Hi all,

I'm trying to start Dragon Age 2 on my PS3, but every time I start it hangs.

Basically, I can select a class (Mage) and then do a brief intro where I fight some things including a troll. After the troll, I'm surrounded and a dragon breathes fire.

It then cuts back to the interrogation, and after some speech, moves to the character customisation menu. At this point, the controller no longer works for anything with the game. I cannot press X to select appearance, and neither the joysticks nor the d-pad work to move the option bar around.

Pressing the PS3 home button does allow me to quit the game.

I've tried twice now, and both times it hangs at the character customisation menu.

My PS3 is a 60GB fat model. I am connected to PSN and to EA Games. I have the latest Sony firmware installed.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

I've had this problem consistently. I usually resolve it by simply letting the system sit for up to 5 minutes, once the screen 'brightens' I can access the appearance details. Note, if you choose either of the two presets for Hawke on the first tab you *cannot* customize anything else.

I've also swapped controllers and plugged a controller in directly rather than using wireless with mixed results.

I really hope this is patched soon.

I've also experience intermittent freezing that requires a system restart. I stopped PC gaming to avoid these sorts of glitches... :(

Same issue for over a week now. I have a thread about it I just bumped. There is another thread called "Freezing" which was on the top of the forum for days until today about this as well.

I have contacted EA, and have had my ticket escalated 4 times now, over the course of 8 days now. I've recieved advice ranging from delete your old DA:O saves, reinstall game data, to reformate your PS3. I've finally asked they provide a working patch because there are many of us with this issue, let me know there is a patch in the matching and this is a acknowledged problem with a lot of users, or replace my signature edition. I'd be happy with either solution but it has been a slow process. Good luck getting yours to turn, if you do get it past the select screen, it will freeze every 5 minutes at best anyway.

Mine doesn't freeze 'every five minutes' it's more like every 2-3 hours but it is incredibly frustrating. I'm not going to delete my DA:O saves solely for this issue (though I may delete/cleanup my saves for my own reasons).

Guys, if its at the character creation part then its not the freezing issue. It may look like the freezing issue but its not. The freezing issue happens in-game usually. At the character creation section, the game tries to find any DA:O files that you have in your ps3, the more you have the longer it waits, i had over 100 plus saves in my ps3, it took over 7-8 minutes before I could start moving again. Its no freezing its just accessing your hard drive. If you look at the bottom left corner when you get to the character creation, there's a small black circle rotating, that means its accessing you drive.

Ah, thanks - I left it alone for about 20 minutes and it went through.

What a stellar piece of coding :(

..... If you look at the bottom left corner when you get to the character creation, there's a small black circle rotating, that means its accessing you drive.

And when that stops rotating, and the disk stops being read, and the HDD stops flashing that it is being accessed? No, the game freezes every 5 minutes on my PS3.  I finally returned this massive headache back to the pits from which it came.
