect 2 than Dragon Age Origins though. It just lacks the direction that DAO had - what I mean is in Origins you had these four major quests to knock over, then the finale. Along the way there was a bunch of side quests, and if you really didn't want to do them, it was no big deal.
In DA2 what I am finding so far is that I really don't know whether I am working towards the main story arc or some trivial side quest without continually referring to the Journal.
I don't know, maybe after the first playthrough it will become clear, so the second and third runs through are a bit less frenetic.
I am enjoying the game though, which is always a good thing, and (touch wood) no bugs so far.

First thing first - I did enjoy the game, however, some things did really stick out at me....

Reused Maps / Areas : As MANY people have commented on before this was a severe let down. There's only so many times you can pass through an area and be "surprised" by a group of enemies waiting at the top of those stairs, or that Golem just around the corner.

- oh and closing off areas of the maps with stone / un-unlockable doors - absolutely appalling and quite frankly lazy.

- there's only so many times I can go through the same area over an over again, no matter how pretty. Perhaps different weather conditions would help?

- I'd like a wider range of areas... more people to meet and see.

Random encounters- I'd quite like to see the Random encounters back like DA:o - they were good fun and the small and DIFFERENT areas gave some nice variation.

Character Relationships- I'd like to be able to stop and have a chat again please! Not have stock phrases thrown at me!

- Not everyone is bisexual! Is Hawke some kind of sex god / goddess who can romance ANYONE he/she sets his/her mind on? Some of the relationships just JAR when you see the Romance option come up. Bring back the DA:o relationships where you know, NPC characters actually have gender preferences in romance! I'm not hating, I had gay characters in DA:O, what I'm trying to say is... if a female Hawke  hit on me, I'd run a mile... and it feels like the sexual preferences of the characters themselves have been ignored by making them all 4 as receptive as a **** in heat!

In literary theory, there's a concept where characters develop external to the author's wishes, the author could physically write a character to do something but it could be the case that the character wouldn't do it given the choise (if that makes sense, it's hard to explain without looking it up again). This is what it feels like to me; in an effort to be all inclusive, they have disregarded their own character's preferences.

Yay to Sebastian in this respect! But boo for the lack of depth ><;

I want to be able to learn more about the characters please in their own words, not through a codex entry!

Also my dwarfy passions have been thwarted! Why make a sexy smooth talking dwarf and not let us run our fingers through his chest hair!!??

Glitches : I can't count the number of times the game froze on me. - I also had times of utter confusion when characters who had left the game (Isabella) got +10 friendship points on some actions.- I had several "missing walls".

Fighting : I quite enjoyed it. Mages are super overpowered though =O.... 3 balanced mages and rogue in a party works wonders most of the time!

Lore: I was just disappointed to be honest. What happened to all the descriptions of items you could read? In the Codex's you say, some, but really not a lot ....
That's all I can think about off hand, so it's probably the most important to me! XD

Elf Design : I've got to say I love to hate the design of elves in this game, some looked brilliant, the vast majority looked very clumsy facially and pretty unattractive (since elves are supposed to be incredibly attractive to humans, as a human I was quite um... ambivalent). And the Skin... good god, they looked like they had plastic skalps.
