I have never wanted so much for my mage Hawkette to just yell: "Oh come on, you've got to be bloody kidding me!!".. and in general rant about every mage in Kirkwall being idiots, and everyone of them thinking it's a brilliant idea to make deals with demons.

Heheh We all feel this way. My standing opinion is that this is due to BioWare being rushed by EA to finish the game and thus leaving it VERY unpolished.

It is, then, safe to say that Orsino was nothing short of awesome and just a victim of bloodthirsty bureaucrats

One thing i noticed about Orsino (i don´t know if it is intended or just my imagination) is that many times that he talks to you he do so without looking directly at you in the face, but giving you his back. Perhaps it has something to do with him not wanting to share too much with you (like he is a blood mage), or perhaps it is just that he likes to do that.

That's an interesting point! He certainly seemed aloof a lot of the time.
I don't think, however, that it was because he was trying to hide anything from Hawke and that it had anything to do with blood magic/Quentin.
The mage's situation was dire at the time of you meeting him and my theory is that the only thing he was trying to hide was how worried he really was. He avoided eye contact to conceal his emotions (he was a strong persona who people relied on after all, seeing him losing it would cause a serious morale problem)

I was JUST having this same thought earlier. For some reason he is just awesome, that diversion man. Even though he went crazy at the end I made his staff my mages weapon though it wasn't the best one in my inventory just because how much I admired him before hand. Also that comment he makes in response to you saying "Should I slit my wrists and dance in the moonlight?" to fit in with the apostates he mentions something about wanting to join you if that were the case!

I'm really sad his character met that fate, but then again a lot of the characters have sad endings 8(

I'm glad you feel the same way!
I swore to myself that I'll wear his ring and wield his staff throughout all the upcoming DLC, too, as a tribute to him
His demise made very upset.
Also, for me he symbolises what EA did to this game. All the bugs and faults because they rushed BioWare to release it sooner.
