<3 Am I the only one who fell head-over-heels for this character? <3
His looks, his experience, his charisma, his AWESOME diversion during the Qunari invasion .
My fem!Hawke would've done anything for this sly magical fox. The way the game ended for him was a shock and a heartbreak. (which can be easily blamed on the game being rushed)
Even knowing about his ivolvement in Quentin's research can be justified. She'd stand by him no matter what.
The least she could do was wield his staff and ring during the final battle.

Come on, show the poor First Enchanter some appreciation! Help out and post some screenies, the internet is sadly devoid of them :wizard:

.....::::::::::.....

A little rant for everyone who feels strongly against Orsino, courtesy of Kelenthial:

I also suspected Orsino beforehand of being "O."(...) And, anyway, one thing is having a scientific interest in research, another altogether of doing it yourself -- I believe Orsino didn't have to necessarily know the gory details (the mass-murderer of innocents part), he merely provided literature on necromancy and wanted to hear about the results. The latter may have been his attempt at controlling the situation, as we know he feared actually asking templar help in anything because it would give Meredith more ammunition against mages. And that's a fact, not only something he states in the last dialogue if you side with the templars (though he does) - he has you investigating how desperate his mages are because he is afraid to ask templars to perform their duty.
Anyways, he may have known the details on Quentin or he may have not known but, arguably, either makes him a better person than Anders in the end -- because he did read the research material (and pronounced it "evil" and didn't touch it right until the final straw) but he didn't kill anybody to get what could have been a last resort evil-y advantage over the templars. Sounds familiar? Plus, if he has learned it at some point and wanted to act against it without the templars knowing -- and didn't have your confidence, as he had some years later -- how would you propose he proceeded? Remember, keeping it a secret from Meridith was a necessity, in his opinion (we may argue this point but I think he was, over all, right here).
Anyway, even if we agreed on Orsino being evil there is no evidence in the game of him being an idiot or a weak man - quite to the contrary. So, while I could see the templar ending as actually happening, the ending stops having *any* sense if you side with mages. Mr Gaider answered elsewhere on the forums that not seeing any not-bat*** crazy mages around doing the final battle was due to engine limitation ("we could only get that many people in a scene"), and we can assume that they just didn't have time/didn't think it worthwile to put more good/neutral mages in the game (there are a few -- even one of the Starkhaven mages manages to run away, not turn bad, write to you with thanks and propose doing some quests for her friends -- and the disgrace templar quest has been so far my *favourite* in the entire game!). None of that explains why you have to fight through waves of mages and abominations -- but even if you say "they were pushed to the edge and cracked" that does not, in any way, explain what Orsino does! Nor the moment he does it! I agree with what other people said - there were hundreds better ways to handle that scene.
(...)I felt both characters - Orsino and Meredith - were cheapened in the end and I would much prefer it if the causes of their respectives craziness remained much more ordinary -- you don't need almighty evil artefacts from the past to make people go mad fanatics and start burning witches; look at the real life religions if you need any evidence. And if the devs wanted to show Orsino as evil it could have been done much more better to show him as doing something similar to, figuratively speaking, Anders. Though not along the same lines that would be repetitive. (...)
And, to add to this some more (because I do like the First Enchanter) -- I wouldn't mind Orsino being evil. Make him a lying, backstabbing manipulating bastard all you want - it would be even more epic, since I do believe he shouldn't have the higher moral ground over Meridith, storywise. But don't make him a weak willed idiot! Because that just goes against all the character developement (and we had very little of it as it was) there was up to that point! Why turn himself into a monster, or using blood magic until he is out of mana and has no other option? Why?

It's odd. He's got a hairline that I normally don't like and he's a dude in robes. Usually deal breakers for me... and yet I find the First Enchanter quite enchanting indeed. Even kind of hot during his moment vs the Qunari. It's really a shame what happens to him in the end.

His diversion was amazing.

Actually, Orsino was amazing right up until he turned into the freaking Harvester. What.

Then I closed the game and the Internet told me he was the one supporting Quentin's experiments (I hadn't bothered to properly read the letters during All That Remains). Now... yeah, I don't like him so much anymore. He's well written until he goes nuts, but I despise him.

I found him very very likable until he turned out to be an insane blood mage who helped brutally murder your mother. I was disappointed when that happened, such good potential wasted.

I ,myself, find it possible to justify his involvement in blood magic and with Quentin.
It was the way he gave up and turned into the harvester that did me in, I was devastated.
Oh, BioWare...

yeah, i liked him till he went nuts at the very end.
the part during the qunari invasion where he starts blasting guys with fireballs and stuff. i wasn't expecting that, i figured he'd go blow up something in the distance so they'd run and check it out, but instead he straight up runs over and starts shooting dudes lol

His charge against the Qunari was one of the more epic moments in the game, in my opinion and he was a great character nonetheless
But then, I might be an exaggerating fangirl with a malfunctioning moral compass :)

Sigh. Yeah, Orsino was awesome until the big reveal. Was it really necessary to make him an EVIL BLOOD MAGE??? It wouldn't have invalidated the point that mages do need some form of control to let the First Enchanter *just* be a regular, albeit desperate and frustrated, mage. That felt cheap and forced to me.

And yeah, he was one of the better looking males elves in the game. Ever since meeting Sand in NWN2, I've wanted a love interest character kind of like him. Poor Orsino, whacked with the Stupid Evil trope stick. =(

Yes, poor love, him :(
Let's blame the writers for going surprise-butt-sex on us there, shall we?

I can't like him. He symbolises why people hate mages.

Yeah, that...err... did annoy me :(
I'm going to stick with the thought that it was just an act of desperation.

I don't remember/haven't seen this particular one, but he had me the moment I met him =]
Maker, I have a special little save that lets me admire him in battle whenever I wish to.
I need to get over myself and make some fanart.

If you choose to distract the qunari instead of storming the gates like Meredith wants then Meredith asks how they're supposed to pull this off. Orsino twirls his staff slowly as he steps out alone to provide a distraction and says that line. It totally eclipsed Meredith's shown badassery and definitely made up for the fact that you had to save his life when you first met while Meredith had to save yours.

I think Orisno was the coolest looking male Elf in my opinion. Plus his voice was awesome too. Though I wonder, who did his voice?

Also I've mentioned this in another thread, but is it just me or is the First Enchanter taller than a lot of his fellow elves?

Ahh, thanks :)
And I agree, that was complete badassery!

I'm about to try taking some nice screenshots and uploading them :)

Orsino was sooo cute! I had a little mini-crush on him. Then I found out that he is crazy, like everyone else in this game. Posted Image

He was the coolest looking elf :)
I have nothing against Fenris, he's growing on me, but Orsino beats him. It's not very difficult to overshadow someone who can't even stand straight, lol!:D

And yes, I've just checked and he doesn't really look shorter than any of my companions!

I always took it as a part of his time as a slave.  He was always made to look down.  But back to Orsino, his fate is one of the biggest disappointments for me in DA2 :(.

Fenris:  Look at me, I'm a handsome, brooding elven warrior; my past is enshrouded in mystery and I'm full of sexy angst!
Hawke:  *smacks him on the back with her staff* Stand straight, will you?! Act like you're the Champion's companion already.

There is a funny thing I tried on Orsino which was the sarcastic comment for the Best Served Cold quest...where Hawke says that he/she shouldn't slit their wrists and dance naked under the moon etc. Orsino says in that case he might join in lmao or something close to it.
