Discuss the best combinations for the following and why? :

Warrior  -Templar
               -Berserker
Mage     -Shapeshifter
               -Spiritual Healer
Rogue   -Assassin
               -Bard

On a side not i grew up playing as archers, what would the best archer combination be? I was thinking dalish elven warrior going on to templar or rogue going on to assassin but neither really fit.

Just to clarify. Best combo of specializations or best focus for specializations?

Basically which race makes the better... and why. Most seem obvious (dwarf berserker) but others like the rogues arn't so.

Obviously you can go a lot of different roads with a Archer. I would guess a Dalish Rogue who goes with Ranger and Duelist (this is duelist allows you to use any weapon, which seems to be the case. seems being the key word).

Since you could summon animals to separate yourself from your opponent if need be. While simultaneously using Pinpoint attacks and such.

Do arrows get backstab potential a la D&D rules? That would be the difference whether archery is better as a fighter or a rogue. I have always seen archers as low armor, stealthy, and quick footed anyway. So when and if I make an archer it will probably be a rogue anyway.

I think the dwarf will make the best templar as well with their already present resistances to magic.

All in all, I will have to play with the game before I make a judgement on who is better at what, and what combos are best.

I take it you don't like the Champion, Reaver, Arcane Warrior, Blood Mage, Ranger or Duelist.

Chances are the OP didn't know about them. The onsite Wiki doesn't list them so I was surprised when I first heard people talking about them.

If you want to see the other class specializations check out the link below, there are some spoliers on the site so read carefully.

Ha ha you did ok. No i didnt have a clue. So on the wiki where it says specializations include (Templar, berserker) is that only a couple that are actually available?... no wait i'll read the link...... well this destroys the purpose of my thread somewhat. Nice to see a better wiki for this thanks.

Archers do not get backstab, based on the attack scripts that Bioware posted on the Wiki. But all rogues do get increased critical hit chance when flanking, and rogues also get automatic criticals when attacking from stealth. In addition, cunning seems to add to armor penetration, and with the lethality talent you get to use cunning for bow damage (normally the part that comes from strength) and it also increases your crit chance. Finally, taking assassin further increases your crit chance and gives you at least one good talent (mark of death).

The big advantages that warriors get are the ability to wear heavy armor without fatigue penalties, ability to switch to sword and shield style if they need more defense, and of course more stamina for spamming archery talents.
