There is a funny thing I tried on Orsino which was the sarcastic comment for the Best Served Cold quest...where Hawke says that he/she shouldn't slit their wrists and dance naked under the moon etc. Orsino says in that case he might join in lmao or something close to it.

I think that's the phrase that Anders will say if present. "I'd pay to see that". Some people have had Orsino say that in his place.

I think Orisno was the coolest looking male Elf in my opinion. Plus his voice was awesome too. Though I wonder, who did his voice?

Also I've mentioned this in another thread, but is it just me or is the First Enchanter taller than a lot of his fellow elves?

It actually looks like he may be taller than Meredith, if he stood up straight.

So yes, he is a taller elf. (;

Then I closed the game and the Internet told me he was the one supporting Quentin's experiments (I hadn't bothered to properly read the letters during All That Remains). Now... yeah, I don't like him so much anymore. He's well written until he goes nuts, but I despise him.

I actually remembered that the note had been signed "-O" and when I first met Orsino, I thought, "Wait a minute..."

This was a surprise because I had a hella time keeping track of quest lines over different acts. ("Who are you again?")

I don't get this response :(
He just continues with a straight face after Anders says that he'd pay to see this.
Anything special you did? ;p

I rather liked him.. up until he turned into a giant Harvester. :P

However, if this was Fallout he'd be dead in a minute just so I could frolic around in those amazing robes. I CAN'T HELP IT.

If only BioWare were more generous, I'd find a way to rid him of his robes without killing him
...Oh well, at least we get his staff. That's some retribution, no?

*sniff*

He had me when he provided that distraction. I, like many of you, expected him to either provide a distraction elsewhere or charge the Qunari and end up dying. But no, he charges the Qunari and kicks their arses so hard the entire Qunari race can't sit down for a week.

All the worse when he ends up going stupid crazy. When he was changing to the Harvester I was screaming at my TV "NO! Orsino, you fool, you're supposed to be a symbol and an example to your followers! HOW COULD YOU?!" I think I agree that he got unfairly whacked with the evil stick. If DA2 wasn't a video game he probably wouldn't have needed to go insane in order to provide an equal challenge for both sides the player could take, Mage or Templar. It just feels forced, in my opinion.

I really liked him, he reminded me of Irving in that he was a very strong attentive First Enchanter but the fact that he strongly stood up for his mages against the Templars made him a firm ally. It was a blow when he turned to blood magic ... I thought after all the mages who had fallen to it he would be strong enough not to resort to that. To be honest I feel like the only mages who didn't use blood magic in Kirkwall were Anders and my Hawke ... I sided with the mages at the end but it was kind of disconcerting to end up fighting stacks of blood mages in the Circle. Guys I was trying to help you! Stop going evil! Seriously, I wanted to smack every one of those blood mages until the demons fled through shear agony.

I liked him up until the point towards the end. I like and understand the theme of "if mages are backed up against the wall, they can turn to avenues that others can't" but when he transforms...he's not really backed up against the wall. I mean, they just won round one and Hawke has already proven himself/herself as someone who can face unlikely odds and come out on top. If they were being rushed by templars and losing, I could buy it more. But his decision to use blood magic and transform himself is just so...pointless. He doesn't even attack the templars - no, he attacks you, if you support him. What in the hell does that accomplish? And defeating him is only proof that if he had stuck with Hawke, he would have come out ahead.

At least Meredith's unhinging was already hinted at throughout the game.

Agreeing to side with the mages was probably the worst ending out of the two, it made practically no sense at all despite how bad ass Orsino was.

He somehow managed to turn into a harvester, which was a massive wtf moment for me, how in the hell did he turn into a creature that was created by dwarven smiths using dwarven bodies, and not only that, but the original harvester removed itself from it's body and had to add to it to make it like it was.

I played as a Mage Hawke, and hoped that Orsino would've been the right guy to back, I had no idea up until he started ranting about Quentin that he was involved with Mother's death and then he pulls blood magic out of his ass while talking about making examples of mages, and doesn't turn into a demon, but rather the Harvester while I get locked in a room fighting him while the templars watch behind a protective barrier he created for them..it honestly doesn't make sense.

However, as a character I thought he was one of the best designed elves in the game, the robes were what I would've seen my Elf Warden wearing, and his accent wasn't Irish/Welsh (Thank god) and they didn't do a poor job like they did on Zevrans face at least.

I did like Orsino, especially the part with the Qunari. He seemed more rational than Meredith, and more willing to see the faults of both sides, and his position was less 'down with the templars' and more 'templars shouldn't be involved in politics' which seemed very sensible and a lot of non-mages shared his opinion.

I found his transformation really frustrating. You can spend the whole game trying to defend the mages and they just rush to prove you wrong and the templars right at every opportunity. Even when you had templars and mages trying to work together they just end up as a creepy cult full of blood mages.

I agree wholeheartedly. It wasn't the blood magic itself, however, that got me - it was the fact that a badass mage, the First -bloody- Enchanter, could not control it and went mindless berserk on everyone like a mere abomination.
After all, not even counting the PCs, there are characters in Dragon Age who successfully use blood magic and DO NOT go mad like this. Take Jowan, for example. he was just an apprentice :/

I didn't scream at my computer, but I was still pretty loud in my disagreement.
My brother in the next room must have been confused.

Yes, Orsino was totally awsome. Loved it, when he went against the Qunari, leaving Meredith foaming at the mouth. Brilliant!

Mind you, I did have my suspicions about him, because of the note in the serial killer's lair and it actually added to the character, I thought. Awsome, but not quite trustworthy!

And then they waste him in this awful, awful ending. (And I totally loved the game until that point!).

And what they did to Meredith was not that much better.

Two brilliant antagonists turned into mindless end-game-bosses. Sad.

I loved Orsino right up until the end when he goes all Blood Magic and Harvester on you. Especially since they WERE WINNING. The only thing Orsino did was give a potential opening for a Templar attack by distracting the Champion. Also, could Bioware maybe try and show a Mage turn toward evil without either a demon or blood magic/necromancy being involved? Burning people with fire or freezing them with ice and shattering them is perfectly evil as well.

Still, he was awesome during the Qunari invasion (I didn't expect him to just jump in and throw fire around like that), and seemed like a very reasonable man.

And I covet his staff.

Most people seem to share my opinion of him. Awesome up until Harvester-time. Since I sided with the mages, it made me question that decision. If this (previously) reasonable man turns to blood magic, how does this reflect on everyone else?
I also didn't realize who "Quentin" was until I read the wiki afterwards. Grrr...

Too true. As if scorching everything in sight wan't badass enough :/ I'm becoming tired of blood magic, or at least how -BioWare- uses it.

I reckon it was done to put Orsino and Meredith on equal ground, to avoid having an obvious black/white division in the future. I mean, it can't be any more obvious that the Mage versus Templar/Chantry conflict will take center stage in the future. Orsino is definitely the 'If he can turn out like that...' example, Anders also "helps" through his actions.

So does Orsino ever actually admit to helping Quentin and thus being minorly involved in your mother's death or does he just refer to 'Quentin's research' before he goes Harvester and you need to piece it together?

How can people even like him? He's responsible for your mother's death, t'was a pity I couldn't bring him back as undead and kill him again.........and then rinse and repeat a couple of times........
