Hi all, I would like to ask you if there is any way how to change a path to HAK folder on my C:
For now it is C:\\Documents and Settings\\My name\\My documents\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\hak . My problem is that C: doesn't have enough space for DA DLC so I would like to change this path for hak.
Anybody knows how to do it?

If you mean the set of folders the Toolset works with? Then as far as I know you cant change it :( which is a real annoyance...

Its one of my biggest gripes, since I like to keep my C drive as operating system storage only... thankfully I made my C partition around 12 gigs. Why they couldnt have allowed you to set a specific drive or location for the Toolsets set of folders I dont know, since they made it so you can do so with the game engine and run a separate set of folders else where as well as the original install. Al I recall is someone mentioning it years back as done the way it was to work with Vista, never used Vista so havent a clue why.

Dont think its possible but if anyone else knows how then I too would like to know also...

err theres a Dragon Age DLC hak for NWN2?

You could uninstall DA.  One option....

Aside from that, you could enable the -home configuration.

Generally, this is done if you're going to build in the toolset and host/DM/play your module/world from the same computer.  However, it should accomplish what you want.

Its in one of the ini files in the program directory, copy it to your user folder and you can map it as desired.

-home in a shortcut allows you to re-aim where your player folder, it's a much better option. ( you will have to google how as i don't remember off the top of my head, but others likely can explain or provide a proper link for ya )

nwn2.ini has paths for the various folders.

Edit: this is how I use -home for one of my shortcuts. I do not have the game in the default folder structure (obviously). So it's [game folder] -home ["user folder"].
G:\\Duane\\Games\\NWN2_Fantasma\\nwn2main.exe -home "G:\\Duane\\Games\\Modules_Test"

2El Condoro - but how to change it? There is "HAK=.\\hak" which is "C:\\Documents and Settings\\My name\\My documents\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\hak" and I want to change it to "G:\\Program Files (x86)\\Atari\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\hak"

edit: so if I use:G:\\Program Files (x86)\\Atari\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\nwn2main.exe - home "G:\\NWN2\\hak" it will work and I can move all haks there?

I haven't tried it but I assume you'd key in HAK="G:\\Program Files (x86)\\Atari\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\hak"

Try it and see. Sounds OK.

Edit, actually no. The -home folder changes the whole folder structure. So you would have to have all the [My documents]\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\[folders] under the HAK folder you mentioned. Best option (?) use -home G\\NWN2 as your new home folder and move your whole user folder there.

more confusing for me :)

so you say I should move "Nevewinter Nights 2" which is under "My Documents" on C: to G:\\NWN2? So it will be like this G:\\NWN2\\Neverwinter Nights 2?
and use "G:\\Program Files (x86)\\Atari\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\nwn2main.exe" - home "G:\\NWN2" ?

Close:
G:\\Program Files (x86)\\Atari\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\nwn2main.exe - home "G:\\NWN2\\Neverwinter Nights 2"
No quotation marks for the nwn2main.exe. If you copy the My documents\\Neverwinter Nights 2 folder and paste it to G:\\NWN2 the above pathing will work. [Delete the original when you are sure everything is OK]

Edit: The Toolset -home would be
G:\\Program Files (x86)\\Atari\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\NWN2ToolsetLauncher.exe - home "G:\\NWN2\\Neverwinter Nights 2"

hm, nope. It is not working for me.

edit: if I do it it still downloads everything back to C:

edit2: I remember how easy it was in NWN1. You had all under hak under your NWN1 folder. Not like now on C:

Downloads what? I'm not sure what you're downloading.

If you have a shortcut with the -home setting above it should run NWN2 as per normal but draw the modules, haks etc from the -home folder.

well, I did what you say. Removed "Nevewinter Nights 2" from "My Documents" and moved to G:\\NWN2 but if I want to create a shortcut on my desktop I must write "G:\\Program Files (x86)\\Atari\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\nwn2main.exe" - home "G:\\NWN2\\Neverwinter Nights 2" and when I launch the game my settings are default and it creates another NWN2 folder under "My Documents".

I'm not sure if you just put them there for the sake of the post, but the quotation marks around the path for nwn2main.exe are not required. Otherwise it's OK. I assume the permissions on the new G:\\NWN2 folder are read-write. Beyond that I'm at the end of my experience.

The "My Documents" folder is a requirement tied to .NET compatibility IIRC or some other Microsoft geniusness. So the game and/or toolset will always use that as the document root I believe. If it doesn't find the NWN2 folder there, it will automatically recreate it, which I think is what's happening to you. It's been a long time since I messed with this stuff so my memory is a bit hazy in this regard (I was annoyed like you at first).

If space is a problem for you, you can remap My Documents to another drive/partition entirely. If you don't want to do that, and you can't change the path in the INI file, you could try moving your HAK folder to another drive and making the original HAK folder a LINK to it. I think Microsoft calls these "junctions" or "junction points".

Just some other thoughts to consider.

I'm not sure what DuchanT's particular problem is but I can say the -home folder approach does work. I have 2 NWN2 setups on my PC (one X1 and the other X2 and 3) and 2 separate folders for player data - one in the normal My documents folder and the other on a separate folder (same drive) and I can use them both - one needing the -home setting in the shortcut.

As cipher has said, the location of My documents can be changed (DuchanT may want to move it to G:\\ drive). Right-click and Properties on the My documents icon on the desktop and use the Move... button. It may be a good solution if your C drive is filling up and you have a new external HDD. It's what I did for just that reason.

just set up a -home directory for myself here. Part of the problem may be no space between ' - ' and ' home ', another might be that Windows usually wants doublequotes around paths with spaces : so,

"F:\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\nwn2main.exe" -home F:\\NWN2_Clean

Unfortunately it did not work for the Toolset Launcher, so changing the location of My Documents would then be the way to go.

As per my working example above the quotes don't need to go around the nwn2main.exe path (but mine doesn't have spaces in the name) but they do need to go around the second path (presumably if it has any spaces in it). I missed that in earlier posts - might be worth a try - double-quotes around both paths.

Edit: for the Toolset the Tools, Options, Default Module Locn setting would need to be checked, too.
