trying to win the one on one duel against the arishock (spelling?) with my mage. took FOREVER to finally work and i died at least twenty times to him. if he connected that impale move he'd follow up with another attack and basically two-shot me.

the fight was basically me running around in circles for 20 minutes waiting for my frost spells and crushing prison to come off cool down and using them over and over, the guy must have filled his bags with potions too, its insane.

i was playing a 2h warrior and fought him one on one to save isabela who i was romancing.  I died on my first trying of standing a fighting.  the second time i would charge in and burn my cooldowns and then attack him until i used a health potion and then kite him around the room until the health potion cooldown was almost up, nail him with cooldowns and attack until i use a health pot , rinse and repeat, took a long time but he died.

All that remains.

I didn't even get a NOOOO! moment. But seriously, the writing for that one seems... contrived. WHY can't I hunt down that slippery Orlesian fellow when I find Emeric face down in a ditch? If the slimeball knew she(the lady we find with him when we first meet him) was taken shortly after Hawke left him, why didn't he come to Hawke sooner? So many why's in the quest, I pretty let down by the end of it. Plus any quest to do with Blood Mages I suppose... Who feature quite heavily through the years.

Hawke seems to suffer from a "too late" syndrome throughout the game, always being just too late to save anyone during play, but saving a city of thousands without even trying too hard.

edited to clarify.

in my playthrough the one thing that he wasnt too late for was saving bethany from a group of renegade templars and mages who tried to hold her hostage as collateral for me to help them/not stop them.

That quest was probably one of the best ones because it took alot of the lil side quests i did in the previous acts and combined the results to produce a really cool outcome where many of the members of the group switched sides and helped me cause i saved them previously.  Plus i finally got to talk to bethany for the first time since she was taken to the cirlce of magi.

Yeah, but I think for the purposes of the story Bethany can't die there, otherwise the end game would be too... easy... In other news Ser Varnell was sure quick with his damn blade and shanked 4 Qunari quickly, Hawke comes to the Alienage just in time to see a blood mage kill his wife, Hawke gets to the Chantry just in time to find Seamus dead, Hawke arrives at the Keep just in time to find the Viscount's head, Hawke arrives just in time to see Pol get flattened by a giant thing. Hawke arrives just in time to see the Chantry blow up.... If I were more cynical I'd suggest a subtitle for DA 2, Just In Time.. Not unlike Hard in Hightown : Siege Harder(oh the lols I got from this). I said earlier that having the title Champion of Kirkwall is painful to bear since Hawke's personal record for saving people is pretty damn poor.

On a side note, a little request sort of thing here but hopefully in future games we can actually respond to the letters we receive? Have a dialogue wheel kind of thing where you respond(only to certain relevant letters of course, spam doesn't count) and then get a letter/cutscene with the person later according to your response.
