It's cloudy here, and dark. It may rain. Somewhere, an owl hooted.

ending? what ending?

The ending where you quell a terrorist uprising and are proclamed Viscount.

Shouldn't the "uprising" have been over once the murder knife did its work on Anders?

I sided with the mages so other than Orisno flipping out suddenly over nothing I didn't have a gigantic issue with the ending. Fallout 3 however was one of the worst endings and stories I've ever been subjected to. Seriously that was just awful, the whole ending was just a cheap excuse to try and force you to buy their crappy Broken Steel dlc pack. Fallout 3 was the final nail in the Bethesda coffin for me. I will never ever buy another product of theirs new again. Well actually I lie I did buy New Vegas, but that was only because Obsidian developed it. Sorry had to rant about Fallout 3! So much fail! :pinched:

I didn't like the "but thou must" ending. Its almost as if they're implying you should've sided with the mages. "Oh look at how poor and defenseless they are!" "Oh, and in case you didn't get it the first time, Meredith's going to turn on you now! Don't you feel like such a jerk for letting them die for nothing?" :/

I didn't claim some people didn't enjoy it, I claimed it was bad. And it was. It was really, -really- bad.

Haven't played the second one, the first one was so awful story and mechanic wise I'd kind of forgotten they'd made a sequel. I'll probably rent the second one at some point just out of curiousity. It's hard to imagine how much more of Star Wars it could ruin, but I'm
sure it'll do it in leaps and bounds. I'll probably need my good buddy
Jack Daniels to help me make it through that game.

Dragon Age 2 has the dubious credit of not being quite so huge a failure as Star Wars: Episode I.

To be fair, this post is almost two months old. This was one of the first major rants that was specific to the third act. Someone (not me) raised it from the dead.

I thought it was a well-reasoned rant, personally.

A very, very -large- vocal portion. I think the term for that large portion you speak of is 'the majority'.

Not every opinion is equal, though. I know that's a common thought in popular culture, but no one -actually- believes it, it's just a nice thought.

For example, the opinion that Star Wars: Episode I is a masterpiece would be laughed at, hard, by just about anyone.

Further, most of the flaws in the ending of Fallout 3 (which I've gone into earlier in this thread) were objective plot failures, not subjective nitpicks (though there were a couple nitpicks as well).

Interplay bankrrupted. Black Isle Studios ceased to exist, Fallout 3 Van Buren never materialized.

Zenimax buys Fallout license from Interplay. They try to recreate the spirit of the old game. See starting area, Megatown quests, outcomes, all well and good. Then they realize it will take 10 years at that pace to develop it, and streamline all the rest.

Profit.

Megaton and the Vault beginning aren't qualitatively different than the other areas.

Fallout 3 had so much character.  I'm back playing it right now in fact, after hundreds and hundreds of hours.  FNV- I doubt they can make a DLC that would entice me to pick it up again.  Maybe a Boone DLC.  Yeah, that would do it.

I'll have to agree with OP, the last act wasn't good at all, orsino's moment and the destruction of the chantry saved it, although i would have implemented an option to lie to anders so that he helps and then i kill him right after kill meredith. I just hated him so much in that moment, but i needed him to.. you know.. beat the game as a 2 hander.
Oh, and Orsino turning into a Harvester was the worst twist i've ever seen, i mean, five bodies cannot create a big ass flesh golem, and mages cannot transform into harvesters <_<
