The writers could. If they wanted to.

I think she is now part of the idol and it will continue its evil ways. That is my guess.

Reminds me a lot of Archdeacon Frollo's death in Hunchback of Notre Dame.
he was going around acting crazy reciting prayers and ironically/karmically ended up being killed instead.

She becomes a profane. A dead-looking one.

I was actually expecting her to come back to life and have a Saren type fight after Sovereign took control of his dead body. I was dissapointed.

I was waiting for her to ASSUME DIRECT CONTROL of those statues she reanimated

She becomes a living idol, but without any lerium to feed off of she's inert. At least thats what i thought.

The answer doesent need explaining because its kinda obvious.
She drew so much power from it that it consumed her, turning into a statue was a fatal magic reaction from the extreme exposure to the idol.

Oh of course. Completely obvious.

My theory is that she's not really dead but is in a cocoon and will turn into an archdemon for the third game. Everything we thought we knew about the Darkspawn in Origins, or rather everything the Chantry believes about the Darkspawn, is completely wrong.

Meredith's dialogue isn't cool enough to be Flemeth's. xD

She tried to sap too much power from the thing. It overwhelmed her, made her a part of it.
Also, the original idol seemed to look like a really small man... perhaps Primeval Thaig was built by Mini Dwarves and one of them pulled a Meredith.
(just joking of course)
It would have been awesome if Flemeth showed up and ripped her heart out, though...

I thought it was kinda funny how everyone, even Hawke, looked too scared to just go and touch the Statuedith. I would have been scared, too.

Looks to me she is just petrified. Forever turned to stone.
Good riddance, now somebody smash her.
