bethany was an awesome character. the family thing was great to begin with. the mother was a little annoying at start of the game, and i am glad carver got killed off at the start (his death is actually good for the story/character building, plus he was just a douche). however, having bethany in my party was just great. she was a fun character to interact with and also had some good lines with other party members. and it just seemed like she fit. plus the other mage choices were horrible characters (at least for what I wanted)

then we are about to leave for the expedition.. "are you sure you want to bring bethany?! what if she dies?!" says my mother. i know bioware is sneaky, so i go all paranoid and boot her for this ONE mission.. i didn't want to risk the life of one of my favorite characters, even though i was reluctant to lose her even for a bit. sure enough, i get back.. and she's like hi! i'm off to the circle since you left for 5min!! also, i'm taking all the mage equipment you got for me with me!

at that point i thought.. damn you bioware. you would have killed her, and since she is "killable" now that means she can't be that important of a character, because some people would have killed her. so that means even though i didn't kill her, she's still out. great. but it's okay, because shes still just in the circle in the same city as me. who cares? i'll see her all the time - hell, if the bloody captain of the guard has time to follow me around 24/7, maybe she'll even still be a party member.

fast forward a few years. i have one letter from her. i can't go to the circle to talk to her. she's nowhere in the city we can see her at. she never writes again & the only time you see her again she gives you one line & then leaves off again. wut?

give me my sister back :(

Same here. I was pissed when they forced her dead or gone.

Becoming a Grey Warden is the best option for her in that situation.

She survives the darkspawn corruption, she doesn't end up in the Circle, and Grey Wardens are legally allowed to have mages in their ranks. So she has freedom and a job with an income. And its very widely believed that there is no higher calling than being a Grey Warden.

What I'd like is to be able to keep her past Lothering even if I am a mage. :P

freedom? what freedom? being duty bound to fight darkspawn your entire greatly shortened life plagued by nightmars? yeah, thats better than chilling in a tower....

Successful family mechanic is successful. No really.

There's always next time for making her a Grey Warden.

I was so glad when she fought by my warriors side, I liked her a lot more than Carver. She was a nice and gentle character.

I adored Bethany. I thought she was probably the sanest person you travel with (up until the plotwagon ambles by at the end of Act 1). She may be sheltered, but she's a sweetheart. I really enjoy the interaction between Bethany and Varric.

I was mildly irked after she became a Grey Warden, but she was still getting over the trauma of the Joining (other option is death by darkspawn corruption, no thanks). I really loved the conversation you have with her when you're gearing up for the final battle (sided with the mages). I really enjoyed having Bethany as a party member. She was far more useful and less annoying than Merrill (my opinion).

really the circle is her best option. from my experience and from others results on different paths, she becomes the most happy by going into the circle. also depending on side and other quests you do during the acts, affects things for her for the better or worse. in the letter she sends, she writes about one really mean templar she is going to try to stay clear of. you get a quest from anders to find out what hes up to and i killed him so her problem is solved.

I think the only reason my character sides with the mages after all the corrupted and psychotic blood mages i encountered throughout the game was pretty much only because of bethany being a mage in the circle and big brothers gotta watch out for her.

Bethany becomes extremely cold and resentful if she winds up with the Wardens. It's not a happy existence for her, and she blames Hawke for putting her there. They don't exactly make nice until the very end of the game.

Carver's response to becoming a Warden is more positive, even if he does make a lighthearted jab at it being Hawke's fault, and his codex mentions him actually not liking that fact.
