I've only ever played the pro-mage scenario, so I can't say what he's like in a pro-templar game, but the one thing that hits me above all else is the massive weight of despair Orsino bears. He knows that it won't end well. He wishes it could be different, but he knows that it won't be. This is hammered home in the ending, where his former... charges... caress him. He has sacrificed himself and all he believed in to give mages a chance to be free. He is made of love and selfless devotion and ultimately is destroyed by his own lack of perspective. He should have known that demons do not play fair.

Possibly one of my favorite moments in the entire game is where Orsino has reanimated the corpses of his fallen mages, is being embraced by them, and he closes his eyes. He knows what's coming. He dreads it, but he knows. Yeah, I know all about Orsino and What's-His-Name, but I don't care. In that one moment, he wins my sympathy.

I so totally agree, which is why, in my fanfic, my OC will keep him from losing his perspective and going to that place.

Well I'm writing fan-fic that makes both Orsino and Varric into LI's.  If you haven't checked it out, you really should read Isteillia's fic for Orsino, or check out my Lyrium Series.  Isteillia also heads an Orsino group on deviantArt which is so totally awesome

Anyone have an estimate on his age? I'm assuming late 40's?

What some don't understand is that he watched people he knew for years, all he should protect, falling right before his eyes. To him, there is no hope and no real future to the few, too few, survivors. So yeah, I totally understand him.

I don’t like, though I do have characters that I’m disappointed with,
ones I look back on and regret cutting important elements out of, or
ones that I wish we’d been able to do more with. First Enchanter Orsino
was one of the main antagonists, and I felt like we ended up giving him
less screen time than he really needed to tell his side of the story,
which is unfortunate.

I thought late 40's as well. He didn't seem as old as Irving (though I don't know his age either.)

That's sad that Orsino got a bit of the axe, though not surprising since Meredith is the main antagonist in Act 3.  But hey, we all liked Orsino and sympathized with him despite the limited screen time, so there is that.

I think as with a lot of the potential antagonists in Kirkwall, Orsino's not a bad dude.  He's a generally well-meaning person with some very particular character flaws and blind spots that end up costing him everything.  The only two characters I can think of who are complete and utter monsters are Quentin and Alrik...and even Quentin has a reason why he is the way he is.

Orsino is one of those characters that I wish I had a better chance to know. I find him sympathetic, depsite his encouragement of Quentin. He was a tool of others, probably, seeking promotion to First Enchanter before he was prepared to deal with the role simply because other people didn't want it. He did the best he could. He loves his people. I wish we could have seen more of him.

LOL Nothing wrong with older men, but then again my boyfriend is 35 and looks like Loghain. =P

But yeah, google has not been my friend trying to find that answer. Guess I'll stick with late 40's.

For me, 35 wouldn't be much of an age difference (only 3 years).  How is it that, for someone who prefers older men, I'm dating someone who's my age?  (32)

And lucky, lucky girl to be dating someone who looks like Loghain.  I'm envious   That reminds me, I need to get back to my Loghain fic.

No Loghain boyfriend for me either.  My type is blonde, scruffy, and adorable with pouty puppy eyes.  Though thankfully, my boyfriend is the most emotionally stable guy ever; nothing like Anders in that regard

I definitely support this! I fell for Orsino as well… What Bioware did to him in the end should have been avoidable to a Hawke who supported the mages… The game was WAY too rushed!!
