Zenimax buys Fallout license from Interplay. They try to recreate the spirit of the old game. See starting area, Megatown quests, outcomes, all well and good. Then they realize it will take 10 years at that pace to develop it, and streamline all the rest.

Profit.

Megaton and the Vault beginning aren't qualitatively different than the other areas.

Even I wouldn't go that far. The game has some huge problems, but it's still a pretty damn entertaining experience.

But New Vegas is much better.

I'm a Fallout 1/2 purist you could say.

It was not the best ending i had seen at that point as it is left on a cliff hanger and leaves the story with an air of unfinished business, i really do miss The Exalted March. But at least Hawke is very much alive at the end and not left under a pile of rubble to bleed out like Shepard in the destroy ending of ME3.

I'm generally a positive person, so the ending is fine with me as long as the franchise doesn't end with a bunch of frustrating loose threads (which it probably will *sigh*) but as of now, everything's good.
