I know that the Mobile Express chipset is not rated for Dragon Age II, and, yes, even with the following specs...
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P8700 @ 2.53 GHz
4 GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
DirectX 11 (and I believe I downloaded/installed the oft-mentioned fix for that)
... but I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to tweak some things to get the most benefit out of it anyway.
I'm still enjoying the game even with the choppiness (and have switched down to DirectX 9, low graphics, etc.) because I just, well, love Dragon Age. Still, if anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks, from a 45-year-old sometimes gamer whose experiences go back to text adventures on a Lisa II !!!

The best thing you can do when you have only an integrated intel graphics chip is make sure you've installed the latest drivers for it (preferably from the laptop manufacturer, but if they have crap driver upkeep you can also try drivers directly from intel, although those might not be fully optimized for your specific chipset), run on the lowest graphics settings and disable all the frills, such as AA, AF, etc.
If it's still choppy and you have one of those laptops with a large resolution, you could also try lowering the resolution to a lower one of the same aspect ratio. Also if you are (by some chance) running Windows Aero theme, turn that off before starting the game (just switch to basic or classic theme).
Other than that it's there's not much you can do - intel graphics aren't great for running high end games at the best of times and often you're lucky if it runs at all. So if DA2 runs, I'd say enjoy it and try to look past the choppiness.

Thanks, Miriel, and "looking past the choppiness" is exactly what I'm doing since the game (have gotten into the first year) is great. I love playing mages and it's great to see a mage physically wielding magic. DA's storylines are wonderful (I'm a journalist, so it's nice to see good/witty writing). I'll try to remember to switch down to basic/classic theme and turn everything "off."
In the meantime, if anyone else has any ideas, chime in. Otherwise, back to work, family and the game! :-)

Thanks, Miriel. I will do just that (look past choppiness, enjoy game). As a journalist (and very occasional sci-fi/fantasy unpublished author) I love the writing for DA. I also love playing mages, and love the fact that in DA2, we've got mages physically wielding their spells.

Hehe happens to me a lot as well. From past experience this site doesn't really seem to like firefox. I double-post so often I'm starting to think I should get a license for it before I get banned.
And I agree with you on the writing - the story-writing and voice-acting is generally pretty top-notch in Bioware games. If you haven't played some of the previous titles from Bioware yet, then I heartily recommend checking them out (family and work permitting ofcourse xD), since I think they're all pretty great games if you love a good story and can look past the occasional bugs (plus the older ones should run great even on a laptop).

Played the Neverwinter Nights titles following at least one of the Baldur Gates. Then on to DA:O (with DLC) and now DA:2 Signature. Thanks for helping out!
