How do i get the console on steam a lot of the fixes i've seen need you to run some console scripts and they suggest to make a shortcut to the exe file and add on -enabledeveloperconsole that doesn't work when downloaded from steam as it gives a different target rather than the game target. Any simple fix sorry if this has been asked before.

You have to edit the "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age ii\\data\\DragonAge2Launcher.xml" file. (make backup first)
Open in a text editor, go to line 169:
replace:
<true action="execute" file="${BINARIES_DIR}\\DragonAge2.exe" path="${BINARIES_DIR}" autoquit="true" />
with:
<true action="execute" file="${BINARIES_DIR}\\DragonAge2.exe" path="${BINARIES_DIR}" autoquit="true" arguments="-enabledeveloperconsole" />
(or just add the arguments part)

The default key binding on steam didn't work for me so I did the above but also had to modify the key binding file in the my documents folder to bind it to F6
