Yeah, this is why I am not looking forward to Skyrim.

But Morrowind, Tribunal, Bloodmoon, Oblivion, and Shivering Isle all had 'continue after the game' play. There's no way we're getting a "And now you must die" ending forced on us there.

I am completely overwhelmed by the end. I am literally puking how awful it is.
I promise you I am not gonna buy DA3 or ME3, unless you score a 10/10. You just lost me with this game, you ruined one of the best piece of RPG that I ever played and make me dream. It is a real piece of junk technically and plotwise.

All that I cared was a good story, which the difficult moral choice happen only on Act 3, and they develop awfully (WTF with Orsino transforming after being a decent man!?! and Anders!!!! come on!!!! that really sucks). But the end, with the title after a conversation that I didn't care of something that will happen in the future, IT IS RIDICOLOUS, THERE IS NO FUTURE!!! I am not ognna buy your stuff, or expansion in advanced again.

I am not even gonna play a 2nd playthrough because I am sick of your repetitive maps!

I don't see there being a concrete end in an Elder Scrolls game, though I bet the writing will be as bad as Fallout 3.

I wouldn't be so sure about Skyrim having post-main quest play.
Bethesda seem to have caught onto the fact that people will in fact pay for DLC to give them open gameplay rather than it being given for "free" like in the previous TES games.

There are hints that Obsidian are going to do this with New Vegas too.

Even better, if you refuse, the epilogue is something like, "so the other human for some reason had to go in and do it for the bastard son of a gun who wouldn't save the world because they were a scumbag who had no right to live. LOL you're so evil!"

The developers of the game actually sat down together and went, "Okay, this is a good ending! You get to be the dead hero or the mean guy who lives! Let's release!" They publish their own s*** over here. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THAT.

That annoyed the hell out of me. They were so fixated on their tragic sacrifice ending that it all fell apart because they implemented it so badly.
And yeah the game basically telling you that you're a selfish coward for not voluntarily turning into radioactive goo. Yeah really. My character was.. what.. an 18-20 year old woman? She should make a great sacrifice or be a coward barely having begun her life?
Is that what her father would've wanted? Get outta here.

Well Oblivion only had one writer for the entire game - now they have 8 so hopefully it will improve

The ending was pretty horrible, especially compared to the epicness that was the ending of Origins. The ending highlights how none of your choices matter. It pretty much ends the same way no matter who you side with. You have to kill both Orsino and Meredith either way, and the mages always get slaughtered. After all the different endings that you could have in Origins, it's really disappointing. And on top of all that, there is no resolution. The game just ends on a ridiculous cliffhanger. They don't even tell you what happened to your companions.

-Shrugs- Personally I didn't care much for the ending. IT depends strongly on how you like a story to end. Whereas in Fallout the main character dies (if you side with the Brotherhood of Steel), most people would probably hate that.

DA2's ending is strictly for the upcoming 3rd one, and I liked it because it left questions and wonder. DA2's way of ending was a bit.... extreme.... BUT it did show why the Seeker and her Order needed to investigate the Champion, so to me it ended perfectly despite the whole radical insane people you HAVE to side with.

Although it did lack the epicness of Origins.... I must say that even though your not fighting Darkspawn and Archdemons, your still facing one hell of a opponent.

DA2 Ending: 8/10. And I use that loosely.

There is NO ending to a CRPG EVER which matches the retardation level of Fallout 3.

I have a robot, I have a ghoul, I have a Super Mutant--what do they say when I'm going to walk into the chamber of massive radiation? "Hey, I'm immune to that, let me save the world without getting killed!" No, they say, "It is your destiny. Go die in there and stuff. It'll be like super-cool and romantic and people will tell stories."

PEOPLE WITH THE MOST SERIOUS MENTAL PROBLEMS POSSIBLE would facepalm at such a moment.

Well.  I liked the sacrifice ending, so I would have chosen it anyway and handwaved Charon/ Fawkes being there.  I can see why people who wanted a choice didn't like it, but that was the ending that gave a satisfying emotional conclusion to the James- Vault Dweller story, which is what Fallout 3 was about for me.

I like tragedy.  Call that a mental defect if you like.  Image IPB

Edit:  Also, you're slapping Bethsoft for listening to fans and giving you the ending you wanted?  I thought Broken Steel was cheesy.

I didn't find Broken Steel cheesy; it was how I would have pulled the Lone Wanderer out of that fire. But my LW had very good karma, and wasn't about to let Sarah walk into the radioactive chamber. Sarah had family, ties, things to do, and I never brought companions (they died too easily). I hear they changed it so now you can get Fawkes or Charon to go in for you; I don't know, never played it that way. She just wakes up back in the Citadel.

But for DA2, I think the point is the story of Kirkwall, not Hawke's story per se. It's how Hawke moves through these events, but as others have noticed, she/he doesn't really change what happens. So it's a personal story, who do you love, how do you treat people, what is your worldview, how do you move through the world, not "I create and am master of this creation." It's a different way of doing an RPG; what you create and control is yourself, not the world you're in. From that standpoint, the ending makes sense. Whatever is going to happen is going to happen, your choice is how you play the hand you're dealt (rather like life). I can see why some people might not like how things play out, but that's the story DA is telling. In a way, it's not so different from ME; we are given the idea that we have a choice but they need to get everyone to more or less the same place storywise before the beginning of ME3. Certain things need to happen. The Collector base needs to be destroyed. Arrival does not end differently no matter which dialogue you choose, only how it is flavored. I think the scene with Leliana and the Seeker is a given, no matter how you play Hawke, because it's part of the larger story.

That doesn't change the fact that both Morrowind and Oblivion had post-gameplay as part of the game, most sandbox games do.
Fallout 3 had it sold as DLC. Also, Broken Steel was alright, but it had no plot. It was basically killkillkill start to finish. You don't even get an option to side with the Enclave even if you did so in the main game.
I mean, what. You poisoned the water just for giggles? That was another failure of Fallout 3's plot; combined with Broken Steel your two options were Brotherhood lapdog or self-destructive psychopath.

I like tragedy.  Call that a mental defect if you like.

It's forced tragedy due to bad writing (they admitted this, the companions were a last minute addition in development terms and they were dead set on the sacrifice plot).
Also, I loathe the way the game calls you a coward for sending Sarah in instead of yourself. Yeah I'm sorry, Sarah's a soldier, I'm not. Her dad's going to take credit for the purifier anyway, leaving my dad's memory in the dust.
I'll say again, my Lone Wanderer is, what.. 18? 20? A woman with a whole future ahead of her is a coward for not choosing to die in a mess her father started? Is that what her father would've wanted? Bah.

I loved how you couldn't send Fawx in there. "I am totally immune to radiation, me going in there to hit the button is the best choice, because nobody dies and hell I'd probably enjoy it a litte....but no you gotta go in and die...it is YOUR DESTINY"

Fawkes' destiny line directly lead to many players using the Liberty Prime glitch to utterly destroy him (that's where if you dismissed Fawkes in front of Liberty Prime, the robot would laser him into bloody chunks).

Atleast Dogmeat loved me, and he had a valid excuse, what with his being a dog. An adorable murder commiting dog.

You do kinda get to side with the enclave at the end of Broken steel... by blowing up the citadel.

It would have been awesome if they would have used Vam buren's ending where you basically decide the fate of the world by using a satellite nuke to cause another nuclear holocaust, or only destroy certain cities, or none at all. would have been epic.

liked the cliffhanger ending, although now i clearly expect finalizing Hawkes story.

Orsino as abomination was a little pulled, but i could live with that as i imagine he lost emotional control after all the losses.
Meredith bossfight remembered me quite a lot of Saren & baby reaper glowing red and jumping around (at least Saren was) but i could live with it as well.
I also wondered why you cant take more of a stand on the mages side (ie choices). That felt forced. In the lore (forgot where) i saw an entry dealing with two interesting facts
1) more abominations/ blood mages than everywhere else in Theadas are in Kirkwall (cause and effect)
and possible related
2) why Tevinter went such lengths installing a base there. (ok partially for the metal, but the lore suggest it may have been more.) So there may be a relation about mages going crazy and Kirkwall as well.
Besides wouldnt be the Fade quite thin in an area where so many lives were lost ?

// Dogmeat always died as martyr :P in love though. He never reached FO3 ending *g

After killing the entire Enclave.
So again, self-destructive psychopath. Since there's no Enclave left to take command of, the only reason to nuke the Citadel is to be an ass.

I personally saw Dragon Age 2's ending as more of a beginning, and in that perspective, I enjoyed it, because it left me interested in the events to come.

It does seem like a lot of people were expecting it to be like DA:O and be more of a self-contained story, and with those expectations I can understand the disappointment. I, on the other hand, had no such expectations, so I was able to enjoy DA 2 for what it seemed to be (i.e., the introduction to the Magi Rebellion).
