You need to do that one quest for Meredith first.

Marathri still ends up possessed by the Pride Demon regardless of what you do.

And then what will trigger? Assuming you went the Rival romance route and tried to "save her", by not letting her fix the mirror, what is supposed to come next in Act 3? Because I'm not getting anything after "A Talking To".

I didn't either, I had to use the console commands to start "A New Path"--but starting it automatically ends Meredith's quest. I am going to assume you get the same quest regardless because that's her only main Act 3 quest.

Have you done the first storyline quest for Meredith? A new path doesn't trigger until after you do.

So if you keep her from fixing the mirror in Act 2, she still goes to the Pride demon in Act 3?

apparently. this just happened to me. but when 'a new path' queued for me, in our dialogue she referenced me not giving her the tool - yet somehow she'd mostly repaired the mirror but it doesn't work. so she says she's going off to sundermount to chat up the demon that 'helped' her cleanse the mirror in the first place. Said demon is trapped in a container of some sort. She asks me to go with her, if for no other reason than to kill her should she become an abomination. I agreed to go. So apparently, even if you don't give her the tool, you still have to have the big showdown with the possessed Marithari.

I also had 'mourning' show up as a completed quest in the journal, though I never did it. In fact, other than the game freezing up when I went to Sundermount the first time (when you pick up Merrill in the first place), occasionally having to walk away from dead enemies to pick up loot, occasionally having my character stop fighting in combat(this happens when i use a combustion grenade- its fixed by tossing a stun bomb(the talent rogue's have), hmm I think those are the only bugs I've run into. And none of them have really affected gameplay - even the not fighting. I'm not fighting, but the enemies aren't hitting me either.

My biggest complaint is the lack a balance. I mowed, and I mean mowed, through all the areas, but when a boss fight came up I was getting slaughtered. For most of the game, I played through areas alone, I had the 'team' holding position while I did all the butt kicking. But when I hit the bosses, it was like the difficulty level went from normal to crazy. But if I changed the difficulty, then the boss practically died before he was even hit. Makes no sense.

I went full rival, and she ended up telling hawke he was right all along, destroying the mirror and stopped using blood magic (in the story, she used it in actual battles) to me the rivalry path of the relationship is much happier ending wise then the friendship one.

really the closest you can get to a happy ending with Merrill is if you romance her. You still end up with a dead keeper and an angry(or dead) clan, but at least she still has Hawke.

Yeah, she realizes that everything she's ever done was wrong and she stops doing the only thing she knows because she never had any support.

I don't know, but giving up has never been a happy ending in my book.
I prefer friendship path.

Oh, I'm sure Merril had her first 'happy ending' with Hawke.

So would that count as "Blood Magic"? :P
