Thanks to whoever made the sig banner, it is most awesome!<3

I like this theory, it explains his sudden bout of madness in a plausible way.

And slightly off topic, but my favourite robe design (That was wearable by Hawke, of course ;) ) was the mage robes that looked like proper armour  that you could get from one of the shops in the gallows in act three.
Felt like I was playing my arcane warrior again!

Alright my take on Orsino isn't necessarily that I hated the fact that he resorted to Blood Magic out of desperation it was the WAY in which this big reveal went down. Or rather, the culmination of becoming living proof of why Mages can be dangerous was just handled in such a rushed and dismissive fashion that it came across as rushed/forced at best, or confusing and contradictory to his cause at worst.

So yeah, I think having him secretly communicating with the White Lily character could've been an EXCELLENT plot reveal. It's just that Orsino, like much of the events of ACT 3, were rushed and haphazardly executed at a level that people don't expect from BioWare.

BioWare doesn't seem to have a problem in creating interesting and complex characters and weaving them together in a narrative, it's just that in the third act of so many of their games, something seems to be "off". This is why people get so frustrated I think.

He -social.bioware.com/738913/- made the banner on my request. Great, isn't it? :D Thanks for including the link, too!
Interesting theory, yes. I'm not sure how viable it is (apart from Bartrand nobody on the expedition/ in the mantion went mad, I think), but if it explains some of that atrocity of an ending, I'll take it, heh!

And i've not seen the robes :( I'll look for them next time.

I've already mentioned most of this here, so I agree wholeheartedly.
And if the game wasn't so unpoilished, who knows what the results could've been....? :(
I blame EA for this one.

Hmm, I thought that the soldiers in Bartrand's house go mad as well? Although not sure if that was because of the idol, or because of what Bartrand was doing to other people.
Must replay at some point and find out ^^

Oh, snap xD
I think you're right. It's only been one playthrough for me so far, I'm waiting for a major patch.

Attention deficiency disorder, dammit... I blame the writers!

The guards in Bartrand's house went insane because he fed them lyrium. A maid or something explains this.

You could also attribute Orsino's madness to his staff. If you read the codex entry for it after obtaining it, it is also mentioned to have mind warping abilities, with Orsino wildly dismissing the claims.

However, as a plot device that's rather weak. Makes me feel it was shoehorned in as a last minute explanation to why he went wahoo hey.

I like the theory about the lyrium-sword having an effect on Orsinos sudden madness. After all it was first at the very end Meredith finally snapped and we discovered that her mind was poisoned. Until then she actually sounded pretty sensible IMO. At least for a templar who had the horrible experience with mages and abominations she had.

But in general I was pretty annoyed the incident with the harvester happened. It almost made me regret siding with the mages.. almost.

Thanks for clearing that up. I obviously haven't been careful enough.

I remember having read something like this in the Staff of Violation codex entry, but it didn't appear very significant, I'll have a read again.
Still, there's no sense in coming up with excuses like this, they feel very forced and explain near to nothing. While there have ben clues about Meredith being a loony throughout most of the gwent  suddenly mad at he end of the game because of a staff he had all along? Bull****, if you ask me.

I know that many people dislike the DA:O end credit music by 30 Seconds to Mars (I don't),
but this made me smile :) Uplifting for anyone who sided with the mages, a.k.a. (among others) it doesn't show Orsino as an ugly harvester.

DAMN. Orsino actually beats out Meredith as far as crazy goes in the Pro-Templar ending.

Yeah, but I think MEREDITH is the one who reacted with horror about him killing his own people. And then being stupid enough to practically brag about it to Hawke.

Oh well. We all already know that the ending was stupid. Nothing we can do :P
And I still can't bring myself to side with the templars. Is there a video anywhere that shows him killing the mages?

I don't think we ever see it. We just walk into the room and there's all these dead mages everywhere. Orsino starts practically CACKLING. It's clear he's lost it, even worse than when he has Hawke on his side. I don't blame you for not being able to side with them. Doing it almost made me sick.

I've seen videos of this on youtube, I was just surprised we can't actually see him killing them (everyone was talking about it, so I assume you witness it). I thought the video was edited, lol.
What's the ritual Meredith's talking about? :P

Btw, do we know who's Orsino's VA? I can't find any information.

I think the ritual is his fusing the bodies of his mages into himself to become a harvester. The DA wiki claims he's voiced by Jim Ward.

I wished I hadn't looked. lol

EDIT 2

I take it back xD He's brilliant.

After seeing all the awesome fan artwork, I kinda wanted to make some contribution of my own...
But, I'm not much of an artist, so you're all stuck with this instead:

Sorry, couldn't resist

And my mage Hawke does make an appearance. She likes to be the centre of attention you see...

Squeeee!!! :D

I really like it. The sequences flash a little fast, but I guess it wouldn't be easy to do it differently with the amount of available video material.
Also, you really got this song stuck in my head! Mine and several other people's  it's perfect.
Have you heard this one?  It might not be your type of music, but I think the lyrics are really good.
I need to create a fan video category in the OP! ^_^

I'm proud of this little fandom, I really am.

"Have faith, Knight-Commander." *badass staff twirl*

Why, why couldn't I have saved Orsino? He was one of my favorites, and he and my Hawke got along so well. I'd like to think that during those three years between Act 2 and Act 3, they became friends through their political support of one another.

It's a question we're all asking ourselves... :(
And yes, I can easily imagine my mage femHawke developing fiendship with him (if not a terrible crush- I know I would! lol).
I need to boot the game up and re-read his letters, I don't remember much of what he wrote in them.

Ooooh, nice song choice! I could see a really epic video to that music :D

And yep, the flashing bothered me as well, but it was the only way I could add any sort of pace to it with so little clips available.
*Sigh* I need more Orsino, clearly thats the only solution to the problem ^_^
